Of all the videos I've explored, and that's been a few, this set of 3 is the easiest to understand and most thorough yet! Really - everything falls into place with this video. Additionally, your attitude (and that of your horse, and how you handle him) is just a pleasure to watch! Thank you so much for this! I can really tell that you do love teaching people because you do it so very well.
I love your videos, you are a great teacher. I am new to going barefoot and think it is the best way to go. I am wondering about the sole. 3/4 inch of the sole on my horse makes contact with the ground and then is very shallow. Normally people would say to take the hoof knife and remove the sole. But if you remove it then you remove the protective callous right? What is more important to take care of?
Tryng to learn to trim a hoof from a 30 min video is a bad idea. People and horses will get hurt. You are rasping all the hoof wall away above the sole and putting him on his sole.
The bars are growing at the same rate as the walls, so why wouldn't you trim them as much as the walls? The bars actually get pushed up within the hoof capsule and over time, will sharply pinch the interior portions above (the DDFT, digital arteries and the navicular region) and also choke the blood vessels feeding the frog corium unless trimmed or worn off by rocks. When they are long, they also distort the lateral heel walls causing flaring and eventual quarter cracks. But these r great videos
THANK YOU!
