  • My good buddy gave me a hundred pounder, and I can't stop hitting it! Small targets are genius, when I would bat in baseball I always looked at the team logo until the ball came around. I've only been punching this bag for two weeks, but these people need to know that if their legs aren't as tired as their arms they aren't doing it right.

  • That bags set perfect for head shots, maybe nobody who said about the bag being too high noticed the longer bag in the background? Good tips, im defo going to make a few target area, also have you wrapped tape round the bag for protection or is it just damaged?

  • @TheMartybhoy Yes I had several bags of different heights mounted, good eyes on noticing the other bag, the tape was wrapped around the bag because it had a small hole where sand would leak out

  • Great Coach..thanks

  • isn't that bag too high?

  • @swiv2d too high for who? where are the bag mounting height guide line and rule books. What if I wanted to hit it with some uppercuts?

  • @FightChannel Whoa dude don't take it seriously, it was just a question since i'm looking to buy a punchbag for the first time and I'm pretty much as you guessed it a noob.

  • @swiv2d not at all it was not taken seriously,

  • @swiv2d

it actuzlly is a little bit too high, if you put it a little lower it's not going to swing all the time wich will be a lot less annoying, also if you put it lower you might practice some kicks

  • @TrinityMusic00 The bag was hung high primarily for uppercuts, which worked just great for me at that time. There is no specific rule on the height a bag should be mounted, it depends on the user and his or her needs.

Kicking is not an option for me also.

  • @FightChannel

Ow ok thanks for the respond man! The video really helped me out too.

  • very articulate and specific instructions. good tips

  • Good video, i will remember that next time i make some bag traning

  • very helpful, thank you. =)

  • thumbs up if you punch the bag so much that you punch in your sleep

  • one of the best videos ever... true boxer trainer

  • awesome video! :)

  • good tips man thx

  • They actually were not that good for wraps, I ended up just cutting them for the knuckle part and just used regular 180's wraps with the gel padding on the knuckles.

  • @FightChannel Hey man im 13 years old and im getting a punching bag how heavy do u think i should get my bag plz answer , Nice vid m8 :)

  • I notice you have those "quickwraps" on in your video. How are those working for you? Respect from Brooklyn.

  • thanks buddy really helped out great video and tips I was wondering do you do boxing for real

  • This guy is 100% correct when he says treat the bag as if it was an opponent. I'm the only person in the boxing gym that bobs, weaves and duck after I plant my feet and throw a combo on the heavy bag. I'm also the only person that circles the bag while doing all this. Not even the MMA Fighters, or the Pro Boxers do this at this particular gym. I think I'm on my way to something.

  • Good solid tips

  • ggod vid man !

  • @FightChannel ok thanx I appreciate the help

  • @FightChannel cool thanks. Oh and the gloves I have are pretty thin bag gloves. Would getting a heavier pair be a good idea as well or does it not matter as much?

  • @RUT600 Yes it will be of greater benefit to have a real pair of bag gloves 14 to 18 OZ depending on the size of your hands.

  • @FightChannel good vid. If u could answer a question I would appreciate it. I'm a wrestler and I don't know too much about boxing.my dad bought a bag and I want to start using it to keep in shape during off season, but every time I punch it I roll my wrist and it hurts like crap. Should i wrap it before I work on the bag or what?

  • @RUT600 Yes wraps are a good idea, they are not a magic solution but will help. Pay attention to the wrist area when wrapping. Also work on not hitting the bag so hard, but focus on hitting it fast. Some bags are harder than others.

  • if i buy a punching bag, is that the best way for me to learn how to fight? (for self defence etc)

  • hey fightchannel, every time i do left/right hooks i hurt my deltoids. i had no problem with this when i was younger because my muscles weren't as developed as they are now

any tips or do you know stretches that will prevent this?

  • @CoffeeBeatsTea I cannot help you directly but.. make sure you are warmed up completely, a few rounds of shadow boxing with a lot of hooks, try hitting less harder with the hook shots, and also use more body when hooking and less depending on the arm to deliver the hooks.

  • @FightChannel ok thank you

  • check out my video...can you give me some tips on my punching bag workout?

    watch?v=spkhDnDUiQI

  • Hey man, i just started boxing and i keep hurting my wrist whenever i get onto some bag work, I'm sure i'm punching straight but i think it might be the hand wraps i'm using (adidas gel wraps) any tips? my wrist has been hurting for a week now.

  • @Saxophonic It's normal in the beginning that the hand and joints of the hands hurt a bit in the beginning, this normally goes away after a bit of time as the hands get accustomed to the impact, one way to control the pain is to not hit hard and focus on hitting fast and lessening the impact.

