  • This is TERRIFIC. One of the great heartbreak hits, beautifully understate and totally moving. I very much like this arrangement -- which is just as good as Perry Bodkin's original. Great work, Mr. Gummoe. Congrats!

  • Thanks John, hope you see this.As a 16 year old kid I loved this song and as a 65 year old man I still do.I really love the mellowed update which is in my mind a matured improvement of the original.

  • Really nice song. thought the tempo a bit slow

  • I added this to one of my favorites. I'm one of the baby boomers

  • yes the original is better cause that's what we're use to but this is beautiful... thanx for sharing it.

  • WHAT THE HECK!!! WHOM YOU ARE TRYING TO FOOL? WHY???? YOU GUYS DON'T KNOW THAT THE GROUP DIED ON A PLANE CRASH A LONG TIME AGO? WHERE WERE YOU OF ALL THIS TIME???

  • @daddyluv123

The Cascades were never in a plane crash. You must be thinking of someone else

  • Their voices, esp John Claude's had never changed even a bit considering that he had aged. They still rock!!!!

  • Wonderful!! You have a very big heart to post this. Thank you!! phyllis

  • Its truly amazing that he sounds just like i heard him 40 years ago.

  • What a great rendition of a great song! Even better than the original for me. Must be because John C and I are the same generation of oldies!

  • I like so very much-a new touch to a beautiful old classic. I may have fallen in love to the sounds of this song when I was in high school. Good ole days filled with wonderful music. I mean REAL music>

  • He's still got the voice..50+ years later!

  • 15 people are tone-deaf...

  • Great song done by an awesome group, thank you

  • Wonderful, I love it.

  • They aced it when the original was recorded. They've managed to ace it once again. Thumbs up for The Cascades, a timeless group.

  • Different style, yet very touching and equally as good as the original !

  • I have to say, this a wonderful re-make of the original. I grew up listening to what is known today as the "Oldies, butm, Goodies". At my age, I can really appreciate a lot of the re-makes of those songs. This one really takes me back to my younger days, remembering how nuch easier and fun life was. Mahalo (thanks) from Hawai'i.

  • I love the original, can so relate to it. This version is so relaxing

  • I agree with johnh85 i loved the original version but this grows on u and I am listiening to this more and more ..This brings back so many memories they keep flooding in .......Great song !! Wish i could go back but we all we can't and some times thats not fiar ..........Hagd everyone and just sit back close ur eyes and let your mind just float away and enjoy the song!!!!

  • 好いですね。

  • A very different flavor!! Nice .. good to see these veterans never stop re-inventing themselves .. whos u can't teach old dogs new tricks! :)

    2 thumbs up!

  • I've always loved the original...it just takes me back to when I was a kid, and also a teenager when I bought the "At the Hop" compilation of songs from the 50' and 60's.

I must say...Mr. Gummoe and the rest of the band have done an AMAZING job with this version.

    Proof of real talent.

    Great Job once again!

  • WOW - nothing else to be said.

  • I loved the original version and now I've fallen in love with this new arrangement. These are REAL musicians. Thank you for this video!

  • omg, they sing way so well, can't recognize that they are at their 70s just by listening.

I love this version so much <3

  • These guys still ROCK...I love this version!

  • WOW! Still very good vocal....awesome!

  • @ firemartys me too pal.

  • was 49 years

  • You guys are still on top of the world :-) AWESOME !

  • 原曲より すばらしいと思うのは私だけでしょう・

    晩年の カスケーズもとても いいですネ!

  • Love this rendition as much as the original. Maybe I am slowing down as I get older?

  • I was a little boy in nigeria when your hit came. 2011, your music is still as melodious. I live in Ga now, and wish I knew where this performance took place I wouldnt have missed it! Thanks for staying alive!

  • The Cascades

  • Oh bless his voice hs not changed at all!! I was 11 when the first version was released what memories!! X

  • Sweet dreams !!!! Makes me wanna take a nap ! :)

  • OMG Are they really the Cascades???? I fell in love with this song when I was eleven in the sixties. Now nearly 50 years later, I found this new version sung by the same band. AWESOME!!! Thank you very much for uploading this.

  • I usually don't like redos but this is very, very good and just different enough to make it unique.

  • they took the 60's out of it, the original is such a period signature of our lives, when we were young, hard to beat such original emotions recovered every time we listen to the original version. Not for me, this one.

  • this version is so nice to listen.

  • I never get tired of listening this classic song! Song with meaning. I love it.

  • This is such a lovely song and video

  • On this Wed. March 9 2011, 15 folks can kiss my a--.

  • i never get tired listening to this.

  • It's very nice, but the original is burned too deep into my synapses for this to sound right to me. Great job though.

  • Listening to this, it strengthens my memories even more. What a great job.

  • Its a bit slower than their earlier hit, but then we are all slowing down as we get older. Nice movie!

