Not necessary a great movie but a good movie! ! Audience need to understand any director attempts to capture an essence of a character and portray slice of their life. NOT a broad spectrum of culture just to make sure you don't offend certain people...As for why Indians in India don't remember this movie? well it was not widely marketed/distributed nor did it have great star cast like other bollywood moves...

This movie is basically targeted towards Non resident Indians(NRI's) who are very confused whether to follow Indian culture or Western. Movie might have been liked by the foreign audience but everything that has been shown is not part of the Indian culture and movie is hardly remembered by Indians back home.

I am confused as what the director actually wanted to prove in the movie.

It won awards because foreign audience had never seen song and dance on such a grand scale.
