After reading Kathy's book, I have to say, that I personally do believe that Matt DID love her. I think he has ALOT of issues, and inferiority complex, and what he did was very wrong, however it sounds to me like he really did love her, despite what he did. The fact that at the very very very end, he said 'please stop trying. I don't love you anymore' just speaks volumes to me. Although, at the end, the way it devastated Kathy really broke my heart.
