  • Whats the first song?

  • @nirvanafan91ify Pow R. Toc H.

  • LSD is just a crazy drug, made by the CIA you know. But a proper dose allows you to see, at the cost of your sanity.

  • Must be the most attractive band ever, haha.

  • syd was right. this is a bit noisy.

  • LOVE THE FLOYD BUT AS EVER POSH PICKS. GRR

  • "Nobody knows where you are,, how near nor how faar"

  • My band is going to cover Pow. R. Toc H.

  • What tune were they playing that starts at 9:34?? I can recognize it at all..

  • Boo-- I want to see part 2 but....

"The Pink Floyd and Syd Barrett Story - Part 2/5"

This video contains content from EMI, who has blocked it in your country on copyright grounds.

  • original human beat box , never given proper credit .

  • what a bunch of middle class twerps

  • @MickeyLove01 People said Barrett was mad or LSD destroyed and yet his 2 solo albums show a superior song writers. PF didn't want him anymore so he carried on writing gems that have never been equaled.

Dominoes is a piece of genius. Why would he WANT to remain in a music industry that began less and less with each decade till NOW? He had a lucky escape before people soured his talent and money men to whored him out. Waters became a tit and Gilmore lost his hair. Barrett got peace and quiet.

  • @thatsthewayitgoes09 Thanks for the essay. I don't see the correlation between being a middle class twerp and your reply. In my opinion, Barrett showed initial talent but his solo stuff was annoying. I will refresh my memory with a quick listen of the title to which you refer.

  • @MickeyLove01 "Thanks for the essay. I don't see the correlation between being a middle class twerp and your reply".

I write anything I want and how do you know I'm middle class? Just because I wrote something with care and understand the subject? Oh dear another angry Irish prick troll! Coming from someone who wrote GARBAGE poetry on his channel I find it funny you think you're expert on me or Syd's.

If you don't like his music THEN FUCK OFF. Write about incest because you clearly love it.

  • @thatsthewayitgoes09 Thanks for your reply. Youtube is for people to offer an opinion regardless of whether it agrees with yours or not. I have no idea why you appear so angry at what has been said but I couldn't really care less anyway. You should also learn the difference between poem and limericks. And what is with the americanisms? You sound like sound like a right dumb fuck.

  • @thatsthewayitgoes09 I just listened to it again and can conclude that Barrett's songs would have perhaps been more suited to have been poems.

  • @thatsthewayitgoes09 Yeah, the best part of Pink Floyd will always be Syd Barrett and Rick Wright.

And that's the way it goes!

  • @siouxie921 I just think as soon as "Animals" came along Waters had formed the idea he WAS PF and by "Final Cut" he was writng dreary anti - middle class 'grey clouds' music and even when he'd left he tried to stop the rest carrying on the group. The only person who could truely say they were PF was Syd because he's the only one who never acted like he was the beginning and end of it.

Perhaps on 1 LSD trip he saw the future with Justin Bieber and all the other crap? Decision made for him.....

  • @MrsGenitals Yeah...if your rich

  • WHATS THE NAME OF THE SONG AT THE BEGINNIG WHERE ROGER SCREAMS VERY WEIRD ????????????

  • @slkmercedez It's "Pow R. Toc H." from the album "The Piper At The Gates Of Dawn"

  • Rodger! You lie!

  • Awesome video! Beautiful story. My favourite Pink Floyd music were done with Syd Barrett.

  • Who ever dislikes this video fuck off ur not real

  • "needed me to leave" lol. OUCH!

  • @sleestack808 yeah but how much balls does it take someone to say that! he has my respect

  • @sieuminh mine too

  • 04:59 Is That Roger? :D

  • He reached to the secret too soon... :(

  • Whats the name of the song at the beginning?

  • @ThePinkPigFloyd The very first one at the beginning is Pow R. Toc H. Awesome song!

