Don't bother dual booting or wiping out your Windows partitions just yet! I am a Free Software advocate and recommend to any new GNU/Linux user that they boot the CD Live by restarting the computer and choosing to boot from CD or installing Ubuntu in Windows using WUBI. Just pop in the disc while in Windows and you can install Ubuntu much like any other program (even uninstall it). This will allow you to 'dual boot' and try out Ubuntu as it would run in a traditional install or dual boot.
Yes. If you have an additional partition available, and your Windows install is working, you can install Ubuntu on the empty partition. Ubuntu will setup grub, the dual-boot manager, and control the boot process. HOWEVER, you will be true dual-booting, and if you ever decide to get rid of the Ubuntu, you will have to format and start again, with Windows and everything. The SAFEST way is with WUBI. You cannot remove grub easily after the fact.
i have Paragon Partition Manager the payed version and i have 3 partitions now, windows XP
windows 7 and a empty.
i clicked on create partition and made it Z:/
local disc.
so i can just burn the .iso with nero as image to a cd and boot from it, and i can select, just like in windows setup, on what partition i want to instal linux.
I don't know enough about Partition Manager... Whether it uses it's own boot manager or otherwise, I can't say. I do know that you can install XP and WIN7 on the same partition, and there will be a menu created by 7 (it has to be in that order - XP, then 7). Once you have done that, then SERIOUSLY... wubi is still the fastest, safest option. Install it through WIN7, if I had to guess. I've never done all three before.

If you don't like it, uninstall from within Windows, as an application, reclaim your space, with no dangerous partitioning or anything. This guy makes things WAY WAY WAY harder than they have to be.

i did that all, and after it finished and i rebooted my comp, my screen, i took the top option and my screen whent black. what option do i take? if i took the right one, what do i do?

Pls im getting a brand spanking new Quad core beast on monday but i accidently orderd vista on it! i have 2 hard drives that im gonna put in (one full and the one that comes with the computer half full) is there a way i can install this vista on 1 hard drive and linux on the other without whiping the data?! pls help thankyou!
How should I connect to internet my pc through my nokia 5300 mobile phone via data cable with nokia pc suit software in Ubuntu os? Which site should I get the proper software for Ubuntu os?
I don't know if these are related, but I have vista, and when I went to download the ISO recorder I had to choose between 32 bit and 64 bit, which do I choose?
Omg Why did you not think of editing the video, meaning you could have skipped the whole download part and continued on explaining in this same video =). Just a Hint man...
i've been downloading ubuntu for about 3 hours now and still i've got 13%!!!i've got dsl,i check the speed test it says i have 1.2mbps.the video says he got it in 30 minutes.how fast is his connection?
t depends on the mirrors I think. I went thorugh 3 of them. University of utah said 12 hours before download is compleate. It took 30 minutes to get 1%. I closed it and went through another mirror and it took about and 11 hour and 30 min to get it completed
you took 11 hours and a half?mine took 9 hours to get it completed and i was so frustrated by the time i was downloading it.but then still,i got it completed,we are so patient showmetheinuyasha...and i swear,i'll never download anything like that anymore, since i already got an ubuntu.
The best thing to do is try to find a better mirror. I found one for the I386 ISO and it only took 1 and a 1/2 hours. But yeah I cn be patient with anything/ I am trying freeBSD and its so frigging complicated
I installed MagicISO, cracked it, and burnt the ISO to the CD. It was easy breexy from there on! I just checked, and my HDD doesn't need to be defragged. I'll be booting up the LiveCD and getting used to my new OS soon. :)
i do not know much about this kind of stuff but i heard that ubuntu will make my computer run faster rather this windows xp so for that im willing to make the change. i just wanted to know if all my programs and games will run on ubuntu?
I'm no expert on ubuntu but I do know that from my experience you have to like troubleshooting alot to use ubuntu. It still has a long way to go before it will be useful to the average person. Learn to use a command line interface too...you'll need it.
Dont need to reset the BIOS, all non mac computer use the F8 command on startup, then just pick the drive that has the linux disk in it. Just hit F8 as the computer posts.

Cd-R is fine the only diffrence is that in the future it can be written over

Linux also has an application called Wine, which lets you run Windows games on Linux. They also run faster than they do on Windows.

Erm, no, incredible over simplification.
For a large amount of apps and games, it's pretty buggy, especially considering the scale of the job involved (reproducing a fair chunk of XP by reverse engineering). For some? yes. For many? Pretty buggy to unusable.