  • @FightChannel Ok, thanks alot dude.

  • how much do the smaller bags cost? the one i got is around 5 foot, n was around 100 buckz

  • who needs punching bags when you can beat up scene dudes at college

  • Hey man ive got a question.

I use those same gloves (Everlast Evergel Gloves) and after every single workout, my knuckles are busted open and now there are blood spots around my entire bag. Any tips please?

  • @2WhiteProductions they are made for padding of the hands/knuckles, and should be used while wearing boxing/bag gloves for best usage.

  • good stuff

  • Will you build up your body physique by doing this ? Like arms, shoulders, and pecs ? If anybody would let me know I would be greatful :)

  • @D170RHL Look at a boxer's build. Deltoids (very good way to build the rear delts), traps, neck, abs/core.

It can be incoperated into interval training (ex: one of 3 sets) to mimic what a boxer does in competition. It gets your heart rate up quick - as quick as running. Therefore it is a good cardio workout.

  • fly to england and teach me lol i could make you alot of money .

  • Nice vid, thanks.

    5*****

  • Yes the bag should be used in all aspects

  • you used the punachbag to perfect skill, is it a good idea o use it to build power/speed in your punches?

  • i think that he means 90 and not 180.

  • great vid thanks :)

  • Great tips man, you obviously know what your talking about. Nice video.

  • is that duct tape wrapped around at the bottom?

  • Do you have a workout or something you do for your results?

  • whats the workout you do for your results?

  • Very good video! Especially the point about not being relaxed and visualizing the bag as an opponent. You should also have the same mindset when shadowboxing. I am also a student of Wing Chun Kung Fu. We use a wooden dummy a lot. But a lot of people get relaxed on that too. You must always imagine a real opponent in front of you when you're training solo. Otherwise when you do get a real opponent, you'll fight the same lazy way and you'll get killed!

  • it is hard to train alone, I think the markers are a great idea because it is easy to get lost and unfocused when boxing the heavy... I will try it tomorrow... and let you know and how long should each bag round be, about 2 min x 12 rounds, is that ideal?

  • I like what you are saying mang. (y)

  • Awesome & easy to understand.

  • just ordered a bag and after browsing through dozens of awful uninformative youtube vids, this seems to be some sound and solid advice. thanks man

  • Very useful video thank you sir !

  • nice video stl you do make some very good points at the start, and the idea of treating your punch bag as an apponent will give me a different mind frame to using it as a tool. Thank's for the words of wisdom sir.

  • awesome information man, thanks

  • Great Video!

  • Finally some one who knows what there doing!

  • nothing but respect for this Guy for taking his time to do this :D

  • ok good im a pro now

  • @basseke01kz Please note the title of this video "Punching bag tips"not punching tips.

  • @FightChannel yeah, sorry, fair enough)))))))))))))

  • @FightChannel @FightChannel lmao well said bro, man I don't know you, but I can tell you know what your sayin. Keep up your awesome videos man, they are really helpful.

  • @basseke01kz power comes from your hips and not the shoulders. if you throw from the shoulder it may be faster but not as effective. by the way...it is impossible to throw a punch without using your shoulders so I have no idiea what you mean by that. he is showing technique that is accurate.

  • @yetitracker who said that?

if u r in UK lets try 2gether?

boxing is my life man! Dont teach me how to do it! i already apologised to the guy who posted that video! but with punches, dude, i know more than u can imagine!

    i am practitioner, not theoretic!

  • @basseke01kz and about ur hips, u use it only! only for second hand, and thats obvious! not arguing!! not leading!

Show me how u would do it in frontal position with leading hand! NO WAY!

  • @basseke01kz You are an idiot !

  • @basseke01kz but he looks like he could smash ur fucking face in with relative ease :)

  • @basseke01kz why did u watch it if u r better than him...u r just a weak ass boasting girl...he is the exppert let him do his work and shut the fuck ur face up

  • dat was useful, cheers boss

  • treat youre bag like a woman :D

  • @Quadhardcore. I wonder how you treat your mother.

  • be sure you do some good warmup exercises before you start training and most important, hit the bag with CORRECT punches.

  • well...today I hit the bag again..I couldn't last too long due to sore left shoulder.. I notice when I throw my left hooks it tends to get sore. Is this normal? I am also throwing close inside hooks. Not so much far hooks so I figured it shouldn't affect my shoulders but it still gets to them after a bit of punching. I just don't want to mess up my left shoulder also...