  • @ThePinkPigFloyd The name on the song is Pow R Toc H

  • Dam drugs love em and hate them

  • Thanks!

  • pow r toc H

  • ice cream tastes good if you eat it soon

  • drug induced breakdowns are brootal

  • i wish there were photo's of syd during the last few years of his life. i'm curious as to what he looked like.

  • There are a lot of similarities in Syd and Brian Wilson's lives!

  • The start of this videoclip is from which song/recording ... anyone???

  • @MosquitoFilm i'm pretty sure it's Pow. R. Toc. H

  • @MosquitoFilm "pow r toc h" It's from their first CD, "Pipers at the Gates of Dawn"

  • syd invented beatboxing

  • What's the name of the song at 08:33?

  • @amaister93

Lucy leave - recorded in 1965.

  • Hongkongscene- Thanks for sharing. And yes, all bro's and sisters, Syd was a genius. The question we should all be asking, is how can we (society) prevent geniuses from feeling alienated and destroying themselves?

Whether the genius be mathematical, or artistic/creative, or whatever. And you know, so many millions of people seem to think that art, and artists, don't really matter. That all that matters is "the bottom line" and money. Well, art and artists matter. Especially the talented.

  • Waters no where near sucks

  • They talk about him as if he were dead at the time. Waters sucks.

  • The beginning was freaking entertaining and whoever it was at the beginning looked a lot like Carl Saga.

  • Comment removed

  • can someone tell me what song is playing at 9:31?

  • @dudebearpig05 Yeah, I'm looking for that song too! I've heard all studio albums and many bootlegs but I just can't find it. If someone knows song at 9:31 I would be really grateful! Peace

  • Who the fuck 'dislikes' this? Lamest 11 people in the world! haha.Agree to the brim with the BBC over simplification and LBjim (re: royalties) - I'd recommend Rob Chapman's book " A very irregular head" . Just saw an exhibition here in London of Syd's art/ letters. Heartwrenchingly amazing.

  • Dave Gilmour always made sure that Syd got paid for his royalities, that is a class act looking out of an ex-band mate...

  • can anybody tell me what's the song played at 5:24 by Bob Klose???

  • @thebossofitri It's not an actual song, it's just a 12 bar blues.

  • no deal BBC.

"drug induced breakdown" is a smug oversimplification.

  • @jamesa4050 So true. It's just another example of how the media and large parts of society are uncomfortable talking honestly about mental illness. A lot of people close to him and mental health professionals now think that Syd had schizophrenia, which people usually have a genetic predisposition for. I don't believe that Syd's LSD/drug use was the cause of his mental illness but it would probably have exacerbated his symptoms.

  • @lilymacsification ughhh now i have to look up jamesa4050's comment lol

  • @lilymacsification I can tell you from both personal experience and what I've read that LSD can trigger early onsets of schizophrenia. I had a friend as a teenager that I used to take acid with....around 19 he was taken out of school and ended up in a hospital because his parents said he was acting violent and having delusions. He took quite a bit of acid but his parents also said they had a family history of schizophrenia. I've read this can happen sometimes with those two things.

  • @lilymacsification 100% WRONG! His sister-in-law has said that LSD was what caused his mental breakdown. She went onto say what an evil drug it is to turn somebody like Syd into what he became at the end of 1967. Don't think it was anything mental because it was the drugs, simple as that. Look at it as a cautionary tale.

  • she had also stated that he may have had aspergers. so I'm, supporting what lilymacsification, going to point out that it was plainly stated that L.S.D probably "exacerbated his symptoms". please don't speak without experience when it comes to drugs. do as you will with other topics, but, it makes your "evidence" less valid if you have never experienced such things.

  • @larr393 Well the operative word here is may have had it. And as for your comment about experience, I've never done LSD but I have known friends who have done it, and I was able to see what Syd went through. So to put it another way, bugger off. Have a nice day.

