Simply one of the best screen actors of all time: natural, honest and true. A beautiful human being too. I have many favourite Sidney Poitier movies, but if I have to pick one it will be A Raisin in the Sun. Thank you for this tribute.

Thought that Paul Newman was a better actor until I just saw a clip on youtube with both he and Mr Poitier in Paris Blues. Paul was the star, butI think Sidney had greater power in their scenes together. Poitier won the Oscar for Lillies of The Field, the same year that Newman was nominated for Hud.

His absolutely beautiful legacy of films in the 1960's has not lost a bit of it's ability to inspire hope and invoke the celebration of the human spirit. Sidney is the best! Anyone with sanity would agree! My Faves, 1st- To sir with love and a patch of blue, second- A raisin in the sun, third- lillies of the field. there is no actor in this day in age that will gain as much respect as sidney did for millions of people.

This is a great tribute. Thank you. My favourite Sidney Poitier movie is 'A Raisin in the Sun'. What a cast! And his co-star, the brilliant Ruby Dee, has just been nominated for her first Oscar at the age of 83. I have many favourite screen actors, including Michael Caine, Anthony Hopkins, Montgomery Clift and Thomas Mitchell, and Mr P stands with them.
