  • Brilliant!!!! Mr Frank lock-up-your-daughters Spencer tee hee hee

  • When he broke the microphone, i actually collapsed

  • This is hilariously funny! But I think the versatile Martin Clunes could be an even better Frank. Here's hoping for a remake.

  • It's his Vesuvius!

  • Look up Will Frank Spencer's Jessica marry Prince William - The Royal Family would never be the same again.

  • I don't know what's more amazing--Michael Crawford being so hilarious or Christopher Timothy with blond hair!

  • Mr. Frank "Lock Up Your Daughters" Spencer?

    . . . I don't wanna know.

Seriously, though, Michael was the best in that role. No wonder people at the time looked at Frank and went, "HE'S going to be the Phantom of the Opera? You're kidding, right?" :)

  • How on earth did anyone come up with a character like Frank Spencer? The whole thing is just a work of pure genius. A perfect cure for winter blues.

  • i found out today that my dad worked on this episode, he said they were going crazy off stage when they started using the water based foam around the electrics..... lol

michael crawford is so funny!!!! glad they still play it on tv!

  • I can't believe this is the same guy who played the phantom of the opera, they are two complete different characters. Michael Crawford is one talanted guy!!

  • the phantom of the opera\

  • @zosinternational LOL I was waiting for him to start singing Music of The Night xD

  • xD Oh lord, Has me in stiches every time!

  • Priceless! I recently had to sing in a 4-part version of "Early One Morning" during my audition for the local choral society. This episode came to mind and I had a job to keep a straight face. Thankfully I could remember all the words.

  • Good performance from Christopher Timothy.

  • hear hear

until this I'd never seen him in anything except all creatures great and small

  • Gawd, Michael's voice is so high.... higher than I am used to...

  • I LOVE Michael in Hello Dolly, Barnum, Phantom Of The Opera, Some Mothers and as a very gifted and wonderful singer also. I also LOVE his earlier films like The Knack, The Jokers and How I won The War! The man is just supremely talented in every way and sexy as well!

  • The Knack! I got that on DVD, I was wondering why he sounded so familiar... xD

  • lol i remember watching frank spencer with my dad when i was young xD

  • Anyone seen him in Hello Dolly?

  • Yes! He was great, and so was Barbra Streisand.

  • lol classic X]

  • Muahahahahahahaha fun !

    that is priceless !

  • wat? wats on his back?

  • That is his vesuvius

  • From this clip it's hard to believe that his is the powerful tenor voice of the Phantom. He sounds like such a little wimp here. LOL!

  • Different Michael Crawford, I think you'll find.

  • It's the same MC for sure. I actually know him. Very multi-talented guy.

  • yourfaceandmum.

Hmmmm to you too clevercloggs (who has never even met him). They do say ignorance is bliss though, so you just carry on agreeing 'with yourself' to disagree.

Firstly though, I suggest you look at the YT vid interviews on here, where reference is made to his past early acting and 'comedy' career (before he matured and put a little weight on).

Try 'google' too, its all there in glorious colour and print in his fan club sites and wikipedia.

  • it is micheal crawford

  • leehinc.

Thanks for the support that it IS him. He ended up with my first girlfriend for a while (well after she first binned me off for my best mate though, because he had a motorbike and I didn't) LOL.

Met him once and he is a total gentleman.

  • It still makes me laugh when he starts singing "Early one morning.."

The producers hit gold when they cast Michael Crawford as Frank. I can't imagine anyone else playing him.

  • @faf587 norman wisdom was original choice but i cannot see him being as good as michael crawford

  • @faf587 i've allways thought if they chose to modernise this (they wont...luckely) Lee Evans would probably be pretty cool

  • My mistake. It's in there.

  • They're leaving out the best bit where the fireworks in his jacket go off.

  • "You could have had my eye out." XD I ADORE Michael Crawford. Always such a sweet, funny, cute little man!

  • this was funny but you can't beat the rollerskating.

  • And here, is the fantasic man who played The Phantom in the longest running brodway ever! Love Michael Crawford!!!

  • you could have had my eye out there brilliant still make s me laff

  • Can't beat Brittish comedy!! Love their humour!!

  • mmmmmm cant beat it check out my channel profile i love brits

  • i cant belive how is went from being in phanton of the opera to being a comedy actor

  • Wasn't it the other way round?

  • yh it was

  • yh

it was the other way round

  • i heard that michael crawford had to sing that song "early one morning" for an audition when he was younger and he kept singing it too high. :D i love this show!

  • frank spencer is amazing , so harmless yet so funny :)

  • Believe it or not this is how Andrew Lloyde Webber discovered him for the role of THE PHANTOM OF THE OPERA

  • i love this show,my sisters bf can do an impression of him very well.and is really funny

  • his singing is so funny

    lol

  • Just hilarious, I've seen if a few times I never realised that was Christopher Timothy.

  • This scene shows how Frank Spencer could exasperate even nice and patient people.

  • P.S. Does anyone know what Frank says after he says, "I can't go too fast..." ????

Would anyone also know what Mr. Knutworth (sp?) says to Roy after Frank requests the introduction?