  • is it normal to get sore shoulders the day after you work the heavy bag? Yesterday was my first time in a long time actually getting a decent workout on it when I threw a few left hooks i felt a slight pain in my shoulder. Today they are still sore but it doesn't feel like a bad pain. It feels more like the sore you get after a workout. I just wanna know if maybe I am just punching bad or if its normal? Thanks :)

  • yes it's quite normal to be a bit sore, you have used muscles in a way that you have not in quite a while

  • @junmae808 Soreness is great. It means you worked the muscles and the conditioning for boxing is demanding. You have to keep yourself sore after workouts so your bodey can adapt to the punishment my friend, good luck with your training.

  • its a really good idea and will work for some but it wont be as effective on bags that spin

  • Haven't thought about the markers yet... thanks a lot!

    Good video

  • really good, great idea with the markers. def going to do that on my big bag.

  • i just got my punching bag, this this helped a lot

  • your bag apart this squares has this black tape at the bottom, taped around,is it to strenghten it or was it ripped??

    ps

    interesting video

  • great vid

  • Just got my 1st heavy bag. Thanks for the tips, very informative!

  • Good job explaining heavy bags are important and you do have real good pionts. slowing it down was helpful it lets people understand better and faster. Your Fighting Instincts are good.

  • I typically try to keep my guard up when I'm doing bag work, but how high should I keep my guard? Usually I put my hands over my cheek bones.

  • Obviously this will vary per individuals, but I find that a good "high" guard is better, gloves resting on face right below the eyes "peek a boo" but not too high as to expose the body too much.

  • @Andoeriz It depends, if you're into boxing then usually around the cheekbones with the elbows tucked in, if you're into Muay Thai then you need your hands around your eyebrows and slightly to the side of your head, with your elbows slightly out. This is to avoid getting your arms broken by a body kick. However as you get closer to the bag bring your hands from the side of your head to the front in order to block punches.

  • @Andoeriz I would practice with many different guards, Peek aboo, half guard, and such. It helps you with different situations in the ring that might unfold, you might need to be more mobile so peekaboo is not recomended nfor that ya know? but just practice with alot there is no individual best one. goodluck buddy!

  • thanks alot buddy, good tip with the markings, I'll do that on by bag too.

  • Vid; nice but at some point in during your instruction you state one may want to move to the left to deliver perfect left at 180deg. which would imply back of the head and not the side. That would be 90 deg; I am sure you realized that but did not want to retape 9 minutes plus of instrucitons :)

  • Again Great Vid!!! I am going to take this to my Kung Fu class thanks!!!

  • Yes the 180 thing was a verbal typo, and was addressed by me, scroll down a bit

  • great vid but when i start punching hard i get inaccurate i think the tape thing u were doing would help with that so thx

  • Yes indeed the harder the punch the less control you have over it, it basically goes from origin to target. If target moves it is at times hard to re adjust the punch to the new location

  • wow man ur awsum u did help me very much that was smart whit the tejp how long u have been boxing by the way??

  • Awesome tips! I've been training myself, pls check out my heavy bag vids and gimme some insight when you get a chance. Thanks!

  • great vid, man! very clear and helpful ! you're the one, man !

  • when i punch really hard my wrists allways bend back how can i improve them??

  • Don't punch that hard then, boxing is not always about punching hard

  • you were talking about facing your punching bag as an opponite, a way i found to help you get the rite mentality is to combine "ghost boxing" and "punching the bag" so when your hitting you imagine that you are dodging the hits, it seems to hlep me alot

  • It should help a lot, especially in the defense areas

  • @Krug4720 ya thats usually what you do hitting the bag

  • Thx great vid but i dont get the "jab as a targeting sestym" can u explain it more or something and wats some "homemade" punching tools or stuff

  • The jab is a multi purposed tool, imagine your jab is a laser pointer "targeting device you place it on the target, then you pull the trigger "your second punch, preferably the straight right very fast of course

  • I see you place you targets pretty high on the bag, I'm curious whats your reasoning behind this?

  • It is better to assume the opponent is taller, one should always aim high, it is a littler harder to punch high as opposed to punching low, always take the harder route in training

  • good video.

how do i strengthen my wrists while training as its always my wrists that give in first?

  • very nice video, and good explanations :) thanks alot

  • yo whould a everlast 3th punchbag be able to hang from the seeling ?

  • Any bag can be hung from a ceiling, just remember that you are securing the mounting brackets into the studs in the ceiling

  • kwl thanks this is a pretty good youtube channel man and its great to get feedback so quick

  • No problem and good luck :-)

  • I think you´re using everlast´s evergel gloves. Can you train with only those gloves? don´t you hurt your wrists? Do you recommend them? or what kind of eqquipment and protection do you recomend to train with the heavy bag? I´m a beginner. Thanks.

