  • i remember watching these early/mid 90s videos with my friends thinking. one day we will be that good and we can be pro. i started skating hard core fourteen years ago. by that i mean i skated everywhere and my board never left my side. so even a few years before that i was just learning. after me and my friends got this good we made a video, around 2004 we bought a new skate video and realized we would never become pro. after we realized we would never become pro skateboarding only got more fun

  • His best best part in my opinion

  • ...back in the days, he already was my favorite..watched the whole part in slow-motion..!!!!

  • Best mongo pusher alive!

  • i like how this is still considered amazing even by today's standards

  • now thats some real street skating!

  • Koston is the fuckin man, always has and always will be my favorite skateboarder. Someone could bang out these same tricks and put a part out tomorrow, it would be legit to today's standards. Koston will always be ahead of the times.

  • That damn good 15 years ago. Koston is one of a kind

  • @makebank93: yea i friggin love hotsteeze

  • this part will still be perfect in 20 years

  • anyone else recognize the hubba hideout

  • I mongo switch tricks too :D

  • this music is fucking boss, no one is making skate boarding videos properly anymore, they are all lacking jazz

  • @watersport32: go to hotsteeze. com -> it lists like a tone of wake and skate tricks

  • that first line was perfect

  • i have this video

  • i find myself watching this and Guy's part more than most parts that come out nowadays, and I didnt start skating until 10 years after this came out.

  • @KickScootersNCompany regular is switch hes goofy

  • this part was so amazing

  • 2:54 amazing stuff there man

  • 2:54 was the best switch tre in the world

  • @noahinthewhale like back when goldfish was out eric was hitting ledges and some stairs, but it was mainly flatground obstacles. but within 3 years time part of his skating was turned into rails and big sets of stairs. now that's normal for every skater out there.

  • 80's porn music...

  • idk why everybody say tht mongo pushers suck?

i think eric just proved tht wrong :D

  • @jamesmichaeltaylor1 He's skating mongo in switch stance you imbecile

  • Mongo <3

  • @PotatoPlop Only in switch, dumbass.

  • @TomHasBC umad?

  • wahts the song ?

  • 3 years later his whole style of skating changed.

  • Watching this clip or any clip from this era gives me flashbacks of when I skated during this time and I get this strange feeling of excitement....I try to go out and recapture that feeling when I skate now but I just can't. I guess it will only live in my memories.

  • @Dystopia1980 I am in the same boat you are! Don't think about the tricks and stuff that you can't do anymore. Just think about relearning skateboarding like you did back in the day. I go out late at night (even if I have college the next mourning) and just cruise around town ollieing up and down the sidewalk. Try to get the old skate crew to join you. :)

  • The best to ever do it...

  • 15 years later and he's still rippen

  • 0:20 look at that... mongo pushing! and he still makes it look sick as hell!

  • The Tiger Woods of skateboarding.

  • this is a masterpiece for 1996. koston is the man! this video part is still bangin'

  • @yellowfishmann Word up homie

  • shit

  • I just noticed that he did not skate one stair set in this and it was still amazing.

  • @itskane79 actually he did at the begining so....yea

  • that was good assness

  • Why do old school videos have so much vig?

  • to think i was 1 when he was skating like this , and hes getting better yet GO KOSTON !!!!

  • Ronnie Creager mastered the art of switch!!! Not Koston.

  • Still one of Kostons best parts EVER! --I would skate those steps at the Vancouver Art Gallery and it would blow my mind to think Koston doing those switch tricks like they were nothing!

  • That line at 0:34 is just the essence of Koston. Effortless brilliance.

  • Love the jazz and the skating.

  • he won SOTY for his part in this video that year.

    ...The year I was born

  • old schooooooool!

  • CAN YOU SAY SWITCH!

  • His progression between Gold Fish and this part is mind blowing.

One of the best parts ever.

    All hail Koston!

  • I recognised the highschool rail that Mike Mo broke his wrist on at 00:30

  • 5 people were cats

  • huge influence

  • it's crazy how everyone skates like koston now. he really set a sort of style for street skating like no one else did.

  • .. i miss all these old school spots.. no one skates Venice no moar.. i take it its all stake stoped?... like bubbas ledge... i mess seeing bubba...

  • @nohj1000000 dude.... those ledges were sandblasted like 10 years ago. That shit is long, long gone.

  • I remember seeing this when it was new and realizing that I would never reach even 25% of what Koston was pulling off in this part. Seeing him switch tre flip the EMB seven 20 years ago sent me into retirement. I think it's safe to say that half of today's pro's wouldn't be able to pull off the tricks in this part at the speed and consistency Koston did them in. Salman was the pioneer. Koston mastered the art of switch skating. P-Rod wouldn't be who his is without Koston's influence.

  • @ipvnarb shane and p-rod are basicly koston of new eras , kostons the original

  • @ipvnarb Wanna know the crazy part about koston? I was reading an interview from back in 2004, and the only serious injury from skateboarding he ever had was some badly sprained ankles and a dislocated finger. The way he ripped back then, and even now, ou'd think he would have alot more than that. It just goes to show that koston is talented on a board.

