I attended both the matinee show and the evening concert in June 1974 ...the last f--king day the high school...since then...seen La Bowie 30 times or more and had the honour of meeting him in the flesh twice...thanks for this sony...wish you could have been with me! Gem
My long-term boyfriend died recently of a drug overdose at age 22. He was a musician and he really idolized people like Pete Doherty and Lou Reed. When I see this I wish I could have gotten him into Bowie-- he's the real deal, and a good example of someone who was a true performance artist. He took it right to the edge in all possible ways, but he made it through in the end and he's still making art today. This period of Bowie's was amazing, but I'm thankful he came out of it.
@katiekentuckyyy I am so sorry to hear about your loss. I have been thru the drugs thing and it's no joke for anyone involved. To be honest I think we areb lucky to still have Bowie around. He's a clever man. He saw through the shallowness of LA/Hollywood and decamped in Berlin where he rented a not very posh flat in a poor district and lodged up with Iggy Pop. Thet even did their own shopping. And of course he wrote one of his best songs ever there Hereos.
he's amazing I don't give a damn what the idiot teenagers think. He's awesome and if it weren't for him music would literally be different! Think about it. Love you with all my heart David..:)
It is so true that if you "get" Bowie, especially in this day and age full of awful music, he touches your life... Bowie forever!!! All Bowie fans should help with Bowiefest 2011, YouTube/ facebook have more info on it, look it up!
Very hard to belieive that he, at one time, had no confidence in his voice. I'm sure that he was meant to realize that he has a fantastic voice. I can't imagine his music without that voice!!
If you do love his music, may I suggest you read some of the books he was reading in this era of his career and earlier on also, it will help you understand his music better, and the world at large too I suppose.
People like George Orwell, Nietzche,Kahlil Gibran, even Lovecraft
If you pick up one of his better biographies you will find the references you need.
@BlueSoulJim ;Hey I was just piecing this back together to give to my docotor actually. What a pleasant suprise to hear Luther in there. Cheers for your comment. PDB
there are no more artists like Bowie these days....which is extremely shameful for the world...it means we are not getting anywhere....but hopefully ones will come....at least I want to believe so.,,

If only everyone thought the way you do. I like him and love what he did. Everyone around me hates him and don't give a damn what he did for music. As far as they're concerned Lady Gaga is the coolest thing ever. I hate her!
This was interesting to watch because of Bowie, but it doesn't strike me as a very good documentary; it starts out with "David Bowie: outrageous freak" and ends with "David Bowie: soul singer"
@emmaviolinist Bowie's career worked like that... he isn't called the musical chameleon for nothing. With mixed results he's dipped into many genres over the years, and even when he doesn't get it quite right you're still compelled to listen because of what he's accomplished and who he is. The fact that the documentary went from, in your words, "David Bowie: outrageous freak" to "soul singer" at the end illustrates the nature of his diversity perfectly. It's a damn fine documentary if you ask me
Bowie tried to give Luther to feel comfortable performing on stage, but because of Luther's weight problem, it would be another 6 years at the late age of 30 that he would finally start to record his first solo album. Luther was once booed on stage during the Young Americans tours because of his weight problem. Some die hard were disappointed by Bowie's turn to soul music instead of sticking to rock.
bowie met luther vandross through carlos alomar in 1974 and alomar drafted him into the bowie set up for a while. he sang on "young americans" which bowie put together in the middle of the "diamond dogs" tour filmed here.
most people i know, dont know who david bowie IS.. but they know his name, because i talk about him all the time, and they know that me and my friend would be VERY angry if they insulted him... but they all moan and ask me what my problem is every time i mention him..... oh well.... XD being a Bowie fan leaves me wonderfully indifferent to the mundane world of these days...
you dont know how much we have in common but Im totally the same, i always tell my friends about him and they whine and whine and ask if i dont have something better to talk about and i say "never". just because his music is not 'Todays new music', i think that's dumb i mean just because im 15 doesn't mean i can only listen to Lady gaga and lil wayne..i dont even like that sort of music it has no flavour. David Bowie is my passion.
I know exactly what you mean, and all my friends are like- "why cant you listen to something other people listen to, like," ...umm, actually i don't pay any attention to music now a days, i dunno who's who, the all sound the same, in that, they are singing for MONEY, not passion, like people used to in Bowies times!!!
If it weren't for David Bowie, i would be just as insane as most of the world!!!!
When I got into Bowie I was thought odd. My friends (male) where into the usual heavy metal etc. But Bowie crosses all musical genres and he's awsome. He's made so muc great music and influenced so many people in pop/ rock art etc.
Hi Pod. I was 12 when I discovered Bowie I'm now 45. It's hard to express the kind of love and strange fascination I have for Bowie. All I know that he makes fantastic music and is a consumate performer live

Thank you once more for posting all this...
And a footage from Right from Young Americans...fabulous...
David is the most exceptional artist of all times...

The guitar riff on diamond dogs is pure heaven.
It looks like he's having so much fun on stage!
It'd be fun to do that, not just singing, but performing in other mediums like acting at the same time.
It seems like his concerts were more like spectacles and stories than just music alone. You went to see him act and story-tell as well as sing.
Why wasn't I born back then?!?
<:(

Wether you like him or not, there's no denying that this guy definitely brought something amazing to the world of music. He's a fucking genius.
That being said, if I could go back in time and see anything, him in concert would just be..Wow. What an experience.
