  • Is the the "Cell Broadband engine" capable of delivering the next Generation in gaming for multi-platform games in the PS4, like the Samaritan Demo. to acheive the Samaritan demo you need 2.5 GFLOPS to run!

I know the processor plays a role in gaming but which is it!!!

Been waiting for the next generation in gaming for awhile now!!!

  • The current usage of Developers right now is not even 100% percent of the proccessing power of the Cell. Only maybe 28%-30%. Just think for a second if someone starts a game using every part of the processor. It will take long, but hey .. lets see game like this. Right.

    PC Sucks ass. :P.

  • @gMemo92 That is ridiculous. Even if developers did only use a fraction of what Cell can do (which is not true to begin with), its limit is not "unknown" as you fanatics like to suggest. The Cell processor used on the PS3 console, with one PPE and six available SPEs, has a peak performance of 179.2 GFLOPS.

In comparison, a single $70 Radeon HD6670 graphics card alone can achieve up to 768 GFLOPS, about 4.3 times as much processing power.

  • @trololol111111 pc ftw :)

  • @trololol111111 Have you seen Uncharted 3? That makes a huge difference.

  • because of the cell broadband engine the ps3 is more than two times powerful than xbox 360

  • we keep hearing about the possibilities of this console but we still havent seen even close to its full potential

  • One of the reasons I wanted to get a PS3, for the possibilities.

  • Ah such a powerful console for it's time, but even now it's still the most powerful CPU in any console! Hopefully Nintendo's custom Tri-Core IBM processor that's being used inside the Wii U supercede even the processing capabilities of the PS3's Cell Broadband Engine...........

  • @HiDefTutorials There is no doubt the Wii U processor will outperform Cell, since today the latter is a six-year-old low-power $38 processor.

But just FYI, the rumors I've seen lately point to Nintendo using a quad-core IBM POWER7 processor, rather than a custom three-core model as first suggested.

  • Quantum computing > Cell Broadband Engine > Pretty much every other CPU

  • @1337RussianCoDPlay3r You are so wrong, so very wrong.

  • Whats the peice of music in the background? Im sureeeeee ive head it somewhere else..

  • its 2005 technology

  • @ultimatetoturial56 2005 technology way...ahead of its time with a lot of consideration put into it's hardware.

  • @tazss159 do you think the NGP (CPU) is very powerful thn PS3? of curse NGP mde 2011 tech

  • @ultimatetoturial56 NGP is weaker then PS3.

  • @tazss159 but NGP is better thn PS2?

  • @ultimatetoturial56

    NGP CPU: Quad core

Cell Broadband Engine: 8 cores. With 1 locked core so a total of 9 cores.

8 cores > 4 cores unless 4 core architecture is amazing.

  • @1337RussianCoDPlay3r i wish they make ps4

  • @1337RussianCoDPlay3r Cell has one core and eight SIMD units (seven on the PS3), not eight cores. Also, the PSP2 will use a low-TDP, low-power ARM mobile processor. Even though it has four cores, it's nowhere near the frequency or the performance of a x86/PowerPC quad-core procesor.

  • @ultimatetoturial56 i have a gaming pc.. and the 2005 tech ps3 and uncharted 2 to looks on par with games on pc... and my rig was bought about 2010-2011 all parts of it...

  • 4 pl ( + ME ) are smarter :D

  • "Is smarter than you" haha lol this remains old apple comparisons with their G3 processors.

  • @NewLynxChannel Just, google PS3 iSuppli and on the first result you'll see ;)

  • The PLAYSTATION 3 is beast the most powerful gaming system ever made.

  • PS3's cell is probably one of the most powerful CPU's in the world. The reason PS3 is being held back is the stupid RSX chip which is basically a 7900GTX which is almost 4 generations behind... If it had something similar to lets say a 9600GT it would've gotten much better looking games. Unfortunately the same is with Xbox 360. It has a nice 3x 3.2GHz (CELL Based) CPU but a crappy ATI Xenos which is really a X1900... Wouldn't be surprised if PS4 had CELL as well.

