My favorite Mecha anime of all time, it was ahead of its time, the soundtrack, art (hand drawn), mecha design (dangaioh/villains) are perfect

and it could be a masterpiece but they had to fuck it but putting a confusing heart aching ending, its been 21 years since it was ended and still there is no fucking clue ... its very sad when you see something as powerful as this treated like garbage.

and please no one say that Great Dangaioh is a sequel because its an insult to the old one.

Anime like this and Gunbuster is proof that robot anime has gone WAY downhill in recent years... The only guys still cranking out the badassness are Dynamic Publishing, and that's because theirs are the GRANDADDIES of them all: Mazinger and Getter Robo.

Despite being completely hand draw, animated series like Dangaioh are more imaginative and vibrant than must CGI movies. Toshihiro Hirano, the gentleman behind Dangaioh was also behind the 80s anime classic Iczer 1

I love that moment. For the whole series, Puncher Grind has been a risky move because it doesn't come back, and then it misses and you're like "uh-oh, spaghettioes!" and then OH WAIT IT'S COMING BACK. Awesome.

Watch THIS, definitely. Great is...a passable show, but it's just not as good as the original. But to be fair, the original isn't fantastic either. The plotting is awful, there's dick-all characterisation and the only real saving grace when you get down to it is the robot itself.

But on the other hand, CROSS FIGHT!

In USR's defense, they did re-release with the correct translation. But the damage was done, I remember all the old "Sidekick" jokes that spawned from their mistake.