  • was this taken in Cebu?

  • Very very Beautiful Job this band does.

Brought tears to my eyes when I watched this video, and tears are running down my cheek as I write this message.

thank you for this upload.....and I thank the band for making the universe just that much more beautiful to exist in

  • LET ME KNOW IF YOU EVER NEED A KEYBOARD PLAYER AND BACK UP SINGER.

I CAN DO IT AND KEEP YOUR ORIGINAL UNIQUE SOUND

  • WHAT A BEAUTIFUL SONG. THANK YOU FOR THE MEMORIES

  • Cascades, one of my favorites :)

  • Wow senior night at their karaoke place must be awesome

  • Wow!! very nice and relax version ; )

  • It's raining ...

  • is this when they were old singing this song

  • WOW they sound great

  • I am reminded of Neil Sedaka's "Breaking Up Is Hard To Do" which in its original form sound too jolly and boppy for its subject matter. When Sedaka re-recorded that song in the 70's he made it as he originally wanted it to sound but couldn't, because of commercial pressure. This beautiful rendition by the Cascades of their own work has a similar impact. The new treament seems to suit the words much better. And as for that voice!!!!! I hope I sound that good at 72.

  • One of the relatively few live videos worth watching. John Gummoe's voice is even better now than it was in the 60s. I love the original, but something very special about this version.

  • I fell in love with the original, and I really like this version as well. Very relaxing.

I can kind of relate with the lyrics..

  • I like the original better, but they sound great regardless......

  • Some have it. Some don't. They have it.

  • an exquisite version of a classic. Beautiful

  • sigh ................... listen to it rain ...

  • @CanadianDom You are not alone Don, you have a close friend in me. Just as you were there to support me in my time of need, I will be there for you again if you need me.

  • This is amazing!!!

  • 這首歌在我年輕時心情不好的綠油精

  • I can't do enough "thumbs up" for this one.........Beautiful!!!!!

  • I knew the original Cascades when I was still a kid, and I loved this song since.

  • 這麼老..歌聲還這麼好呀 !!

    厲害唷!!

  • Don't you remember Ricky Nelson's Garden Party??? People want to hear the originals, not new versions. Sorry, this doesn't cut it.

  • @norskbente I think you missed the point of Garden Party.

  • Not anything like the original! Disappointing.

  • @lgcrooks If I may recant.... After listening to this a couple of more times, I quite like it. Perhaps I was too hasty!

  • Nice rendition. It's quite moving to see them together, after all these years.

  • mellow

  • PUUUUUUUUUUUUU! You don't mess with success. You're trying to reinvent the wheel.

  • @jtsct I'd like see u when you are 72 GREAT SONG NOW AND THEN

  • Hi!Pete How you doing?

  • What a brilliant version

  • I don't like this version. I'm sorry !

  • @quainhankid14 To all of you that commented that you like the original better. You need to know that this version was not meant to replace or be better than the original. Just a new rendition from a man who is now 72 years old and sees things in a different way...........Thanks for all your comments. John Claude Gummoe, composer of "Rhythm of the Rain" and original lead singer back then and original lead singer NOW.

  • @RAINSONG4U and from what my dad said, a better singer than sailor. We met you all when you were still on the USS Jason and then later when you came to the house for Thanksgiving dinner after the album was out. I really like both versions...and a couple of the covers from other artists. A well written song, just works in any genre. Thanks for the memories for me and my sister.

  • @RAINSONG4U your voice is still so beautiful and this is a very touching rendition! yes, i also have cried to your original, and consider it to be one of the all-time classics.

i am so glad you have gotten to see the impact your composition has had on several generations.

    we all thank you!

  • @RAINSONG4U Hes still alive? thnx for the memories of the yesteryears gone by. its so sweet i like the music in the 50's,60's and 70's .. this is one of my favorites band.yes its awesome..

  • Very relaxing to heard ... i remembered my dad favorite cascades

  • Love this version.....makes me think about my pass.

    Thanks for the great memories.

  • Love the original, but this version is great. Full of heart.

  • a song from heaven, across the century and still so emotionally.Rain in her heart and do believe it still travellin' through another century

  • These guys are incredible...My wife and I made this "our song." Used to love to sing this to her as we danced. I miss her desperately.

This is what real music is all about...Thanks for the memories fellas!!!

  • you know i really like this better have more felling in it but all time great song

  • That was the Red Coat Inn on 54th and University Right

  • i really this band of singers... this is one of the best revival ever.. this is great.. other singers would just make any revival of a song and it gets worse.

  • 熟成した素晴らしい歌です。しっとりと聞かせていただきました。

  • this fits today. it has been raining all day. i am home alone with the animals.

  • :D ____________

  • Nice version of this classic!!!!

  • First heard the Cascades singing this song when I was in the army in Singapore1962, I was in the swimming pool and it was raining.

    Happy day's.

