  • Did you pay exstra for the extended battery?

  • fuck you gay laptop bitch god also takes u forever to unbox it u asshole i lost interest and clicked out u suck

  • what would be better, this or a sony vaio z?

  • R the keys back lit, no one ever talks about that on this note book for some reason! & if not, its a damn shame all that money u would think back lit key would be included!!

  • @kaveack Nope they're not. It's mentioned in the full review (link is at the top of the video)

  • When i get enough money to buy one of these, I' trading my HP mini 110 netbook for this. It's freakin' amazing. I already LOVE HP's new design. THe whole curves and chicklet keyboard is amazing.

    Good unboxing :D

  • very bla bla bla and a little information..

  • did you get this free for doing review

  • i heard the display is not hd but they bringing new one out that is and full specs is this true

  • 5:30 keeeeeeyboaarrrrddd

  • The only thing thats keeping me from buying the Envy is the fact that it doesn't have a backlit keyboard. If i was to pay two grand for a laptop, i would expect a backlit keyboard at least. I guess I have to wait until they have the option for backlit keyboard

  • @mars231 I totally agree with you

  • Well there isn't a recovery disc because Hp laptops/desktops already have a recovery partition that takes care of that and it also gives you the option to burn a set for yourself as well. That's why I like Hp computers, because if you tend to lose those recovery discs, you would have that recovery partition built into your laptop.

  • Good point. Consumers will like it. The notebook comes with a recovery CD maker as well. The only bad thing is that you lose hard drive space.

  • @mars231 how bout if the problem is a broken partition or a total hard drive failure? :P

  • what should i buy a macbook pro or the envy ? :S

  • Depends if you prefer using Mac OS X or Windows, because honestly the Envy is more powerful than a Macbook Pro specs wise, yet some people (like me) prefer Mac OS X more than Windows.

  • @65bits make that same statement in about a week and you'd be wrong :)

  • Haha, I'm personally waiting for new Macbook Pros to come out too. I hope the Envy will make Apple rethink the price they charge for their Macbook Pros. Hope it's like what you said: in about a week.

  • The Envy will still be more powerful. I doubt that even the 17-inch MacBook Pro will use a quad-core Core i7, and the Nvidia graphics card used will almost certainly be weaker. It also has a higher resolution screen than the 15-inch MBP.

Also, there's a conflict going on concerning the fact that Nvidia can't make chipsets for the Core i-series. If a new MBP were made now, it would have weaker graphics. There won't be new ones until the summer most likely.

  • no, the new 6,1 macbook pros will house the Arrandale duo core i7 620 at 2.66 Ghz before OC

Performance wise the beats the Clarcksfield 720 qm the envy has. Unless you go to the 820 for another $400. Look it up on any benchmark site, that is a fact not opinion.

Second, all the new iMac's are using ATI cards, and the MBP will follow, they have used ATI before. 5xxx series.

That and the 7 hour battery with out the extra slice, built in optical drive and Unix os = win over the envy.

  • The current Envy 15 model uses Arrendale dual-core CPUs and an ATI Mobility Radeon 5830. Besides that, an MBP with the 620M would cost at least $2,300.

I was talking about power, not battery life. I'm not sure what the new Envy's battery life is,

The optical drive, however, makes it thicker and heavier than the Envy, and optical drives aren't really that important anymore.

For people who prefer Unix, that is. And besides that, it's still more expensive.

  • your wrong bro, it uses a Clarksfield i7, quad core 720 and 820 qm. Thats why there are so many complaints out of the laptop being uncomfortably hot.

the envy has a 2 hour battery life, macbook pro has 7.

optical drive is necessary for OS installs, burning mp3 dvd, movies, etc. I use mine all the time.

the MBP is literally half a pound heavier than the envy, its negligible.

costs $350 more to beat the 620, or about what your guessing the new MBP will cost.

MBP is the envy just better.

  • Nope. Go to the HP website. The new one uses Arrendale Core i5 CPUs with the option for Clarkdale i7s. (The difference between the 540M and 620M is negligible for most people. Also, the 620M will be an option for the Envy down the road.)

That's with the quad-core i7s. It should be more with the i5s.

Which is why there's an external drive.

    Get your facts straight.

