  • greek=christian arab

  • What about 'ti kanete' for 'how are you', which is waaay more common, or 'addio' for goodbye, which again is waaay more common, or 'yasas' for 'hello', which again is waaaaaay more common! This way of learning Greek is waaaaay to fucking hard, and ridiculous for a beginner!

  • po-lee kavla! eseis?! xDDDD

  • Why would anybody use the phrase 'do you speak english' in any other language except english ?

  • Μαστουρωμένος είναι;;;ΧΑΧΑΧΑΧΑ!!!!

  • I just started taking ancient greek as an extra subject in school and i gotta say.. i love greek!!

  • @carmelitarides it is an amazing language...there is no big difference between the different forms of the greek language...an educated Greek will understand all forms and dialects of the Greek language you use..although try hard with the accent.. i know many people who are great in greek vocabulary, orthography and grammar but their accents are terrible and people can hardly understand them...

  • "Ya sas" doesn't mean "Goodbye". You can use it both for "Hello" and "Goodbye". Even just "Ya"...

  • България е най-голямо!Гърция е тъпо!

  • wrong.

  • I know this will be "too soon" and possibly distasteful but it is meant as humour...

Survival words? Then what are the words for "bailout", "angry" and "riot"?

  • might sound strange, but i consider reading greek much much much easier than hearing/listening.

  • μα καλα ποιος θελει να μαθει ελληνικα στις μερες μας ? η ελλαδα καταρέε και θ'ελουν να μάθουν την γλώσσα μας .. τελος πάντων

  • the word for goodbye is antio! asxetoi!!

  • @Sexychristiana eisai poly sexy kias mhn se kserw. xaxaxaxaxaxa

  • @b0ulgar0kt0n0s xaxa plaka exeis!!

  • Greek is so funny; it sounds a little to me like Spanish played backwards! LOL! I'd like to learn it someday.

  • Πού είναι το μπάνιο;

    οέο;

  • is it just me but when he said goodbye it sounded like that aol guy when u close aol

  • The phrase for: Your mom's dick

    Της μανας σου ο πουτσος.

    Tis manas sou o poutsos

    Now you re trying

    ...

  • @blancbard - LOL!

  • @blancbard Finally something useful lol Thanks a lot!!

  • man i hate this nationalistic coments. neighter egyptians nor greeks has a bloodline with ancient ansestors.its all over now. rather than being proud of your past, make history yourself .then it would be something to be proud of. this is nothing more than a kid bragging about an expensive toy bought by the parents.grow up!

  • @musiciankara To say 'it's all over' is a bit dramatic lol, You do know there have been various studies proving contempory Greeks share a common hallotype and DNA with Ancient fossils found in Greece. In-fact, contempory greeks are a combonation of Atlanto-Alpine and Meddateraian.(as were ancients) I am sure it is fair to say Egyptians also have links with their past. There may not be purity, but there is certainly continuity.

  • @musiciankara in greek please....;-)

  • Wrong it would be yasas if you're talking to a group of people. And most people would just want you to say yassou as hello

  • @nicktabus1000 ''yasas'' besides when talking to a group of people is the formal way to say hello to someone.maybe a stranger

  • how about the second person in singular number??

    they only speak formal

  • The lady seems to be Greek. But not the man

  • the greek really latinized .... words like "iste" or "este or "onomazeste" have their fundament in latin ... i'm a romanian and in my language the word "este" = to be or the word " onomastica" it refers to the birth name and as you might know , romanian is 80% latin and the rest of them are from our ancestors and from the slavs turks hungarians who influenced our language through time and even from greeks :)

  • @DeathNest94 no latin was influenced by ancient greek (grammar, syntax, lexicon) go do a research man before you post

  • @DeathNest94 i am refering to the neo-greek ...

  • @DeathNest94 "iste" is the formal/plural form or "ise"(you are) it has nothing to do with latin. That was used in ancient greek aswell.

  • ελληνικα για τουρίστες που θα επισκεφτούν το πικπα βούλας?

  • Ahahahaha I laughed really hard! XD If someone talk to me like this, I'll think he's a retard rofl! ΧD And, really, what's all that "po-LEE ka-LA e-SEES?" thing...!?!?! Do you expect ppl learn the greek pronounce with that!?!?!?! AHAHAHAHAHAHAHAH! Jeez!!!!!

  • @xToniaAntx idiot the half words that america and europe are using is greek..