  • @ipvnarb i realise about now that koston is a fucking bastard for making this techy induced piece of film lmao

  • Iv'e never seen any of kostons early 90's footage till now and my god is it insane

  • Arrrrrrr back in the prime of my skateboarding life (late 90's early 2000's) this video was like gold! some of the best, most fun and exciting street skateing ever, not to mention the funky ass soundtrack arrrrr the good ol day's Awsome

  • After 4 days of skating this big flat bar 2hrs a day, I felt comfortable on my board again. I'm 31, so.... the first day was frustrating because my mind knew how to do the trick, but because I lost some leg muscle, that fucked with me. If those of us who think we can't skate because of an age, threre's something wrong. Skateboarding has changed. In 93 we looked at Gonz as ancient, when he was only 23. Skateboarding today has never been this FREE

  • is he regular?

  • @fresnoskaters22 Nahh, goofy son.

  • @fresnoskaters22 nahh gooffy

  • I've never seen Koston shred that hard, always thought he was quite over rated, but not anymore.

This is sick for now, never mind 1996. Thanks for posting.

  • Hi,

Does anyone know the types of video cameras used to film 90s era skate tapes like this? thanks.

  • Jonze was on speed when he edit that part... way to fast, it make it look rediculous when you think about it... Koston still ahead of is time

  • i was ( depending on when i came out exaclty) a few moths old maybe not even born :D

  • Koston makes mongo look GOOOOOOOOOOD!

  • @79jer1979 well, he only pushes it switch, mongo never looks good if you push it with your normal stance.

  • @theTorpidKings I've seen him alternate between mongo and normal pushing while skating switch before, but his mongo pushes actually have style. Not that goofy, spastic kind that most guys have. And yeah, you NEVER push mongo reg, EVER. I do like a nice seamless pushing style, like Creager's.

  • nice switch frontheels

  • AHEAD OF HIS TIME!!!REAL STREET SKATEBOARDING LEGEND!!!THUMPS UP IF U THINK THE SAME

  • Back in the day koston was going nearly as fast as busenitz :D nice shit, the cam is pretty crappy though :(

  • @Jimbo37706

sorry hd didnt exist 15 years ago.

  • so long ago , so advanced. Koston is the man.

  • wats up with this music..

  • eric koston ripped it even when i was born!

  • Seems like yesterday when i bought this VHS!!

  • so many spots in vancouver

  • 20 years later, he's still ripping. Way to go Koston.

  • does anyone know where i can find eric koston's "Next Generation" part? it's his first video part EVER. if you have a link just post it on my wall or something, thanks.

  • I'm glad grinding a four inch curb was not an acceptable trick for a pro to do in a line in 1996.

  • the best skater and Paul Rodriguez

  • I find the music to be bit of a buzzkill

  • 1996?!?!?! wtf?????

  • @bballboarder019 lol dude hes 40. he's not as old as guy mariano though.

  • @MrSkateholic dude hes 35 and guy mariano 36, for being sponsered since 90 thats not even old

  • @totaLybeetLeJuice Guy is 34 dude, get it right. He's younger than Koston. He was only around 19 when he did Mouse.

  • its crazy how much he progresses from goldfish

  • koston took the 90s to a whole new level

  • Koston is Boss next to anyone, hands down!!!

  • Oh man as I sit at my desk for my corporate job.... I remember watching this video thinking to myself how I would never be where I am today.... God I miss those days of surfing on pavement with no care (debt) of the world around me. To any young riders out there reading this!!! Don't get any debt its way for bankers to enslave you!!!! Push Push Push all you need is water, Chinese food and a skateboard!!!

  • @dksaxton Dude you work at Carls Jr and its a Crack debt, lol

  • @dksaxton unfortuantely for most of us, that's life, man.

  • @dksaxton .... my thoughts exactly

  • Its funny how Koston can get so serious with his skating but like today at the maloof money cup practice session, he was just foolin around with nerdy tricks and just having fun

  • At the time, this was thought to be one of the the best parts of anyone so far. ahh the line starting at 1:19...just going to work.

  • What many of the new school skaters don't know is that koston is koston because he did everything people are doing now in 2010 back then in 1994 ..why do you think he has the respect of every skater who are skating for more then 12 years i mean when this dude did switch ollie noseblunts on a rail guys like mike mo were like 3 years old crying and stuff ..think about it and respect the dude !

  • mongo loool

  • @likeitcold man you're a dumbass...that's only on switch stance dude

  • @likeitcold moron loool

  • nice vid i have some beginner ones been skating since christmas and love it check out my vids? and i have more to come

  • gosh, it's 1996th. i'm freaking shocked. koston kicks ass, no doubt

  • holy shit. video days raped peoples mind with the progression of skating at that point. but this video is only a few years later than it. thats a HUGE difference in such a small amount of time. i'm blown away

  • @Haslamflip327

    noob poser

  • Best vhs video of all time

  • check out my vid ryan and adam shred vibank by pikehunter7

  • Mike who ??

