Here in Alabama we get a lot of Tornadoes it's scary and we get them all year around and for yall people in the North it is scary real scary and i get scared of them too cause we get alot of them doesn't mean i ain't scared ha but what was it rated on Torcon
Gorgeous shot, but when you (a general you, not the person who shot this) see that fast of rotation that close by it's best to just get to the basement
I was in Hampton Roads in that storm, although it had weakened since passing through Wakefield by the time it made it to you all. That was the strongest storm of the day in this area of the world
I was in Blackstone va at the time and that storm lasted for 3 hours. Blew up a transformer. Our power was out for 2 hours. The next day, pretty much the same thing happened. we had no way of knowing if we had a tornado warning or not because it was a pretty serious storm
Tornado sirens needed to be installed in VA, and parts of Maryland, because it is important to have Tornado sirens to let us know that a Tornado might happen or if its coming.
I think everywhere should be equipped with those sirens, even the places on the west coast where practicly none happen. Even though it may seem like some places NEVER recieve tornadoes, one still can happen anywhere given the right conditions. This video is a perfect example of that kind of thing happening.
yea i live in manassas va ( we have nvr gotten a tornado excect 4 mayb once but i doubt) and we dont have sirens, but i dont know about anywhere else.
Yeah that was a nice wall cloud.....Va does not get many Tornadoes but we can get them....not as violent as the midwest but if the atmospheric conditions are right they can form anywhere in the world! only violent tornado i know of here in teh Va area was the F4 that hit La Plata MD back in 2002...i went that same weekend to lok at the damage....leveled mainly everyhting in it's path.....
When a tornado warning is issued for Fairfax or NOVA, 95% of the time it's a warning based on rotation that is detected on doppler radar.
Back on September 30th this year, a small tornado warning polygon was issued for the Burke and Centerville areas when a line of storms took on rotation just after sunset. It never produced a tornado, but there was certainly an opportunity for one to touch down at any time.
u remember dat really big storm in n va around 2nd week of june 08, n after a week my mom friend told me dat we did hav a tornado in fairfax county but it was 100ft from the ground tht's how lowest it went down.
I live in Fairfax County VA and every time theres a tornado warning it's really not bad, cuz it doesn't hit the ground doesn't really damage property, but gets windy and loud wind blowin
Awesome Rotation!! was this time lapsed (sped up) or was this the ACTUAL speed?? if so i would of needed a new pair of pants if i saw this coming at me!!
i live in Prince George vaginia.my school had called a code BLUE!!which mean tornado or hurricane watch.they had our school on lock down.u know where they said on the news.where it hit south park mall.my mom was about 2 go.and b in the middle of the tornado.but the school cALLED HER.2 come pick up me and my twin brother.we r 10.anyway.i was cryin.my mom didn't know what was goin on.she works in chester field.she did not know it was a tornado.
i just posted on another video about the tornadoes that day - they headed over towards the national mall & all those people waiting for the fireworks had to take shelter in the smithsonian museums, although i think it broke up before it got there. i remember being in arlington & hearing NBC4 say my exact neighborhood was being hit right then - in fairfax county next to the loudon county line. that day sucked. nice video though.
Im sure there was some ground level circulation under that mesocyclone probably brief subvorticies. The ground was probably wet so you won't see dust unless the circulation gets stronger. I wouldn't want to see a house under that low cloud base.
Northern Fairfax didn't get much of anything on the 4th... central FX, just north of FX city and Centreville got golf ball sized hail, just south of there was some strong rotation/possible tornado.
Mannn... I'm still trying to get over this storm. One of the best supercells I've ever seen in this part of the country. Yeah - unbelievable positioning underneath awesome rotation.

@tweetlebug365 We dont have sirens .

@tweetlebug365.... In Virginia we do not have tornado sirens. Tornadoes don't happen enough in Northern Virginia to warrant installing sirens.
