i now realize that sad songs make you want to find what you are looking for, and make you want them more. but imagine a song that makes you go and find that happiness. you are a great artist, you should make a few happy songs, songs that acually cheer you up instead of make you want to be even more sad. like for instance, look up "dont worry be happy" song. it makes me feel like everything will be fine one way or another, try it sometime :j

Use your scales, you should know the fretboard if you call yourself a guitar player. Progression is part of theory.

My opinion to you is dont worry about the progressions, just sit down for a good couple of ideas and work on stuff, if u dont like some of it, scrap it and go back to it later, tackle the whole song briefly first then add lyrics. If you think this girl is everything, sing and play from the heart. Good or bad it does not matter, u made an effort and she will see that.
