  • Hello from Aichi, Japan. When you apply job, you can type everything in English, and write just a few recent work history if you are foreigner. But, if you are Japanese, you must write down all of your work history and it must be written by mannualy. This is not Joke. If you apply 100 companies, you have to wite same resume 100 times and each different cover letter. You can't use white out even if you miswrote. You have to write new one from scratch. It is really nightmare for Japanese.

  • @manekineko615 Wow, kinda makes me feel lucky to be a foreigner who will eventually come to japan xD

  • To be fair. I absolutely deplore the states lately. How you are actually almost 9/10 times flatly told to "go online" to apply for a job. They won't even take a resume or a paper application. Even when the boss is whom you are talking to. It is insane.

Stuff like that I think is acceptable for paper.

  • well its like greece i guess ,no problem then :)

  • Bureaucracy sounds like the first boss you'll encounter. Better grind some Japanese skills and level up your exp before going there in the first place.

  • Wow. Good for me that I live in Germany, so I'm used to bureaucracy and it won't be a problem for me if I move to Japan one day.

  • Ever see a movie called "Brazil"? Terry Gilliam of Monty Python made it. Sounds like it bears an uncanny resemblance to Japan (aside from the whole Dystopian aspect of it), lol.

  • @CarbonFrosty

Exactly what I thought about when I saw the title of this video. And sorry for thumbing down your comment, I missed the 'reply' button D:

  • @Ruvigy Haha, nah it's fine. I don't even see an indicator saying that it has been thumbed down. Either way, it doesn't matter.

Anyway, that's awesome! It's somewhat of an obscure film, so I'm very glad someone else saw it, let alone notice the resemblance it bears (or what I think it bears) to Japan. Cult cinema at its absolute finest! One of my favorite films, that's for sure. I still find it funny that Robert DeNiro played the renegade plumber xD Satirically bashing bureaucracy since 1985!

  • Go to Poland and you will know what nightmare Bureaucracy means....

  • That explains why I had to fill up a form even for just a night's worth of layover in Japan when I was travelling back to Chicago a couple of years ago. :)

  • someone told me it goes back to the samurai days. everyone had to be in total attire or respect to there class. think about it there was a ceremony to moment suicide properly. so thay mentality is still in many people

  • Japan is the reason we don't have as many trees.

  • I'd say most asian countries are the same and that is main reason why asia is way backward than some western countries. But from EU I'd say France is worst beuracratic shit hole in the world! I met 15 internationals in france and they were all same in state of shock on french beuracracy.

  • Indian(from India) bureaucrats are the worst! They are disorganized, temperamental and just plain unprofessional...they even shout at you for no freakin reason. Since most government jobs are permanent, they don't worry about getting fired so they have no problem offending people left and right. Even though they speak English, me thinks Japanese bureaucrats are way better.

  • Interesting video. But. Minor technical complaint. The camera is adjusting to the white wall behind you making your face too dark to see.

  • @ierig that's because he's black...or IS HE?? i don't know...on my screen it shows that he's a black austrailian.

  • This is a very important video, this along with the one about the hanko is very informative for people that want to live in Japan. Hope the next one is soon.

  • @uglyengineer

Next one is coming today :-)

  • You haven't been in Germany :D

  • If you think japans bureaucracy is a nightmare

You should watch Brazil some time

  • @animenexus6 No kidding... Cartorio's are chaotic... But by some miracle they work! Getting citizenship can be a real pain in the side if you're a forigner, unless you are married to a full citizen. Japan must be really hard to move in if nobody informs you... :/

  • I imagine Kurosawa's film Ikiru was more on target than the casual viewer may have thought.

  • very interesting. being in another country and suddenly realizing how difficult the language barrier can be is rather shocking 1st time. while ive not had experience in japan, i have in china. if a person doesnt speak the langauge... its tough! VERY tough. oh and not just knowing "hello, thank you, good bye, etc" that wont get you to far when it comes to handling serious matters!

  • Heh... sounds just like Germany.. it's the same crap here, too...

  • I get the feeling this video was made just after filling in one of these forms, judging by your tone. :D

    Am I right?

  • Scary O.o and complicated... thanx for taking the time and sharing this info with us!!

  • I really know how terrible bureaucracy in Japan, but now I see exactly the same nightmare here in Los Angeles, and I can't criticize it because that's how "bureaucracy" everywhere is.

  • "English is a common language in the world" is not an excuse here to justify your opinion (or your selfishness).

When you live in another country, you are an alien.

You have to respect every single aspect (Culture) of the country where you visit or live, but if you say you can't, just turn round and go home.

