@avipaulweinstein The fade to light Of Love is "You can't resist you can't defeat yeah the light of love. If you want me you gotta see yeah the light of love".

@Promoagent If anyone conspired against Bolan in the past, they won't succeed in the future. Bolan was never the greatest voice or the greatest guitarist, but he is the greatest enigma since Jesus Christ, with as much talent for connecting with the human spirit.
@trolgar my boy born in 95 and in agreement with you. One of the best parts of parenting is turning him on to new (old) music. Keep discovering! Write to me for more if you want. Thinking you've checked Jeff Buckley??? Nick Lowe (Nick the Knife album?) Everything Elvis Costello, Psychedelic Furs, Smiths....there's so much. I go back to the 14th century in search of great "new" stuff for my ears... Keep up the hunt!
I grew up listening to T-Rex thanks to my mum being a bolan obsessive x) love it. Anyone know what vinyl it was that had a picture of marcs face on it in trippy colours, and the otherside was blue?
@MarcBolaninmyheart altho he was way before my time i can say he was gorgeous from watching the videos bless him and as watched some videos of him on my sisters glam rock video thats how i knew about him at the age of 5 and he is 1 of my favorite singers of all time so tragic he did when and how he did :( REST IN PEACE MARC BOLAN XXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXX <3 <3 <3 <3
@ZLUGGOi, he was beautiful [i mean unbelievably gorgeous] around the time of hot love, metal guru-but here he just looks bloated & dead eyed from the drugs & booze he was doing in 74..even the way he moves looks ungainly-less boppin elf, more like gary glitter..
So now YOU are going to tell me what to think? It is all a matter of taste. And I like Gary Glitter. I don' t care what people say. The song remains the same.
Great song. Again ahead of its time. Bolan, thanks to Gloria's influence, got into black music a year before Bowie, just like he got into glam rock before Bowie. Marc WAS the original. And is that Marc rapping at the end? Amazing!
YES, Yes, yes...I said it before WAy Ahead of the pack of rocknrollers of the day! That is Marc rapping and he did it without swearing and it adds to the track!!! Love Him every moment and this vid makes me laugh with joy.
Classic mid period T.Rex with Marcs distorted guitar and the rythm section of Mickey Steve and Davey Lutton sounding really tight and funky. Marcs interstellar soul sound at its best. I first saw the film clip on Sound Unlimited a Saturday morning music show in Australia and remember reading it was made in Germany.
This is a fab record and Marc and Gloria give it some. All this talk about Marc should have done this or that is totally irrelevant. The guy was his own creation, he did what HE wanted not what others wished he had done. I applaud him for trying new avenues in music.
I like other period Marc alot, but this song KICKS ASS!!! What a freaking groove! I could definitely slither down the sidewalk to this. You can totally grind your body to this. Well, maybe everybody can't. you gotta have a kinda slutty soul aspect to your persona. Marc and Gloria bonded over that part of themselves.
At this point, Marc had totally lost the awesome T. Rex sound of 70-74. Thanks no doubt to Glorias influence. The funky-soul turn in Marc's style ruined it for him. Things would only get worse in 1975 when he gained all the weight and spent the year in the US. If you look at his performances from those days they were just awful. Still T. Rex is one of my top 5 favorite rock bands of all time. And 1977 saw a turnaround in his music and popularity. I miss him.
No way. This tune "burns it down" so hard! He needed to change. Everybody was telling him he needed to branch out more. His 70-74 schtick was way played out. People were bored with it. They were like, "Enough already, show us you have some substance too." And he did! and his 75 persona was cool too. The Dreamy Lady videos are total porn-Marc. If he went directly from 74 to his 77 stuff, people woulda said it was still too similar. he needed stuff in between. so there.
I LOVE the sound of the clavichord Gloria's playing! Stevie Wonder used one on "Superstition" and Zeppelin did on "Trampled Underfoot". I guess it was all the rage in the mid seventies. I'd love to have one. Funky baby!
Had Bolan hung on to Visconti as his producer, and gotten cocaine out of his life, I think he (and Gloria) could have been much more successful with his plastic soul music. After all, look what Visconti did for Bowie with 'Young Americans' just a few months later. His Zip-Gun period really did have some cool songs...they're just not produced well.
Happy birthday Marc!!! xxxxxxxxxxxxxx
