If you crash a mini you kind of want as much structural integrity as you can get, it was the 60s it was first designed before the time people actually cared what happened to the crash test dummies.

it is a myth that the wheels cannott stick out from the arch nothing in the mot at all about it you just have to quiz the inspector about it my buddy has it on his truck and he keeps photocopys of the mot regulations about wheels sticking out in the truck to show coppers when they pull him up is well funny to see the look on their faces when he shows them up to being wrong

Depends on the country mate, in holland you can only have the wheels stick out for about 5cm max.