  • shine on you crazy diamond.. syd barret <3

  • I bet syds cat has had some good times on LSD

  • @HareKrisna555 vibin'!

  • i wish i lived in England or at least somewhere in europe. i think i could musically relate to people there better than here in USA. i know just about all the chords of pink floyd songs on guitar and i think i could impress some british folks haha

  • @freddiebarry93 You will find a great deal more classic rock and blues fans here in the states than you will in Europe. Unfortunately, the techno scene is moving through that continent like an unstoppable tsunami.

  • @flockofseagulls87 well i guess it depends. right now people my age (16 and 17ish) are into pretty much just rap music. i mean im not gonna hate on it but it sucks they can't open their mind to other sorts of music

  • @freddiebarry93

Both the USA and the UK had their geniuses. The Doors, Jimi Hendrix (although it took the UK to recognise his talent) and a great many others.

  • @GhibliFan1 yeah totally. i'm a big fan of The Doors and Jimi Hendrix. the grateful dead too

  • Rick hit a cord there about not seeing your friend grow up. My best friend went crazy with magic mushrooms, acid and speed and has spent the last 20 years in institutions. Like Syd, he is also a genius, a poet and an artist.

  • @freddiebarry93 I wanna live somewhere else because Rock music has gave way to Rap and uh, I don't rap!

  • @freddiebarry93 England welcomes you. Educated follower of music?... The Motherland is all ears!

  • @freddiebarry93 of course pink floyd is better than every band in usa, pink floyd is better than everything..

  • @freddiebarry93 i feel you, i hate the u.s its filled with crooks and crap laws

  • @americanmisfit1 Yeah, because no other country has crooks or crap laws.

  • @americanmisfit1 agree it's filled with crooks. Also seems like majority of people are materialistic. There are some good people here though. Not all Americans are the same.

  • The song is called "Pow R. Toc H.".

This song is off of Pink Floyd's "The Piper at the Gates of Dawn" album.

  • What is the name of the song in the beginning?

  • whats the opening song's name, i cant find that video.

  • the narrator sounds a bit like Nico

  • pink floyd look cool as fuck in the late 1960s.

  • Excellent documentary on Syd & PF that his sister, Rosemary gave her blessing to and encouraged him to watch (even tho he did not enjoy it!). Kudos to David Gilmour, who continues to carry the flame by having Syd's music reach more and more generations!

  • While Pink Floyd's best albums were about Syd (in my opinion) does anyone feel that the rest of the band kind of exploited him?

  • @ronscadon Dark Side of the Moon was dedicated to him. He wasnt exploited by the band when they made that album... they made it for him. It just so happens that it was their finest album

  • @TheCTh19 what no? dsotm wasn't made for syd, wish you were here was.

  • @ronscadon exploited? they kept him rich with royalties his whole life

  • oh yeah?....WELLI'MUH KING BEEEEEYA.

  • 5:34

  • 1:27 to 1:37 jammin' the fuck out in the studio! i love this stuff!

  • there was no f*cking illness, Syd had no diseases at all. It's a big joke they put on him to declare him shizofrenic. The PF & SB Story is just disgusting. It's not the right picture of Syd. This video should be banned, thumb it down people

  • @MrScarleteagle Indeed! Syd Barrett was completely sane and had absolutely no problems at all! He just disappeared from the public world to troll everyone!

  • @MrScarleteagle i think the guys of floyd know a little better -- don´t you think they can see the difference between someone going down and someone just pretending!

  • @MoveOverCasanova Barrett went to the Fulbourn psychiatric hospital in Cambridge, there he was examined by specialist and psychiatrists on shizophrenia, the result were negative. Don't you think that such things are not important ? There are other people beside the band members who also have known Barrett and they claim different things, they were never involved in making this video. Do some research please.

  • @MrScarleteagle i do my research here, that should satisfy my need to know about that topic --

  • @MrScarleteagle ...i meant that i appreciate informations from people like you, i do not meekly take every word in a you tube docu for written in stone truth!!

