ridwan, that's a good question...the answer is they came to NYC from all parts of the island but they all had 1 thing in common, they were poor, mostly uneducated and almost exclusively from "el campo". Not too many left comfortable professional jobs, mansions in Hato Rey or dropped out of medical school at Harvard. However, most didn't stay in the ghettos, they left and succeeded.
