Even though Stone Cold has always been a WWF Wrestler (for the most part) in this storyline his hatred for Vince McMahon made him side with WCW. The Hardcore title for most of its exsistence was defended under the "24/7 rule" which meant that the title was on line at all times and anyone could pin the champion and win the title. Hence Jeff Hardy jumped in and won the title. Hope that clears it up for you