  • damm imagine seeing 2:49 in that same street in 96. that shit woulda blown my mind.

that's what makes kids wanna skate

  • is it just me or does 1996 have worse quality than 1993...also koston is most rad skater eva!!!

  • One of the best skaters ever.

  • is he eric koston cus i cant see if is black our white

    oh sorry =(

  • lol those are some nice ass colors

  • the clip starting at 1:59 is like 5 years ahead of its time (filming wise). i had to watch it like 3 times to see if it was a rolling pan or not lol.

  • LEGEND!!!

  • ..ohh god, circle tubing rails sketch me out so bad, 2:48 too savage, Kostons just too damn good till this day

  • I USED TO SK8 VENICE BEACH BACK IN THE 90s . THAT REALLY PISSED ME OFF WHEN IT WAS BULLDOZED.

  • holy shit i cant b leave this is 14 yrs old lol hes sick man

  • No wonder he had won skater of the year that year, plus this was also very shortly after he became pro.

  • Eric Koston is one of the best and always will be

  • 0:42 sw front heel so clean!

  • @asfarligjag

word I had to take a second look at that too

  • one of the best parts i have ever seen hands down uhhhh son

  • Comment removed

  • wish it was still here

all thats left is a wall and 2 cones and table tops covered in sand 0:51

  • @WhenInDoubtBand i know the venice pit was sick as fuck. so wack they tore it down.

  • this part is still relevant today.

  • Koston needs to have a new part in a Nike vid or some shit.

  • How can he go that fast doing those kind of tricks!? It´s fucking fast I think, even for today´s standards...

  • @namelessguy93 Its a skateboarding secret the faster you skate the easier it is to do tricks.

  • @namelessguy93 allmost all those tricks has been speed up in the editing...

  • @namelessguy93 He is HAULIN ASS!!!

  • @namelessguy93 its the same as going slow. most people just go slower because they do not want to eat shit.

  • @namelessguy93 they edit the part more faster then in reality to fit the music and for being more impressive... sorry to say it...

  • @roby99 So when they sped up Koston's part, they probably would have to slow it down if it would have been John Cardiel skating : D

This part would be still impressive with one frame per second.

    Thanks for the info.

  • @roby99 i don't know man, it seems real to me seeing pushing hard...

  • @namelessguy93 i know right it seems like that but then i started thinkin its wayyy older cameras and editing styles like the software mustve been really different back then, plus they have soo much slow motion in all these new skate vids i love the 90's vids cause there was no presure and so much more organic and real they just filmed what they were doing at the time and it was cool

  • @namelessguy93

Dude... He's Froston... He freezes time every semi-second so he can pull tricks steezyly... Haha...

  • tiight shiit4backintheday

  • so mike mo was like what 6 or 7 yrs old...and this footage was a year old by the time most of us saw it the first time...yet some kids STILL think mike mo is better cause of a game of skate and a 720 flip.

they probably havent seen this i guess

  • yeah.I don't think Mo is the best at all.He may be good at flat, but overall he doesn't stand as tall as other Tech skaters.I mean, look at Tyler Bledsoe. That dude is still am and he kills at tech skating.and so Does Koston. This part is ill even for today's standards and it was released 14 years ago.

  • @jaesi25 I'm glad you and 5 other people are all over Mike Mo's and Sean Malto's dicks.

  • @BlackGrass805

what the fukc are you talking about? Koston is my favorite skatr period. you got me confused with someone else and you obviously didnt understand my comment. you need to read it again and send your negative comments to those who deserve it.

  • @jaesi25I didn't say Koston wasn't your favorite skater. I didn't even know he was your favorite skater.

  • @jaesi25 Yea agreed. Mo is really good and Im a fan but Koston is better. straight up

  • @jaesi25 i gt what your saying but i like mike mo because hes a ripper but koston is one of the g.o.a.t

  • @jaesi25

mikemos fully flared is better then this but koston is waaaaaayyyy better in yeah right and fully flared

  • @jaesi25 true kids do think but i am a kid but hav loved skateboarding since i was about 4 and eric koston is a legend

  • @jaesi25 Thats what i'm talking about!!

  • @jaesi25 cuz kids r fucking dumb. not even mike mo is cocky enough to think hes even half the skater koston is on his worst day.

  • Dude skate faster than bike

  • i was born that year lol

  • same

  • this is decent even by todays standards

  • @dgk1122334455

this is hella amazing by todays standards

  • @dgk1122334455 decent?? this is totally up there, "even today"

  • HAHA! I watched that fs heel about ten times then looked at all the posts! Goodcall Cal

  • the movie have so bad quallity but the skate is great.

  • cus it was from 96. waht do u expect?

  • exactly, it was from 96 and not from 74.

the video quality seems more like 74.

my cellphone record better than this.

  • look at every other video from 96 they look exactly like this.

  • you're wrong.

the goldfish, that was recorded 3 years before looks a lot better.

but that dosent matter, what matter is the SKATE!