  • So, if you come live in Japan, you MUST get used to Japanese and Japanese bureaucracy because they speak and write Japanese,

    Learn Japanese before you come.

If you do not even know they only speak and write Japanese and do not speak English or other language, you can't blame them but YOURSELF who can not speak and write Japanese.

  • I've seen how terrible the bureaucracy of L.A. is, but I can't blame it because that's how it is.

The only solution to deal with it is I have to get used to it.

I live in a foreign country and have to respect every the cultural differences between here and my country.

  • Nightmare of bureaucracy is EVERYWHERE.

I've lived in Los Angeles for about 6 years and I'm still amazed how horrible bureaucracy here is.

However, I can't criticize it for some reasons following.

  • Hello again :)

I was wondering if you had a video about crime in Japan - how to keep yourself safe and report a crime or safety concern. I live in the murder capitol of my country, so safety is important to me. Although I am aware Japan is one of the safest places in the world, that can be pretty misleading sometimes.

    Thanks!

  • @melnoad

    No need.

Unless people are aggressive or go looking for trouble in Japan, it is extremely unlikely that they will experience any crime.

  • @TheJapanChannelDcom

    Thanks :)

  • @TheJapanChannelDcom I agree. I am a stupid white boy and I have had no trouble in the streets in Japan.

  • Surprising, I would have thought Japan to be a country that has greatly moved away from manual paperwork because of their high level of technology. Is there a reason for a lack of database infrastructure and the excessive use of paperwork in Japan?

  • @niten

I might make a video on that...

it is because change happens slowly..

nobody wants to "rock the boat" by changing anything or pointing out what needs changing!

  • @TheJapanChannelDcom Such a shame, if people there were a tad more forward about things, they could have loads of potential. I mean the Japanese seem so creative and such, it's a shame that that creativity can't be used to make life even easier over there.

  • @TheJapanChannelDcom Perhaps this part of the reason why the Japanese economy hasn't been performing that well for so long. They need to get rid of a bunch of red tape and modernize things so stuff can get done quicker and easier.

  • Bureaucracy is an industry in itself in some country's. They are probably all related to politicians like here in the U.S. More paperwork more jobs for relatives.

  • Bureaucrats. Now theirs one thing people, regardless of race, can agree upon we need less of.

  • Interesting. I think that the best way to get through a lot of the bureaucracy is just to get all that paper work ready and all set long before coming into the country. Good luck in Japan.

  • sounds like paper hell

  • that's ironic, you would think all the paperwork would have become digitalized by now...not that that would make anything easier. well, thanx in advance for planning to guide us through the hell of bureaucracy.

  • Well, you can't be in Japan for a long period of time without a company anyway... :o

  • I'm a grade 37 bureaucrat from Jamaica.

  • You are out of bananas.

  • What comes to mind is Akira Kurosawa's movie "Ikiru."

  • 日本のマンガで「コンピューターを導入したら、紙の書類が減る。と言っていたのは誰だ!・・・」というのがちょっと昔、有りました。^^;

With a Japanese comic in old day that "Who's said If introduced a computer, documents of paper is decrease!".

  • you would think a place as crowded as japan would want to save room by doing things electronically

  • Cool. I´m looking forward for the other videos. Allthoug we had no problem in city hall were we went to get alien registrationcards. But maybe we were lucky :D

  • @Nasaroth

Did they happen to mention the compulsory health insurance?

  • @TheJapanChannelDcom Speaking of health insurace, would blue cross work over there? If you dont know what it is its like...portable canadian health insurance lol

  • @BlackValleyRequiem

You would need to ask them.

  • @TheJapanChannelDcom Ok. If i go to japan for longer than a visit, it would be with the JET program once i get my degree, so im sure they will help take care of me lol. Thanks so much for thesevideos, love em.

  • @BlackValleyRequiem It should. We had it when we lived there.

  • @BlackValleyRequiem I dont get the need of portable canadian health insurance unless your going to america or maybe africa.

Japan, like most industrialised nations, has universal healthcare and as far as I know, they cover foriegners also.

If its something so bad you need a hospital, even america, so I would assume japan, handle serious emergency cases at least, and would fly you back for more care on canadas dime.

  • @TheJapanChannelDcom

Not sure, I am here only with tourist visa at the moment so I just went with my friends to see where it was. But I know they got some insurance, what kind, I cant say.

  • wow i hate paper work!!!!

great videos though!!! this keeps me very interested! i really want to visit Japan.

    keep it up!!!

    love peace and chicken grease!!!

  • Sounds pretty bad. x_X

  • dang !! i hate paperworks >=O !!!
