  • someone needs to invest in a welder.

  • hello Dave how is the stove working? oh and Merry Christmas Dave and Family

  • @bobinmissouri

Yes.. the stove still works Bob! Many blessings to you and yours.. Have a wonderful week

  • Those aren't 7/16" bolts, they're 1/4 x 20tpi bolts, which requires a 7/16" socket to tighten.

  • i dont know why but you remind me of dave canterbury :P

  • I appreciate the practicality of this stove but, R U Really going to lug all of this stuff around in the bush?

  • @Dem0D1ck

Honestly it depends on what I'm doing.. I probably wouldn't carry this stove all the time.. but if i was going out with my family.. yep.. I'd bring it because it makes life easier. Will it go in my BOB? Probably not :)

  • the chimney was impressive :)

  • pretty neat...

  • Fyi the inner steel on a old water heater will work well too. Very thick wall so heat retention is good and can be had for free too.

  • Hey, on of you're other videos, you show a very nice folding camp stove. Could you send me a link to a place that sells one of those? I looked a bunch and could'nt find one. Thanks!

  • @CarCraze4

I got it from Campingsurvival (DOT) com.. Hope that helps

  • @BushcraftOnFire Ok thanks

  • i have seen something simular to this using an old metal mail box already has a door and the chimmney came out the back on top where its flat

  • This is pretty innovative. Thanks for the great idea.

  • You did again! cheap is more!

    kmn

  • looks good. you may have thought of this already, but getting old ash out of it may be troublesome

  • The bottom lip is only 1" Josep... It's pretty easy to scrape the ashes out.. No big problem at all

  • could you use a 5 gallon metal bucket with a lid for this? thanks 5*'s

  • Doc...

You sure "can" (pardon the pun) Just make sure that the top fits on tightly.. Let us know how it works..

  • I sure will. Thanks for the reply!

  • Dave,

I have a nice piece of Saguaro rib that would make a great handle on that damper!! Let me know. . .

    Jake

  • How do you think it would hold up to the heat Bro? I'm willing to try it if it won't combust in my hand.. LOL!

  • I think it will be alright, I have made a few tobacco pipes out of them as gifts, and they seem to hold up pretty well.

  • Wow my shelter sucks compared to yours ...Thanks for the ideas and the vid .

  • the tin can won't last a week

  • that stove has a great reputation to up hold.

thanks for this video dave this is exactly what i am going to do with my semi perm shelter in my personal space!!!

  • Can't wait 2 see it working

  • Hah Hah ha... Davey old boy you are the cats meow. A stellar plan and a stellar stove. Very impressive. Oh and speaking of forum inside messages, I haven't forgot the lip balm, just letting it lay fallow for a bit. :)

  • @pappyhighlife

My son made me a neck pouch.. and guess what the ONLY thing I have in it right now is... LOL!

  • Has Monster replaced Mountain Dew as the official Pathfinder beverage? ;)

  • I like the idea.

I've been looking at those 20L "Mini Kegs". I thought they could be used like this.

  • Now...THIS is an awesome idea. On to part two!!

  • Excellent tutorial. I look forward to seeing it in use. I could also see it being used for a hide smoker with very little modification due to your flue. Great work, thank you.

  • great work with simple stuff.

  • awesome dave

you should name the stove "the canterbury"

unless that would be weird LOL

  • I like it. I'm always a big fan of improvised gear and stuff. I like the use of a heavy steel container for the stove.

  • Dave, you area master fabricator. That's looking to be a dandy stove. On to Part 2...

  • Nice work with what you have brother, it will do just fine!

  • I like the idea and the capacity is needed for the size of the shelter it's going in.

  • As stated by others this is an excellent idea. I am glad I saw that video today. I am even more glad you posted it. I will definitely keep that in mind when I want to build a small wood stove at a very affordable price. you consider a trap door at the bottom so that you could remove the ashes?

  • I think I would have chosen something larger, like an oil drum, and oriented it upright, that way its still got a relatively small footprint in the shelter, but has more room for a bigger fire, and if the chimney is offset off the side, you have a good cooking surface. Also, though it would cost more, just using a piece of ducting for the chimney would have been a quicker way to get er done.

  • @nickbownz

The shelter is only 7'X4.5' and doesn't really need that large of a stove. As for the chimney.. I could have used ducting but it took about 30 minutes to build the chimney.. and was fun.

  • hey, that's why it's your stove not mine, :D either way it's a very cool idea, major kudos,

  • thats cool dave

shows what a bit of recycling can do

  • monster can is a nice touch!!

  • wow thats gonna be a pretty cool stove dave

  • dave, if you took a semi-small steel barrel, you could have a stove with a cooking surface. Of course you could always cut one end off and weld a flat chunk if steel to do that as well.

  • Yep, Dave should lay off the Monster, it's not good for him. It's just false energy.

  • This...is...AWESOME!!!

  • Really neat idea!!!

  • first!
