@gilkesisking don't be silly. Cinema lives from great directors like Cameron. If there wasn't Cameron, there wouldn't be directors like David Fincher. And also, before Cameron, Spielberg relied on worse computer animation in The Last Crusade.

@spanishprisoner Don't you be silly, Cameron DID make enjoyable movies but he will never be considered a GREAT Director.. for greatness you need to look at Ozu, Kurosawa, Truffaut, Kubrick, Welles, Renoir, Hithcock etc compared to these he is a hack... nothing wrong with effects, but they have replaced film making. T2 made CGI popular, there is nothing special in special effects anymore..... and it still looks crap... check out the "redlettermedia" Starwars reviews on youtube.

@SandBarAndYou Yeah you make a fair point T2 and Jurassic park were on first release gobsmaking. Its an intresting situation. Both these films were, within context, still grounded in a reality, real sets and a mixture pratical effects what they do have is believable physics, something modern films do not. You need that believability of real stunts to ground whats going on... just watch Mad Max 2.. and CGI will never be as believable as pratical, the best effects are the ones you dont see.

@leisurelydinner I've not seen the film so couldn't say, but yes CGI is best used when you can't see it. Compositing, "wire removal" Camera moves ( based on reality ) and so on Digitally is a fantastic film making tool, you don't see it. Digital Characters ( there are rare exceptions ), explosions, " amazing vehicles " and so on looks fake. The more elaborate the visual the faker they become and you loose the emotional attachment. The impossible can never replace realitly.

Terminator 1 had a feeling of hopelessness, but this one is like a "the gloves are coming off, time to kick ass!" type of gesture. Possibly one of the few sequels that topped the first film.

Don't get me wrong, both films are awesome in their own right.

As much as I love this movie, this trailer robbed you of a significant chunk of the enjoyment. Try to imagine watching the movie for the first time and NOT knowing that there were two terminators, T-800 was reprogrammed, and the other one is made of liquid metal. Remember how rare CG was back then too. This trailer alone makes it a point to spoil all of the surprises.

Watch the one scene where John's adopted mom, Janelle is trying to talk to his adopted father, Todd. It's when the actress Jenette Golstein (a James Cameron regular) walks from the kitchen to the living room, saying, "I've had it with that goddamn kid. He won't even answer me anymore." That one, simple shot that you would never think twice is actually, technically perfect in picture and sound.

Yes Sarah and John destroy the chip and the previous arm of the terminator but where did the other arm go? Was it picked up on the conveyor belt by scientists which led to the events depicted in T3 (which sucked btw)

For anyone watching T2 for the first time, The t-1000 being liquid metal and bad terminator was supposed to be the plot twist. Up until the beginning of the film, we are led to believe Arnie is still the bad Terminator.