  • @duckdodgerss and....where did I say the opposite..? Because I really can't find it in my post.. Or I am really Idiot, OR you are hun.. And in case you're too busy to check it out, Ελληνίδα είμαι φίλε μου..

  • not sure about this... i took greek 101 in college and this seems like veeerrrrryyyy formal language. i learned to say hello as yia sou or yia sas or even kalimera (bonjour) or kalispera for the afternoon!! and why taking the complicated way to say what is your name when you could say pos se léné? and can we really say pou iné toilétes?

  • To the guy who said Greeks are garbage: who the fuck do you think you are!?!?!? I am 100% Greek and damn proud of it. I live in Greece for 1/2 of my life and in no way shape or form are we closed minded. What if I said ALL Americans are stupid dumb fucks who only care about them selves and are very greedy?? Is that true about everyoe?? No! We are a very proud people and we take pride in our heritage.... So suck it!

  • @Spottygiraffe4 Why do you assume that s/he is american? limguanengdap is from Malaysia, if you go to their profile... Thanks for that

  • greek...i find it quite an interesting language.

  • Αχ, οι Έλληνες! Διασκέδαση Γλώσσα για να μάθετε! Θέλω να πω Κοίτα πώς φαίνεται φοβερό! : (Ντροπή δεν είναι πολλοί άνθρωποι που μιλούν:. Δ Είναι cool έτσι κι αλλιώς!

  • @limguanengdap shut the fuck up. im greek and im not close minded! and EVERY greek i no is very open minded and easy to get along with

  • @limguanengdap And if Greeks are garbage why do you spam every single greek video? When you think bad about someone you dont talk about him. If you do then you'r just jealous. It only shows your quality you braindead freak, something you dont have.

  • @limguanengdap

shut up!like you are better!do you have better history?no

is your country so good so someone could make war to have it?no

is your country strong and optimistic?no!

so shut up!did i come to say something bad about your country?no!

and you know why?cause i don't look someone from what country come from but i look how they are as characters!

but sadly...U ARE BAD AT CHARACTER SO GO AND FIND SOME1 TO TELL YOU WHAT TO DO WHEN YOU'RE JEALOUS!YOU SHOULDN'T B JEALOUS AN OTHER COUNTRY!

  • που ειναι η μπαλα οεο?

  • why is she so sad?

  • Whew... I'm Russian. The pronunciation is a cinch... but the letters!!

  • This is NOT a good video! We don't speak like that on everyday basis. Some of these phrases are so fake....as @amatorynumber said : "everyone speaks as if we were her majesty the queen" hahahaha kalo!!!

  • How do you say ''now you say it''

  • @Nickname997 "TOra PEEte to eSEES"

  • yia sou malaka!

  • what about 'pos se léne?' for what is your name? I don't trust this series, everyone speaks as if we were her majesty the queen!!!!!

  • @amatorynumber ikr, when was the last time you heard a greek say pos onomazeste

  • hérete is OLD!!!! yia soo(informal) or yia sas (formal) will do. And I am not even Greek!!! :-D

  • @amatorynumber no - "herete" - we mostly use it when we enter in a room with more than 3 ppl inside - and when we live out of the room in about 4-7 afternoon - its yia sou - yia sas is good :))

  • Greek rules. Greece rules. ANd I like Age of Mythology because the units talk in greek. But, must be an ancient form of greek. Like : Prostagma, Metalefs, Britomosh, buforbosh or, fireftis. LLULL

  • @zooropah82 Prostagma is still used (πρόσταγμα), and metalefs (μεταλλεύς) would be understood by any Greek. The thing is that due to the continouus use of the language through the ages, the changes are not a product of foreign intervention but rather of linguistic evolution, an average greek would be able to roughly translate an ancient text because the etymology of the words is the same.

  • @zooropah82 haha yea XDD does anyone know what they mean??? XD

  • @FreakyFeline88 Well metalefs must have something to do with mining and Britomosh I think it's woodcutting ( at least in the game ). You should ask a Greek as I'm Spanish LOL.

  • @zooropah82 i am amazed about how much strangers interest about greece... and i am also an age of mythology fan... :D You are correct, this video game is using mostly ancient greek words, but they are understandable by all of the greek people. Thanks for your attention. :)

  • @b0ulgar0kt0n0s Well Greece has one of the most deep cultural an mythological history of the world. I mean the greek mythology is awesome. Everything had an explanation, the sun is carried by Helios, prometheus crafted humans with clay, Zeus creates storms. So much imagination. I like Greek names also, like Mikaelos Kiriakos Defanopoulos ( I made up this one lol ). I'm Spanish by the way.