  • oh my my! they are very good! long live the cascades!

  • wtf their voices were low and were outa breath lol now coz they became old

  • may god bless him with a good life!!! this snog is very super nice!!!

  • WOW!!

  • awesome!

  • Really nice. Thanks for the post.

  • こんなに声がきれいなのはなぜ?rhythm oh th rainが、違う曲のようでした

  • Very beautiful version of a classic from the 60's. Sad song. Brings back a lot of memories. I would definitely like to see these guys perform.

  • ....i love Cascades...this one's really great...

  • They have only gotten better through time.

  • the begging sound like one of vanessa william song ...i think pocahontas

  • very sentimental

  • Country version? Lol...wooow..

  • until now they're still amazing ^^!!!!!

  • love it <3

  • Great version of this song. Thanks!

  • Can you buy this version?

  • Every thing is being redone these days because of all the new tech. , movies like Star Wars etc. I know this is a new version but it grows on you just as the orginial did. I like them both . But I dont see any harm in recording it again everyone else is doing old songs .

  • this song makes me cry this used to be my mom's favorite song i was 13yrs old when she let me sang this song with her, now i haven't seen her for almost 10 yrs,, and i miss her so much

  • I remember these guys doing this when I was in HS, senior year 1963. There is NO way that version was inferior to this. These guys have fallen in love with themselves. Sometimes age does that. I can still hear the original in my head--this IS smarmy.

  • This song is all over YouTube in any language you want. "Imitation is the sincerest form of flattery," but this smarmy rendition is the worse version of all.

  • I love this song than ever :x

  • The first time I heard it I thought it was the greatest song ever but then again I thought in the sixties almost every song I ever heard was the greatest. This is a great version and it shows that they really put their hearts and work into it. These are true entertainers.

  • ive heard loads of bands/singers in my time that lose the sparkle of performance.these arent one. Before you critisize singers like this...look at yr own lifes journey, or if youre too young, remember my words and then say sorry.

  • Wow! I first heard these guys at a place called The Red Coat Inn in San Diego..They are even better here in 2005...I am impressed

  • @Oahunative59

Last time I saw was at Red Coat Inn as well. Dave was only member there. He and Johnny were in the Navy with my dad and we had the band over for Thanksgiving dinner when this album was hot. My teenage sister was VERY popular in school the next week when she told everyone. I think she still has the album with all of their signatures on it.

I miss the Red Coat Inn. They had some very good bands in there. Bowling wasn't bad either, when the lanes were new.

  • I love this version, it show, that their hearts still remain in the music...

Ever listened to Dan Fogelbergs version of it?

Go have a listen - it´s really worth it...

  • over 40 years by the same group and still a very special song for alot of people myself included.

  • i think every version might be better

  • like this version its very relaxing.....

  • I think both versions are great, its like what Neil Sedaka did with Breaking up is hard to do one slow , one fast.

  • much better with the old version.

  • Great vocals, beautiful version.

  • Yawn. Sorry. The orginal is soooooooooooo much better.

  • this is really nice but i really loved the original version :(

  • This is a pefect example of how fancy gadgets can take away life out of things and leave the poor original gasping for breath.

The original was a song fit for heavens. This version?

  • its really cool band and the song is good perfect

  • amazin 10/10 version still got it i see

  • it's really amazing song ....

  • A wonderful version of a great song, love it

  • This shows that even when we get older that we can still do it. I do like the younger version, but still gold is still gold.

    Lauren

  • Great song

  • oh man... i don't like this version, i like the original

  • man, this version is awsome. but i like the dan folgelberg (spelling) version better.

  • I remember listening to this song ...the original version when I was young, in fact my dad when to high school with one of the members....good music, its when it actually ment something rather than words spoken.

  • i love tis version... it's really enjoy n relax when i listen to it...

  • of course i love the original, but i also like this slow version and the lead singers voice is so clear and relaxing, this song should be a hit with those who still like to slow dance........its a 10

  • I have to say, although i dont mind this rather slow version I very much like the original recording.

  • awesome this is a great song

  • They sung that song in Araneta Coliseum in Philippines, I was there, I was not on earth yet during their heyday, but I like their song.. I love it infact... classic and sensible...

  • it is not necessarily better or lesser. they are just different expressions from different times of their lives. the old one reflected their youth..the way a teen might feel intense feelings with his early love...the new one shows life's accumulated richness...the voices actually became RICHER as they aged, as their variations showed richness too. BRAVO !

  • good say!

i have the same feeling too.

this version makes the song tenderness and can taste the forgiveness...

  • Thanks so much for your comment. Hate the out of sync video, but so glad this new version is getting some attention. My song is a sad song and the old version musically, never said that. I worked dozens of hours doing this version with my friend, guitarist and musical director, Charles Cruz and in my mind is one of the best vocal performances of my long career. Thanks to all the fans. We love you. John Claude Gummoe
