The Hot Dog was first introduced to Mexico in the 1943 by a couple of American entrepreneurs who purchased a concession stand at the Plaza Mexico City bull ring. The entrepreneurs figured Hot Dogs were such a hit with baseball fans in America, they should be just as popular with bullfight fans in Mexico.
It is believed the bacon wrapped Hot Dog with all the trimmings began to appear in 1956.
@dieselmac LOL! Funny you mentioned that. Tonight I'm cooking up Chicago style Polish sausage sandwiches for dinner and I've decided to shoot a video. I'm putting my own twist on it, so I'm sure I'll upset some hardcore Chicago sausage fans.
Sometimes along with the onion, bacon, mayo, mustard and ketchup they even add beans and cheese to the mexican hotdog. Its really good! Nice video:) Where did you buy that unique grill?
If that dog is "Mexican"...(and it looks yummy btw), then it was stolen. LOL. I was making that dog here in upstate NY 40 years ago as a kid. On the other hand, if you had popped that dog in a bolillo, and covered it with pico de gallo, avocado sauce, grated cheese, and a dab of sour cream...
I know you already answered my question on a previous video but now I'm convinced you are a secret Mexican. You do a great job on dishes I'm suppose to know.
You need to add a diced tomato, thin slices of canned jalapeno pepper, and thin slices of avocado to make this an official Mexican Dog. I can't wait to have one again!! darn it why did I even search this!!! *getting the shakes for one*
Greg... I don't a lot of hot dogs but that looks awesome. I love that flat top section on the grill, did that come with it or is it an insert?! I often use one of my cast iron griddles on my grill for the same purpose. I bet some fresh ingredients on top like tomatoes, avocado or cilantro OR a cilantro-mayo would be nice on there too! :) Great, now I want one and it is midnight. :)
@funktifiedfood Thanks for watching. Yeah, those flat tops are inserts for my Craycort grate. Fresh ingredients are really good on these. This wasn't really a planned out video. I was literally craving these things, so I just went with what I had on hand. Decided to shoot some video while I was at it.
@sd4547 I can understand that... I always seem to run out of fresh ingredients when I need them for one more thing and don't have time to go to the store. haha.
I can almost smell them from here. Yuh just gotta have em. I have some Wimmers skin on in the freezer, will grill them tomorrow if it's over 40d. Thanks for lunch tip.
I am a major hot dog fan, this is basically a version of Arizona's "Sonoran hot dog". Often they are topped with cheese, chopped tomatoes, salsa and pinto beans along with the mayo, mustard and ketchup. Where did you find Nathan's hot dogs like that, Costco? I've never seen them, the closest thing I can find are Boar's Head. I know what I'm making this week for dinner.
@tdjtx "Nathan's Original with Natural Sheep Skin Casing". We bought them at our local grocery store, Albertson's. I know Costco has the Nathan's, but I'm not sure if they're the skinless type. I usually put chopped tomato and diced avocado on mine. This was literally a "I gotta' have em" thing. Lucklie I had a pack of dogs in the freezer from the last time I had this craving.
@sd4547 Yea, we get Nathan's here but not the natural casing, I'll put in a request at HEB for them. We used to have Albertson's here but they all closed, couldn't compete with HEB. I'm not a big fan of Chicago style dogs, Sonic has them now, not a big fan of pickle relish and the sport peppers have a really tough skin. I like the Texas Hot Wieners we used to get in NY, had to come up with my own recipe since you can't get them in Texas.
They look great I'm a big fan of the Nathans as well I think New York only does mustard and Chicago does everything I might be wrong iv never been lol Man I sure get excited every time I see that iron grill
@rootboyslim I'll have to look for those brands. I love Boars Head meat, but I don't know if I've ever seen their dogs. Thanks for the info! I'm always looking for better dogs.