  • @zooropah82 My name is Stefanos, and I'm greek haha :P You have great knowledge about mythology, very nice... I think you must visit greece one day... its worth a visit especially the islands... The life in the greek islands is mostly traditional, it will remind you of ancient Greece.

  • @b0ulgar0kt0n0s Shure , when someone asks me what would be my favourite place to visit I always say greece ! Mainly because the history. I love greek mythology and the ancient philosophers, Plato, Aristoteles, Socrates etc... the Iliad is great. And yes, I would lke to go to Crete and eat some modena olives, pastisio and moussaka :).

  • @zooropah82 hahaha, pastitsio and moussaka are fucking awesome!!!! i would also recomend you ''PITA WITH GIROS'' oh god... i think is one of the cheapiest and most delicious food on the planet... fucking awesome my friend... PITA GIROS!!!! :P

  • HOW ARE YOU in greek MAAAN I PLAYED AGE OF MYTHOLOGY HAHAHA VERY NICE

  • this is mostly wrong and the accents are terrorible, especially the man's the girl's accent isn't to bad

  • i thought ya sas also worked as hello (formal)

  • @Ahlycks "ya sas" and "herete" have excactly the same meaning.

  • @Ahlycks no herete is the formal one and as for ya sas its works both ways(used to say hello to many people in a semi formal way and also to say goodbye to many people again.another word with the meaning of goodbye is the following: adio(αντιο). OH ! and to say hello to one person in a quite informal way(although not offensive for greeks)and usually to a man,not a woman is :τι γινεται ρε μαλακα? (te ginete re malaka?) ;)

  • @Ahlycks it does

  • difficult! XD

  • e-sees? lol oti na nai...

  • Herete is so polite that it almost sounds ironic...i hardly ever user it...i prefer "kalimera" or "kalispera" as greetings (and i'm Greek)

  • "Kalimera" is for good morning and "kalispera" is for good afternoon, those two words has nothing to do with "Herete" which means Hello in english, we usally use the word Herete in noon, the time between 12:00-17:00 right after the morning and before the afternoon. I don't find it ironic at all, it depends from the way you say it but this goes for all the words of the world.

  • we need some more words!!

  • if this 2 people are n't greeks , they have perfect greek accent

  • very polite upclass greek.

  • Hey y'all, I have a question. I'm an English student just starting to learn Greek. I'm still "green", so go easy, lol. I just wanted to know the difference between the two phrases: "me-LENE..." and "on-o-MAZ-o-mih". They both mean "my name is", but why are there two phrases for the same greeting? Is there a difference? Cheers!

  • "me" in greek is the same like me in english, me lene means, "they call me"

that is bad greek, correct greek is "onomazomai" that means, my name is ...

  • thanks Pseudomacedonian! btw, are you actually macedonian, or somewhere between that and another nationality?... just wondering where the "pseudo" part of it comes in!

  • yeah its the same But not phonologically.that is to say,me in english is pronounced :mi but me in greek is mE.(like Error)

  • when someone asks you "pos se lene?" or more polite "pos sas lene?"the answer is supposed to be "me lene ...." if one asks you "pos onomazese?" or more polite "pos onomazeste" the answer is supposed to be "onomazome...." of course in both cases you can just say your name with neither "me lene" nor "onomazome"..these two sound too formal...we almost never use these phrases in everyday conversations..if i heard someone saying "onomazome...." i would LOL....it sounds like it has some authority

  • there's more than two words for the same expresion that goes for almost all of the greek words thats why its so hard to learn to speek greek correctly

  • What is ''To Kafeino''?

  • kafeneion (pronounced kafenion) is the coffee house

  • you mean kafeNIo....its the greek traditional cafe where mostly old men gather playing card games, discussing, arguing etc..LOL

  • @Regdot cafe

  • you live thanks to Greeks though

  • I awarded a "thumbs down" to snickhill's comment, but isn't yours just a little too rhetorical to be true? lol

  • well, if you are from america you will hear only gossip..

  • kali profora exei i kopela!!!

  • hello is also yasas and goodbye is antio and how are you is ti kanete???!!!im confused man

  • yahhh i swear how are you is like te kanis or somethin like that...

  • ti kanis?= how are you? but it is very informal-friendly....for older people or total strangers we use "ti kanete?" or "pos eeste?"..these 2 are more formal than "ti kanis?' or even "ti ginete?" which young Greeks tell each other when they meet on the streets...
