Simply one of the best screen actors of all time: natural, honest and true. A beautiful human being too. I have many favourite Sidney Poitier movies, but if I have to pick one it will be A Raisin in the Sun. Thank you for this tribute.
I'm so very proud to be a fan of Mr. Poitier. He made me take notice in "The Heat of the Night" ...his tenderside showed through as the independent thinker in "A Patch of Blue"- he even encompasses a comidic side in "Lillies of the Field"-thank you for all of your dynamic performances and 'thank you' rdulaneyir for this posting set to music from another one of his great performances!
"A Raisin In The Sun", "For The Love of Ivy", "A Patch of Blue", "In The Heat of the Night", "Longships", and "Guess Who's Coming to Dinner" are some of my all-time faves.
So many wonderful memories. One of the most amazing untrained and unbridled talents ever. He is a screen and scene stealer. A beautiful man !!!! Love U Sid.
Blackboard Jungle, A Slender Thread, A Patch of Blue, A Raisin in the Sun, Lillies of the Field, The Bedford Incident, Guess Who's Coming to Dinner?, To Sir, With Love, just to name a few. !963 Oscar for Lillies of the Field.
Thought that Paul Newman was a better actor until I just saw a clip on youtube with both he and Mr Poitier in Paris Blues. Paul was the star, butI think Sidney had greater power in their scenes together. Poitier won the Oscar for Lillies of The Field, the same year that Newman was nominated for Hud.
This is a very wonderfull song that touch my heart. Althought i'm a teacher but it reminded me when i was at school. It,s wonderfull to be a teacher like him
Thank you for posting this wonderful tribute. Sidney Poitier is one of my favorite actors. He's such a humble, unassuming man. To me, Mr. Poitier defines class and dignity.
My favorite ol skool actor,I took pictures of his HAND&Fingerprints that were engraved in the ground on sunset Blvd,In LA a dream come true!My mom use to watch all his films,I heard he is 81 yrs old now,he also won an oscarmore than once,Job well Done!Ms.106&Park!
Wonderful tribute to a wonderful star. I cannot begin to describe my love and respect for Sidney Poitier. His absolutely beautiful legacy of films in the 1960's has not lost a bit of it's ability to inspire hope and invoke the celebration of the human spirit. My peronal favorites are "A patch of blue" "To sir with love" "In the heat of the night" and "A raisin in the sun". Thank you sir, from the bottom of my heart.
Look upon him as a man who not only broke barriers but also as a man of class and style...He never needed to play stereotypical roles---that would have been beneath him and his immense talent...Maybe someday no one wil ever say--a great black actor or one of first great black actors but simply--Sidney Poiter---One of the best ever--period!
Sidney is the best! Anyone with sanity would agree! My Faves, 1st- To sir with love and a patch of blue, second- A raisin in the sun, third- lillies of the field. there is no actor in this day in age that will gain as much respect as sidney did for millions of people.
This is a great tribute. Thank you. My favourite Sidney Poitier movie is 'A Raisin in the Sun'. What a cast! And his co-star, the brilliant Ruby Dee, has just been nominated for her first Oscar at the age of 83. I have many favourite screen actors, including Michael Caine, Anthony Hopkins, Montgomery Clift and Thomas Mitchell, and Mr P stands with them.
I loved A Patch of Blue and Guess Who's Coming to Dinner. One of the greatest attributes of Mr. Poitier is his on screen presence, his demeanor, and mannerisms that makes his acting so convincing. Definitely one of the greatest actors ever! :-D
I absolutely adored him in For Love of Ivy. He oooooooozed class, style & grace.