  • Yes those are the ever gels they are made to replace regular hand wraps, you can use them for bunching a bag, for very light impact punching, for regular heavy bag training I recommend basic 180" wraps and a decent pair of bag gloves, and don' hit so hard.

  • Dude please why do u put duct tape around the bottom does it make the bag stronger or sumfing?

  • The bag is worn and had a hole in the bottom causing the sand to fall out, the duct tape was to prevent the sand from coming out

  • Oh also is it duct tape?

and I just got a new punch bag can i put tape all over it cause it seems a bit soft?

Omfg how strong is ure ceiling lol 2 PUNCH BAGS on it

  • Yes just regular black duct tape, the bag mounts are mounted onto the studs in the ceiling also, then suspended by a heavy duty spring to take the shock off of the mount and stud

  • KK thnks can i put tape around ALL my bag even though its brand new?

    cause its a bit soft

  • helpfull tips!!! I always had trouble placing my hits on the puncingbags, because I really did not know where to land my hits for optimal training, I'm shocked I haven't thought of the pieces of tape myself.

Thanks!!! best punchingbag vid on the web imo.

  • why is your bag so fucking high?

  • Who wrote the rule book on the correct height a bag should be mounted? how low is your bag hung? do you own a bag?

Maybe I want to throw upper cuts?

  • fuck you i have a bag its 5 ft long i have it set up eye level i have a uppercut bag so i dont have to punch near the celling like you do your striking wont be accurate with a bag over your head?

  • @stuylocster

no thanks I am heterosexual but I am sure you will find some of your kind just keep looking

  • stuylocster is an idiot. real talk. nice video and i like the homemade maize ball! haha made one myself not too long ago.

  • this vid is excellent, thanks for the tips they will defintly come in useful to me!

  • Very Good :-)

  • 180 would be the back of the head! dont u mean 90?

  • Scroll down, I have addressed this already,

  • great video, thanks.

  • i learnt something 2day.

  • :O kijk die armen kk gespierd :P

  • VERY GOOD!!!

  • great video

its not how hard you work , is how smart you work

now if you put the 2 elements ...

    THIS IS GODD STUFF!!!

  • I suggest you invest in a decent pair of bag glove and a pair of hand wraps, it's just better and safer that way

  • verryy gudd stuff

  • This is a great video. You addressed any questions i had and moe i didnt even think to ask.

  • great idea on the markers.

its not 180 from front to side, its 90. 180 would be from forehead to back of head.

but great instruction, thanks for the post.

  • {180} Yeah I addressed that in the 6th reply below

  • dont hit at the back of the head ever, it can cause brain damage

  • Nice !! .. I learned something today =)

    very useful information

    Thanks

  • 6:44 ROFLMBAO i understand why he made the stank face...ive seen those punches they just ugly

  • Very good, alot of people don't realize the importance of training like its real when you train, even against bags or the air. If your only giving 100% in a real fight, your 100% will be alot less tuned then someone who's training every moment like its real....

  • Yes indeed it was a technical slip of my words, but anyone with basic common sense would realize this? but thanks for pointing out the quite "obvious"

  • haha actually if you were in front of the bag and you went 180 degrees around it you would be behind it not to the side of it.. hahaha (3:30 - 3:47)

  • thanks, great vid! very informative

  • great video, thanks.I'm going to treat my bag as if it were A man trying to kill me.I'm going to kick that little round guys ASS!

  • LOL!

  • "dont treat youre bag like a bag man" great vid 5*stars

  • I'm getting a punching bag and this was very helpful, one of the best punching bag video's on youtube.

  • whys the bag so high?

  • How high or low should it be? who wrote the rules on the perfect height a bag should be mounted? are you an official bag height inspector? as you can see I have many bags of various heights they all serve a specific purpose and function.

  • The punching bag moves more so you can better practice your target hits...

  • so he can throw an uppercut

  • Cause he smoke to much pot...

  • this sounds silly but people get all confident when doing this but do they know correct self defence moves incase someone does this to you some day?

    expect the unexpected.

  • "boxing is 10% physical and 90% mental." i love that quote.

  • i got no bar to hold up my punching bag :P gonna put it up with wood

  • can someone tell me if there is a video of slip bag??

  • slip bag? try watching mike tyson's training vids

  • can punching bags boost your confident?

  • very nice but how about a great way to hang the punching bag. like rafterhanger on youtube

  • very informative, thanks

  • very good video mate. thanks for the tips

  • Very good advice, thanks mate

  • great tips i never thought bout putting tape as a marker to practice wit
