Even if this is Shakespeare's view of the speech delivered before Agincourt, Henry V must have been inspiring to lead 8,500 diseased and tired British against 36,000 of the nobility of France. Result less than 200 English dead and around 10,000 French dead.
@matey2253 Yeah that's possible and probably true. But you cannot forget the french factor. The French factor is the probable outcome that the French will either fight and lose quickly, the French will surrender and die anyways, or the French will claim victory even if their allies did the fighting and the dieing. God Bless Henry V but we cannot forget the French Factor that has taken affect in so many many conflicts.
@futureWestPointhero; Indeed, the French Factor must be taken into account, but it does not account for all the casualties.
Because, remember, this battle took place before the Official Standardization of Frenchness, so there were still Normans and Burgundians and other impurely-French soldiers within the French army.
Henry V is perhaps one of the greatest people ever to have lived. I mean, imagine what a morale boost this speech must have been, and then during the actual battle, ill, still disheartened, and badly outnumbered, looking over and seeing their king fighting just as hard as they were. I can only imagine how those men must have felt seeing something like that, that their king cared as much about the cause that he would risk his own life the same as them.
Its not because the end is near that men become brave, Its because they accept that the end is near and with this insight they will fight with all they have till the end
I'm usually not a fan of the "pre-battle" speech that seems to always show up in these kind of movies...this is the exception that brings shivers down my spine.
from this day to the end of the world but in it we shall be remembered, we few, we happy few, we band of brothers. for he today who sheds his blood for me shall he be my brother
And that guy, Kenneth Branagh, is directing the Thor movie.

Henry V is a scum and a mass murderer. He motivated and commanded his troops to plunder and kill innocent civilians.
This is the reason why he died young struck by illness and his son was a weakling leading to the war of the Roses.

"We few, we happy few ... "
One of my favourite passages from Shakespeare. A magical speech that evokes spirit and strength through conviction and personality.
Superb! Thanks.
