Very nice song ! I also felt so angry about this I wrote a song as well. Mine is called "4 Seconds" it's under the band name "Rain Devil" on facebook or reverbnation if anyone wants to check it out..
RIP. Watched the dash cam in my law enforcement class today and the cop was a total moron. You dont shoot someone for holding a knife, no matter how many times you tell them to drop it. Its cops like this that give departments and police in general a bad name. once again, RIP buddy.
@coolanddark ya. i know a there a lot of mentally ill people around here, but they only have the best intentions. he was just in the wrong place at the wrong time.
I didn't understand until I saw the footage that this was real. You did a great job expressing this in music. - a very moving video, enough to break your heart.
In the police state every natural act is viewed with suspicion. The nanny protectors must protect us from ourselves because carving wood can be "dangerous." How would Seattle's "finest" react if thousands of people showed up in downtown one day to whittle wood silently? Would they call in SWAT, the Army, Homeland Security? Wake up, people! We have a right to be who we are, different.
@heppepster Thanks for your comment but I think your lumping all cops in with a few bad ones. They are a little on edge right now because of the 4 that were murded in that coffee shop and also the one that was ambushed and killed up in the central district. However I understand and join you in your anger.
@coolanddark You're right, of course. Not all cops are bullies who relish seeing citizens cringe before them, but since 9/11, I'd argue the whole country has turned into a police state. I hope the "good" cops don't shoot us when the masters tell them to. This particular shooting is hardly an appropriate response to the ambush murders perpretrated against the four Washington officiers. Deaf homeless Native whittlers beware!
What a sad and tragic story. Beautiful song, but as you said, it's a shame it had to be written. And you did it in a sensitive way, not condemning all policemen for the actions of one. Great job, Dan. It's one of your best songs, a song that had to be written.
@guitmartiman Thanks Jack for you nice comment! This was a tough one for sure. I wish they could all be happy songs! One day when were all in Heaven it will be so!
Fantastic....always amazed at how you can write about anything...This new version is damn excellent...and the video was wicked...really makes the song come alive man...Dan the man !!! Excellently done my friend !! Cheers !
@Eddie629 Thanks Eddie! This was an emergency upload on account of they found out the Cop was to blame! Its a huge story here and I was getting complaints from the locals cause i said the cop wasnt to blame in my last post. So had to blame him here.lol. anyways Im rambling on to long. Thanks My incredibly talented friend Eddie!
This is a beautiful song but a really sad thing to happen in our society. Yes the police are needed for our protection but sometimes they go too far as we see it too often now. A good thing people don't go out without their cell phone or camera!!!! a lot more stuff would be hidden!!! Thanks for sharing and be safe
@sjkalsc Thank my friend! You are so right! I got pulled over not long ago and I immediately put my hands on the dashboard so the cop knew where my hands were! They got a hard job though! Dealing with all them crooks and stuff!
I saw the 'dashcam' video from the cruiser.....also one from his sister she said 'he did not have the knife open'....another guy said 'it was a legal knife open or closed'...'The Man' is alive and well in psych too...steer clear of those bastards too !....oneday you can write my song...
@CharmedQuarkZ99 I understand your anger and frustration. we been dealing with it since the shooting here! The whole towns about to go Egypt on us! now now You gonna bury us all! Can you do streets of Laredo!? I wuv that one!
I can see why. What an aweful thing. Was planning 'Home On The Range' cuz I got the lyrics wrote out here...is thatun aka 'Cowboy's Lament'?....Ill que it up iffin yas a askin fer me to..
Thank you for posting the lyrics, Dan. I do love to read them. Your songs about the real people who impact your life in some way are always among my very favorites.
This is such a sad story and I am glad you wrote a song about John Williams. Every life is special. A tragic loss. I like this version of your song and the pictures you put up with it very much. Into my favorites. NAncy
@nllleonard Thanks Nancy! Yes being a folk singer as you know means you have write about the sad stuff as well as the happy stufff.. Needless to say I wish this one never had to be written. Hope your having a great weekend my friend!

@CherokeeBPM they should also force convicted criminals to wear bodycams to so we can keep an eye on them as well.
