You are very lucky. The YLoD affects 2% of all PS3s, meaning your one out of OVER a million. The RRoD? Like 30-50%. PLus, it only affects older PS3s. The SLIM models dont have that.
I have the same problem but with nba live 09. Everytime i update nba live 365 during the process of it, it stays in 9%, Or 10%and it doesnt move. But i can still press the ps button and exit during the process but everytime i retry it the process doesn't move. But the thing is it's only 24 megabites! Help!

Just so everybody knows, the situation has been resolved for about a month now (wanted to make sure). Sony started sending out replacement units to anybody having this problem with GTAIV. So if you're having this lock up problem call them up and they will replace your unit within a week!

Sorry, I think you got that backwards. PS3 is the best, you need to do more research. I like my BluRay movies AND games (for the same price as a 360 or lower), not just one or the other.

Mine was $350, brand new 40gig. This whole "PS3's cost 600 dollars" crap really needs to stop. They haven't cost that much for well over a YEAR. By your own logic, you YOURSELF should have been aware of this issue long before buying it, but you bought it anyway. It was a crapshoot - some of us got lucky, others didn't.
The other thing is, Sony is repairing consoles with this issue free of charge REGARDLESS of whether they are in warranty or not. Most of the problems were with the launch consoles, although some later models (such as mine) experienced the problem as well. FREE repair/replacement on out of warranty machines? Sounds good to me. So far 360 users have been offered NO fix for the issue AT ALL. I'll keep my PS3 with the excellent customer service, thanks.

Same thing happened on my 40gig. It's a crapshoot, either it works or it doesn't. But at least Sony is offering free repair/replacements, even on out of warranty machines.
i just bought a copy on ebay. my PS3 is 40GB and the GTA IV i got off ebay works 100%. maybe try getting a newer copy of GTA, or if you try installing it now, theres an update (v1.01).

Here's what happened to me about an hour ago.I recieved an emai1 from Sony saying to contact their tech support @ 1-800-345-7669. They're replacing my 60 GB manufactured in Jan,2007. Units that have the Broadband CPU, plus PS1, and PS2 chips ,INSTEAD of the EMULATOR chip cannot run GTA4, so they're replacing units free of charge.Call,them and give them the serial #,model #, and Manufacture date to see if you unit slated for replacement.

Got my copie today and new patch and the game still freezes i logged off PS network and it works but it has problems loading buildings and stuff and now the game isnt even loading wioth network on im going to try to log out now and back and log on at my sellphone to multiplayer but still the game is as broke as it can be....

you dont need to uninstall anything just dont connect to the net! ie disconect the wifi or unplug the eithernet clear the cash and it will be fine! then play a coupleof missions save the game and you can use the net again, if it frezzes again repeat this process , its works for me and is working for most people on the psn forums!

Just to update, a Patch came out today. I downloaded and installed it. NO HELP, same problem, won't load past the first cut scene. Uninstalled and resinstalled, installed the patch, still nothing........ This has got to be the most rediculous thing I've ever seen....

Same thing happened on my 40gig. It's a crapshoot, either it works or it doesn't. But at least Sony is offering free repair/replacements, even on out of warranty machines.

i just bought a copy on ebay. my PS3 is 40GB and the GTA IV i got off ebay works 100%. maybe try getting a newer copy of GTA, or if you try installing it now, theres an update (v1.01).

The game has been exchanged twice and the updated added, still same problem.
Sony is currently working on replacing the console, so far for free. I will update once the exchange is done.

iv had my gta for 2 days now and its starting to freez and say unable to read disc (says its a dirty cd) its brand new! i have it for 360 and it was great for the 12 hours i got to acually play the effin thing now it freezes atleast 10 mins into game play. and iv tried deleting and starting over it dont work. call taketwo electronics they make the games softwere not rockstar! every 1 needs to speek up so they fix this

Here's what happened to me about an hour ago.I recieved an emai1 from Sony saying to contact their tech support @ 1-800-345-7669. They're replacing my 60 GB manufactured in Jan,2007. Units that have the Broadband CPU, plus PS1, and PS2 chips ,INSTEAD of the EMULATOR chip cannot run GTA4, so they're replacing units free of charge.Call,them and give them the serial #,model #, and Manufacture date to see if you unit slated for replacement.

Got my copie today and new patch and the game still freezes i logged off PS network and it works but it has problems loading buildings and stuff and now the game isnt even loading wioth network on im going to try to log out now and back and log on at my sellphone to multiplayer but still the game is as broke as it can be....

There is no patch for xbox and the patch hasn't fixed everyone's ps3's but I want to play this game so badly, this sucks people need to know that those of us complaining about this are not just trying to make a console look bad, it's just a really awesome game and we want to play it like other people have been able to play the same game, it's frustrating because it's like it was too good to be true, but that doesn't seem to be true for all

The same thing happened to my xbox, now other games get glitchy too when before putting gta in I never had a problem. I've tried all the prescribed remedies, nothing worked and now I'm left with a big ugly dvd player. I was ready to go out and buy a ps3 just for this, but I'd like to be able to be certain I can play through the game, otherwise shouldn't the money be going the other way?

you dont need to uninstall anything just dont connect to the net! ie disconect the wifi or unplug the eithernet clear the cash and it will be fine! then play a coupleof missions save the game and you can use the net again, if it frezzes again repeat this process , its works for me and is working for most people on the psn forums!

Disable the network + screen saver, uninstall the game.. turn off the ps3, turn it on again manually.. install the game and enjoy!

I have been playin since it came out. All other games work fine too. And it seems like the bigger crowd thats having probs is the ppl with the 80 or 60 GIG PS3s. My buddy says his 80 Gig has problems playing Need For Speed Pro Street. IDK. I have also played online. No problems. I love this game!

Just to update, a Patch came out today. I downloaded and installed it. NO HELP, same problem, won't load past the first cut scene. Uninstalled and resinstalled, installed the patch, still nothing........ This has got to be the most rediculous thing I've ever seen....

I bought GTA IV the day it came out, played fine the first day, next day it starts to glitch, THEN! when Niko is talking to that guy in the building telling you to do his dirty work - you can't even hear them talking! :@!
Then my PS3 freezes completely and does NOT load ANY PS3 game at all!
I've restored quickly and fully
but it's still making a funny churning noise when it tries reading my disks!