  • im not talking about Arrendale i5's, im talking about Arrendale i7's completely different animal. Hyper threading along with a larger L3 cache mean they are not similar. Only Clarkfield i7's are offered in the envy now. Down the road, hey cool, down the road im going to be a millionaire too.

Here are the facts, to match what the MBP will have the Envy will cost just as much, right now you need the 820 qm i7 to beat the 620 the MBP will have.

MBP has optical, runs cooler, and has a better bat

  • All Arrendale CPUs have HT. Again, get your facts straight. And no, you won't be a millionaire.

The Envy 15 with the 820QM only costs $2,275. I'll be shocked if the MBP has the 540M for less than that, let alone the 620M. At best, an MBP with a 620M will cost $2,400.

I don't mind that the drive is external. It runs cooler than the quad-core version, but not much cooler than the dual-core. Can you prove that the battery is better in a fair comparison? I think not. Don't be a fanboy.

  • If you look at the trend of Apple products, they never change their prices on their computers, they just refresh the hardware. All the prices will sit, just what you get for the price will differ.

The millionaire statement was a jest.

$2,275 is quite a chuck of change, guarantee the MBP will be around there or near better.

What on earth are you talking about, MBP = 7 hour battery Envy = 2, simple fact. (or buy the 125 dollar "slice" and add thickness+weight)

I own a PC, im not a "fanboy"

  • If the prices don't change, based on the current prices, the MBP will cost $2,600 with the 620M since that's how much the current most powerful C2D version is.

But it's still less than the current MBP with a 2.8GHz C2D. :/

It's two hours for the quad core version. -_- HP doesn't say what the battery life is with an i5. Granted, would guess it only gives 3-5 hours max, so you win there.

So what if you own a PC? You have that because you need it.

  • right now im at work so im sitting on a C2D 2.8 MBP, spendy yes, especially for what else is out now.

My next purchase will be a MBP when they come out with i7. Im taking advise from the chairman of the computer science department at the university i will be attending. He says everything is moving to unix / linux, im going to take his advise and get a mac.

  • Um... Wouldn't buying a PC and getting an open source version of Linux make more sense then? Besides that, that movement is very slow. You're planning at least 20 years ahead.

  • but i like using Osx better, might as well use a linux type distro as my primary OS.

Ubuntu can't be used as a primary yet, even as far as its come.

computer science is programming anyways, and objective C, java etc all run in osx, plus the additional ones that don't run in windows like cocoa.

Plus a MBP is the most portable laptop i could get (besides a netbook) that has some power to it. Envy 15 is the closest thing a PC has, i ordered mine, and cancelled 3 days later.

  • Okay, then. Personally, I wouldn't get it due to the fact that I would want to play games without being forced to torrent Windows, and it's price/performance ratio is terrible.

... And I'm poor. :S College is going to kill me.

  • actually you can play many games natively in Osx, i just got done playing some css.

crossover games lets you run most windows games in leopard, at 99% speed of native (because it basically is native)

right now the ratio is terrible thats why im waiting for i7.

    and im poor too ;/

  • Meh. OS X is cool and all, but I don't know. I've been looking into it, but honestly it just doesn't seem like an OS I'd use for gaming and the like. I don't know... Maybe if I were to get used to it. It's just kinda hard when considering that I could get a powerful Windows laptop and a netbook for the price of a good MBP.

  • when i started working where i am 6 or so months ago, i hated Apple with a passion. Thought mac was overpriced and underpowered.

The only work laptop they would provide me (still at work right now sitting on it) was this 2.8 duo 9600m gt 4 GB DDr3 MBP 15 inch.

it took me a hardcore fuck you apple guy, into a i really want one. I have been gaming for years, and had PC's.

I play Css, Hl2, Gears of war PC, Dead Space, Bioshock etc, but OSx is just so nice once your used to it.

  • We'll see.

Anyway... This vid was not the best place for our debate. :P You can friend me if you want.

  • @tlfs123 depends what you want, envy is more bang for your buck by miles, itll play games better and encode stuff faster, get a mac pro if you prefer the mac OS (thats the only advantage i can think of besides asthetics, since thats personal preference)

but apple should be announcing new computers soon so id wait

  • no 65bits opening music ?

  • Yea, usually we upload unboxing videos straight from the camera, so unboxing videos don't have opening music.. Also, we don't have an unboxing video intro vid... :(