  • Como se limo este tipo que lastima...

  • whats the opening song?

  • @Whahli

    Pink Floyd - Pow R. Toc H.

From the album: 1967 - The Piper At The Gates Of Dawn

  • @Whahli Pow R. Toc H. from the Piper at the gates of dawn

  • whats the song at the beggining?

  • @pulsatingremedy

Dude, thats Pow R. Toc H.

  • @Brando2600

    Oh shit you are right.

  • @kmarshall08welding the song is astromine domine, think thats the spelling

  • @kmarshall08welding astromine domine

  • @ancientdan Its Astronomy Domine.. :)

  • he was a genoius the other used his him like aircraf carrier to make money specially moore

  • THE TITLE OF THE SONG AT 9:30 Pleaaaaaase !

  • I think this is an improvisation but some of that sound is what became Saucer full of Secrets. Particularly on Be Careful with that Axe,, and the title track.

  • It is true that Pink floyd really only made there break through after Sid went crazy. The band was left with out his lead and had to draw on all the creativity that they had .. and changed the music world for ever. the rest is history

  • @MichaelLebury There single See Emily Play was a hit in the UK and their debut went to N0.6 but it wasn't until Dark Side Of The Moon that Pink Floyd were discoverd world wide

  • whats the song in the opening

    ???

  • @joseissick12

    Pow R. Toc H.

  • this is very good thanks for uploading i love pink floyd

  • @auralexstasy most of Waters inspiration came from Barret's life and personality. Stop being a jerk, lets love every member of the greatest band ever. If Waters was that great he would have done it again after he left which he didn't. A band is a band don't try to understand that.

  • Waters is the key writing genius, Gilmour is the key guitar sound of Floyd. Syd is overrated. Floyd's best material does not include Syd. Their most acid stuff is their most popular stuff. The essential Floyd is: Meddle, Animals, Dark Side, WYWH, and Wall. Syd's most important contribution is his dominant personality and leadership that got the band to square one; his art is inferior to Waters/Gilmour.

  • @auralexstasy No Syd means no Pink Floyd. Without him, they wouldn't have ever come together and formed the band. If by inferior you mean there's not as much of it, then you're right. If that's not what you mean go fuck yourself.

  • @cheeseeater09, earinsound, et al

Syd's paintings, music, and lyrics do reveal artistic genius. He had great POTENTIAL. BUT, his potential was not realized, and it is largely because his genius made his psyche vulnerable to injury. The Floyd sound loved by millions is devoid of the Barrett sound. IT IS UNFAIR TO WRITERS OF THE FLOYD MASTERPIECES TO CREDIT SYD BARRETT AS THE GENIUS BEHIND IT. Formative influence, front man, and object of later artistic material Yes. On par with later Floyd, No.

  • @auralexstasy as true as it may be that syd had noconnection with the more famous "pink floyd sound" he did in fact have a large impact on the theme of pink floyd's music. dark side of the moon and wish you were here BOTH were written about syd going crazy. So, no he may not have credit for most of the writing of Pink Floyd music, but he definately has to have credit for being the inspiration for virtually all floyd songs.

  • @auralexstasy Understand what ya sayin, but don't ever forget that it was Syd who (even after his departure) inspired the others to go on to greater things. Without Syd The Pink Floyd would not have existed and we may have simply had a couple more r n b bands in their place. That might have been interesting, but it would have meant a world without Pink Floyd. Now theres a horrible thought ;)

  • @auralexstasy

That's your opinion. Syd is not overrated. That's my opinion. And the rest of PF would agree, otherwise this documentary would never have been made.

  • Does anyone know where I can find the full version of the opening footage of Pow R Toc H?

  • and i consider my self a true Floyd fan....never even heard of Bob Klose...shame on me

  • Poor Rog...at 2:09 he almost breaks down in tears when he says "express my love for him" that must have been hell to see your best friend destroyed before your eyes!