  • I think he says "I can't go too fast 'cause my of (something) and my back" lol

  • I think he says "cos of my moon,at the back" and it sounds like Mr Knutworth says "Alright Roy"

  • I think there's been a bit of dialogue cut out here. Doesn't he say "I can't go too fast, because of my Vesuvius. On my back" ? Or something like that. I'm sure he says "Vesuvius" somewhere. I'm thinking back to when I saw it as a kid. I haven't forgotten this scene even after 20 years. LOL

Funny thing. Spike's Trigger in Buffy always had me in stitches because I kept thinking of Frank Spencer. LOL

  • i saw this episode its funny

    lvoe this show

  • Could you believe he played the most incrediable irrirplacable Phantom ever(?)

Would never have believed it if I never saw it =]

    Gosh.

He's so cute =] When he was younger like =]

  • I am mistaken, or is the Actor playing 'Roy' a very young Christopher Timothy, of All Creatures Great and Small fame?

  • No, you're not mistaken - you're spot on!

  • =]

Back when I was younger, when my auntie used to live with me, I would sneak into her bedroom and watch this everyday.

    Absolutely loved it.

I can quote most of these.

I can't wait to buy them on DVD's - when I get enough money haha!

We did a comedey at school and I sang this just like Michael did.

    Have you read his autobiography?

  • You bet I've read it! Heck, I think he could've written a whole book alone on just his SMDAE and "Phantom" experiences - just love him. Wish I could've seen your rendition of this; bet it was cute!

Ha - could you imagine if, as a joke, he or someone would've sent this clip to ALW as an audition for "Phantom"? ;-) LOL!!

  • Lol.

Me doing "ealy one morning" was funny. I can tell you that =P

    ALW has seen it.

If you have the Phantom of the Opera DVD and it has an extention DVD which tells you how they made The show version and the film version.

And they use this series when they say that they had been told about Michael's singing talent =P

  • I wonder if he any incidents like this during phantom?!

  • love how he tries to continue to sing when the fireworks start going off lol

  • I just watched another video of this Some Mothers before watching this video.

This is the first time seeing Michael in this.

    I love it! Laughing alot.

I didn't know Michael could be a clown as he is here!

I am from the states. Is this show out on DVD??

I am not familiar with Michael playing Frank Spencer.

I have heard of him playing Frank, but not familiar.

  • they wouldnt do half the stuff they did back then cos of insurance, he did ALL his own stunts.

  • sooooooooooooooooooo amazing ha ha ha ha

  • one of the funniest shows ever!

  • I luv the part where he tries to spin the mic...

    Crawford = LEGEND!!!

  • BEST EVA I HEART THIS EPISODE

  • Brilliant - what a hoot!! What's also fun is going back and forth between this 1973 clip and those from MC's 1998 PBS concert - ohmigawd! We may never again see the likes of Frank Spencer, but I admit... I'd love it if MC would ever bring him back once in awhile in these concerts... even if just for a few seconds. :-)

  • Vintage Frank. Funny as F*CK.

  • Oh i remeber this, this is the episode where Betty finds out thats shes preghnat.

  • What song is he singing?? Greensleeves??

  • ohhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh!

  • the same one that hayley mills sings in pollyanna...

Early one morning, just as the sun was rising,

    I heard a maid singing in the valley below;

    "O don't deceive me,

    O never leave me!

How could you use a poor maiden so?"

  • Cont'd...Sorry for using the H word but I didn't know we lived in a communist world where people were not allowed to choose what they wanted to like and not like. Brilliant series with a wonderfully versatile actor. If you don't like it the BBC has plenty of other stuff on YouTube to choose from.

  • These are and were funny englander1971. I don't live in the U.K and therefore never got to see these when they were first on so THANK GOD the BBC has these up. You have a right to like what you want but since when do you have a right to SHOVE YOUR VIEWS DOWN ARE THROAT!!! If you don't like something why the Hell do you watch it then! Be respectful of others will you.

  • For Petes own sake, can you please stop being so cheap and showing us re runs which were never funny to begin with.PLEASE SHOW US SOME NEW STUFF,YE GODS!

  • lmaooooooo, hes actually got a brilliant voice thats what makes it so funny to me haha

  • God, I love his expressions so much!!!

  • HILARIOUS!! M.C.'s so much fun to watch in this series! I'd love to get the entire series in the U.S. if it was available vs a few episodes released over here!

  • lol only fools and hores, is that some ort of wierd porn version

  • Hahaha This stuff is hilarious. I can't get enough of this lol

  • Just brilliant

  • thats so funny

  • I agree to. This is great stuff and a show that still ranks as one of the 20 top British comedies of all time so I guess that means we all have bad taste...NOT. Keep posting these because theres a hell of a lot of us who will always enjoy great comedie and the awesome, multi-talented Michael Crawford! To englander1971, like sunlover1965 said if you don't like something why are you stupid enough to keep watching it.

  • Go to the front of the class!DOH!

  • Maybe he would like Michael Crawford to get together with the BBC and produce a new series? I noticed they've been watching a lot of these clips though . . .

  • This one of my favorite esp and I can't believe how young and different Christhoper Timothy is. It's how to believe that he did 'Alll Creature Great and Small just a few years after this. Great stuff BBC! I agree with the other post --if don't like it then why are you watching it?

  • Brillant! Many thanks.

  • great love it

  • There are those that still enjoy this. If you dont like it, dont watch!
