I love the song musically but the lyrics have a tendency to make me cringe a tad. I've studied religion a bit with a teacher who had a great interest in the subject and he actually opened my eyes to that religions as a whole maybe are more than what meets the eye at first glance.

Christians seem to arrogantly believe that every mention of God MUST be 100% directed to their own belief in God, and fail to see the real underlying theme of songs like this. That's just what I've noticed, anyway.

I feel that all religion is the blinding of our species.Some argue that it was a light in a dark time.I say that if you ask anyone who lived at the time of Christ or Muhammad or during the Crusades that didn't agree with any of it or thought it was nonsense those people either kept that to them selves or suffered horribly.

@idontneedaname Well, a lot of metal bands have grown up in societies where Christianity is the religious norm and thus have a lot more experience with it, plus I think any criticism is thus made more valid. A lot less experience with islam equals a song written from an outside perspective and a lot of times that makes it fall short.

@idontneedaname Yeah, absolutely, but I think that lyrics written about islam from an outside perspective lack nuances and are just about the bad parts of it since those may be more visible, like this song. I love the song musically but the lyrics have a tendency to make me cringe a tad. I've studied religion a bit with a teacher who had a great interest in the subject and he actually opened my eyes to that religions as a whole maybe are more than what meets the eye at first glance.

Christians seem to arrogantly believe that every mention of God MUST be 100% directed to their own belief in God, and fail to see the real underlying theme of songs like this. I notice far too often Christians getting overly defensive over this and other similar songs (Fools of Damnation by Epica, for example) without realizing it is more about Islam than it is Christianity itself. That's just what I've noticed, anyway.

Why should I feel any different about metal that slams islam, hinduism, judaism, or anything else?