  • @PS2Gameplays you don't know what you're really talking about, the Cell CPU (although it used to be powerful) it's nothing more than a 38$ CPU (iSuppli. com) with 241M transistors (comparing to a mid-range Phenom II CPU with 758M trans.) and a 45$ RSX GPU (7800GTX based). The reason why games look so damn good is because they are EXTREMELY optimized (e.g. Uncharted 2 that *I think* even won 2009's best graphics in all categories, GOW III etc.). Anyways PS3 ROCKS FTW!

  • @TudyCoolboy Extrememly optmized. Don't be retarded. Uncharted 2 is actually not properly optimized. Saying the PS3 is weak and saying it's games look good because they're optmized lol that's very very absurd. Look at God of War 3 40-50% of the PS3 power, Uncharted 2 may use all the SPE's but it's not a properly optimized code. Uncharted 3 will possibly have a better code but who knows. PS3 is indeed very powerful.

  • @PS2Gameplays also, the Cell is meant to perform very well on games but a PC's CPU is meant to do a lot more complex and diverse calculations. But still at only 299$ (even cheaper if it's used like on eBay) you get an amazing Blu-Ray player, a multimedia monster and an amazing HD gaming console :D.

  • This sysytem can be pushed alot further but developers are not using the technology to the fullest.

Espcially now a days when games are multi platform. They kinda make it standard for all platforms and dont want one to outshine the other

  • Admiral Hacket

  • @mathhenr You havent' disproved my point about the "procie-dependency" of most console games(port or not, as long as it has a counter-part to the console side).

  • @mathhenr Have you tried it? Well, if it wasn't a port, several tests were conducted to find out what resolution BC2 wants. The result came out with 720p. Isn't that what consoles run on?

Well, the port factor isn't my specific problem. I have a 2.53GHz (stock clock)(t9400)(6mb cache) C2D procie. I can run Crysis Wars, COD4, CODWAW, MW2 and Valve games properly(Like everyone, I can run valve games at max, thanks to the source engine).

  • @mathhenr I honestly believe in what you've said but, BC2 is one of the games that are CPU dependent. GTA IV can also be part of that category 'cause back in the quad-core era, only a few can run it at max. Intel created i cores so everything went well again.

personal experience and from forums: BC2 doesn't like C2Ds. It prefers quads. That's why the people who bought expensive C2D cores are having a hard time.

  • This is one of the main reasons why PC gaming "is getting" ditched. Most of the ported games from consoles rely heavily on the CPU than the GPU. Thus, the GPU isn't being utilized to it's maximum potential.

Heck, most games, if not all, don't support Nvidia's phsyX technology.

  • PS3 kicks ass. Sorry X360, you were amazing one day. Not now.

  • The 360 has 10mb of embedded dram dedicated to the gpu on top of 512mb of shared system memory but that's not a problem for ps3 since the cpu's 256mb of xdr dram can runs circles around even the best competing memory types today in overall performance which makes up for having less dedicated memory for the gpu because of the xdr dram memory architectural design.

  • Comment removed

  • However the 360's gpu architectural design on it's own is more powerful then ps3's gpu architectural design on it's own however the cell helps ps3's gpu architecture by taking on a large portion of the gpus workload allowing ps3's gpu architecture to achieve a higher level of performance with the combined effort of cell.

  • The 360's tri core cpu architecture design is based off the cell's ppe core only leaving out the most important part of cell architecture the spes.

  • i love this video

  • it is a city

  • why ps3 dont have broadband!!!!?

  • So sad that X360 processor is as fast as the almighty CELL...

  • na mate its half as powerful, 72 gigaflops floating point to 33 giga flops floating point hahahahah

  • so sad to be you. go play halo..enjoy its cartoon-like graphics :))

  • @spencerGTR, not every X360 user plays H3 ;-)

  • true dat