  • A genius.

  • They asked Jagger if Exile would have been different without the drugs and how it would have been different. He said, "that's subjective." How do you quantify that? I used a significant amount of LSD between 1968 and 1971. Many friends and acquaintances did also. LSD was indiscriminant in who it effected. Certainly a %% of "susceptible" people "flipped out" but I know of a number of strong, and charismatic people who "flipped out" too. There were alot of casualties of LSD "the cart or the horse?

  • whats the name of the song during the intro? Anyone know? Please tell me if you do!

  • @SauravMarasini pow r toc h

  • Can anyone find the video of the live version of pow r. toc.h?

  • Comment removed

  • God send Syd Barrett Roger Waters Nick Mason Rick Wright And David Gilmour TO change the world

  • Does anyone else recognize that Syd and Roger invented the first Beatbox? Need we say ... The Pink Floyd fortelling the future. First rate brilliance.

  • HOW TO BE CALLED IN ORDER TO START VIDEO SONG

  • "Remember when you were young" The amazing thing is, he was still only 29 when this song was written.

  • ... what if Syd Barrett had started a band with Brian Jones... ? ... OH, that would've been awesome!!

  • the name of a song from the early stories?

  • Awesome segment! How does this have no comments yet?

  • Wackiest opening ever... God bless him, he was a true genius!

  • syd barrett would be nothing if not work the work that roger and david developed didn't still stand the test of time so well. There's a reason why people don't list to piper like dark side, the wall and wish you were here. It's because it wasn't pink floyd yet.

  • I love how Roger always says that Syd had a "bit of TIgger in him!" that he was always bouncing!

  • ROGER: its a really good song???? are you kidding me??? TALK ABOUT GREATEST UNDERSTATEMENT OF ALL TIME!!

  • awesome

  • It's been forty five years and I still enjoy psychedelic music.

  • @Nguli34689 hellz yeah

  • @Nguli34689 so then you love the early deep purple then?

  • The very same happened to another British great in the form of Peter Green of Fleetwood....

  • @1Joeyknuckles Peter Green is prettymuch on of the most underrated guitaritsts ever.....Clapton Wishes he was as good as petey

  • @harveydents Dude, Rory Gallagher is the most underrated guitarist. And probably one of the best guitarists ever.

  • the first beat box ever done ......

  • thanks for this!

  • The way they keep saying "was" when he was alive when this was made seems wrong to me.

  • i memoire of people that allows themselfs to be diferent, and to change, the world never stop why shoul human do it,LONG LIVE SID BARRETT,NO SID NO PINK FLOYDS

  • man nick looks so different without the handlebars

  • why leave all good people to early?

  • @ThePeeterd So they can be missed.

  • Hey! @everyoneisondope, the song is "effervescent elephant" by Syd

  • somebody please tell me the song being played at 8.34...

  • @TheMadcap92 The tune is called "Lucy Leave". It was a demo song from 1966.

  • 6:16 what did roger say about london? its the macker?

  • @jimzer I think he said that it was the Mecca, maybe referring to it as kind of THE place for musicians

  • @jimzer

London was like the Mecca of music.

  • @Dad4lillily was?IS

  • So incredible!! It's amazing how many ppl think that Pink Floyd- known for frat parties and number one hits- is just that. This should be a requirement to hearing any other Floyd. It is a deep story. Far beyond guitar solos and commerical b s.

  • In my opinion Pink Floyd And The Beatles had the Greatest stories in Music History

  • What is the song that is playing at 7:50 when its showing Syd's trip?

  • Para Mi puede ser considerada como una de las mejores banda del mundo...

  • what's the name of the song in the beginning?

  • @Linnung the song is called Pow R. Toc H. its from their first album the piper at the gates of dawn.

  • one thing is absolute. This shows that Roger Waters is not a complete asshole.

  • @kermicheo thanks for saying that
