  • Really great playing mate,top-shelf tutorial.I'm doing a Jump remix in the house genre and was thinking about adding some of the solo. It's amazing some of the tonality Eddie squeezes in there!I've heard it 2000 times, but it's not until you show us whats going on in slo mo that wild sound is really intricate.Great stuff, cheers mate

  • the beginning for me is just....impossible!! FUCKING IMPOSSIBLE!! i don't even know if this is a fingerpicking solo or i don't know fuck it

  • Couldn't be more accurate than this. Many thanks!

  • amazing

  • Nice D.A...thanks!

  • Thanks a lot, this helped a lot.

  • very amazing tutorial man....... fantastic skillz

  • great vid....... how do you get your tone?

  • Very well explained, do you have other songs done the same way ?

  • harmonics , i get. but pinched??? Anyway, thanks a lot tj

  • how do you create the high pitched sound in :52 and :53????

  • @dokeesetu It's a pinched harmonic I think...

  • Hey , could you pass me the tabs for the song, because I can't really get through part 4

    Thanks man, nice job

  • fantastic - thanks for sharing, man

  • This is great! Thanks so much man! I guess I am being a pig to ask if you have tabs as well?? Only because this is the best lesson I've seen. Even a hack like me can use enough to 'fake it' thanks to this! ;)

  • hey...best instructional ive seen yet....im no where near as good yet but i know how to play the solo but reaaaaly slowly....the timing for me is a lil tricky but that will come but its just part 5 with the tapping....do u use ur palm to stop the other strings resonating so much when ur tapping? or is it just careful playing?

  • @SHTIFF It's a bit of both, practice then practice again my friend, it will come in time

  • Thanks! Great stuff!

But will I ever get that little sweep up to speed? I wonder...

  • Part one is impossible.

  • this is my own version of jump by eddie van halen this is the keyword on you tube "leeshadbest" thanx

  • Very good, thanks a lot for this post. Beautiful guitar tune as well. What is your gear?

for mee the distortion and the delay effects are perfect for the VH sound, alog with the tune.

  • yes finally i did part 1! XD

  • @iosonodade hahahahaha xD xD xD xD

  • You legend! I have to learn this for an audition in a couple of weeks. Van Halen is such a beast , I would never have been able to pick the notes out from listening to it.

  • Awesome demo and lesson Darren. Easy to follow. I like it heaps.

  • I love your format: full solo and break down into slowed down phrases.

The cherry on the cake is the little pop up [Sweep!!].

Very nice thank you so much :)

  • Very interesting video!

Also, it was good to see this particular solo broken down into separate parts,

since it's a very unusual one. Well, I think so anyway.

    Thanks.

  • Best yet. Thanks

  • Thanks. Very helpful.

  • except for the transition from part7 to 8 its almost perfect - EVH plays part7 with the sweep in a lower position, which allows him to slide up into the run in part8 - you can hear that on the record, and it adds that 'tasty' sound to the solo, and prevents it from sounding like just a 'collection' of different licks. Ive seen him play this at least 10 times (used to be a big van halen fan in the 70/80's)

  • you are one of the best teacher on youtube... good job Daren

  • Thanks dude.

  • Excellent playing, very clear tutorial. Thank you very much :)

    5/5

  • very impressive and helped me a lot... hey do you also have bad medicine solo? thanks man.. you are the best..

  • Some tabs would be nice...

  • Absolutely brilliant mate. This is how it should be done.

Your understanding of solos seems to be a gift and a pleasure for us budding guitarists.

Thank you for your time and will find you first to learn other solos.

  • you are master

  • nice... this is just what I needed. Thanks for posting!

  • Outstanding performance... And thanks for this great tutorial, i actually learned this solo my watching you play.. thankyou so much for your time and lesson...

And plz keep rocking Sir :)

  • thanks man

  • wow....that's simple and great lesson. thanks bro

  • best educational one, tnx

  • When played at that speed, if you add a basic blues rhythm to the first 4 parts, you got yourself a nice blues solo. :)

  • The best of step by step this solo, tks u.

  • hey thanks dude. this def helped :)

  • Holy SHIT! You're a ninja!

  • Haha damn look at that pinky go! great job

  • Great vid, has helped a lot but is still a bit fast

  • Great lesson.

  • umm this is such a dumb question ,but could you plz make a tutorial where do you explain how to do "squelies" ,awwsome tutorial (: thx man :3

  • how do you mean? explain a bit more.

  • IT seems Gm dorian

  • very precise and instructions are segregated for better understanding. Thanks dude. This is what ive been looking for,

  • very helpful! thank you

  • thankyou helped me understand better

  • without the tab CAN I UNDERSTEIN WICH NOTES U PLAY??-.-

  • How is her making all the harmonics??? I still don't get it. I am trying really hard to improve my picking skill!!

  • It's called a pinch (or artificial) harmonic.

There are some videos on youtube on how to get that, but it does take a little bit of practice.

  • great solo how do u get that sound ? what effects are u using

  • how do you get that tone? + great lesson i subscribed

  • Man gotta love your videos. They really help me up learning to play those solos like they should be played. Keep 'em coming!

  • Thanks man really helped me out :)

  • this video is Okay

  • no, your guitar holding skill is ok.....actually play your songs, dont hold a guitar with a track in the background playing.......and who the hell are you to insult a dude who gives free net lessons.....

  • directed at DT and GG9

  • Darren you are the man! Tx!

  • Great stuff, Darren. It gives us beginners a real insight. Why don't you form your own band?

  • Great playing, BUT it would B nice if U can Explain which notes U play, for beginers twould be easier

ex. Tapping notes it´s difficult to find out alone, thanks

  • Some of you can't stand the fact that

someone else could be as talented as you...All of the guys on these pages took

time to learn these rif's and share them

for free...Put your fret-board where your

    mouth is....T Boyd TrebleHook

  • My band wants to do this,,thanks for givin a head start.....T

  • LOL, DTandGG9 is a guy who likes Jonas Bros. and has a pink room. I can't stop laughing given the fact he had something bad to say about this author's vid.

Anyways, nice soloing. I especially like your Rhoads vids.

  • Bitch

  • Fnx for liking our solos. By the way, its our sisters room so if you watch The wild adventures of DT and coco you will see.

  • Comment removed

  • i checked you out lol. learn some respect little man. or guitar, yoiur choice as you seem to lack in both.

  • @darrenarmitage2306 haha nice. that'll shut him up. great playing and thanks for doing this..i find it more helpfull then anything because it's accurate, takes more effort then just reading tabs (which are never right) and just a great way to learn.

  • nice one, took me ages going over this one to have confidence playing live.

  • lol i can play live with confidence naturally don't know why

  • sorry, i should have said being confident to articulate it perfectly without any errors. rather than run through it like a 16 year old getting his first shag and rushing it.
