  • Wow Thanks this really helped me set up my Party thanks for taking time to explain this Method

  • Sounds awesome and pretty simple, gonna give it a shot. thanks!

  • um why did she put vinegar in it? You can make this same recipe and get TONS of GOOOD bacteria that will help your gut by not boiling the water and not putting in vinegar which kills it. Probiotics all the way.

  • Makes my mouth water. I will try this out

  • @941Flores Wtf man tht aint cool at all stop bein a hater and get ur fat ass of the couch and do it

  • just use vinegar, never use water.

  • So can you still make them this way without the Dill? You know, for those of us who don't want Dill pickles, just, well, pickles?

  • Thanks for taking the time to share this information. I made these pickles with the addition of pickling spice. Everyone loved them!!

  • @21footxpress You are so welcome. We love them too. We actually have a "how to pickle okra" video floating around our website. Head over to Food Channel and check out what other great recipes we have to offer! Happy eating :)

  • will these pickles listen to my problems and comfort me when I cry?

  • My recipe.

    Get money

    Go to the grocery

    Go to the pickles.

    Buy Them

    Then Eat Them

    LESS Than a week.

I'm not wait like 2 freaking months just to eat pickles

  • what is the water bath? is it boiling water? a pot of room temp. water? I didn't get it

  • @RedTailedTuna it is boiling water. you can also use a pressure cooker

  • @patrickp9990 thank you

  • u r awsome

  • This is awesome I love this, this is informative big time. Know what to do now, but don't have one of those jar grabbers though. Thank you for your time to show how to make Dill Pickle's. You are awesome. Hope you got other recipe "how to" video's.

  • does anyone know a claussen pickles recipe

  • Why does these woman who owns a cooking channel always looked like they're on the verge of suicide?

  • @BarlowEnter that makes no sense.

  • I read an article in one of the sunday magazines that any surplus cucumbers can be kept in white wine vinegar with some dill added.

    Will this be o.k?

Does the salt to make brine etc have to be added aswell, will they not be o.k in just neat white wine vinegar.

  • Thanks

  • What is the purpose of the water bath you place the jars in after sealing? What is it's temperature and level (i.e. boiling water over the lids)?

  • Success! Just taste tested mine after letting them 'sit' for 6 weeks after following this How To video.

I used my Burpee II Hybrid cukes I grew this summer in my garden. I was afraid they would end up crunch-less - but these turned out GREAT! THanks for posting the video!

  • Man am I lucky, I have a jar of pickles.

  • Can I can sun picklels? they taste good but they take up to much room in my frig.

  • You did a great job!!! My wife just loves you!

  • just got to say this was the perfect how to video. everything was there the host came across with style and grace! thank you food channel

  • @jokinjoe4u Oh you are so welcome! Glad you liked it. Make sure you check out the rest of our how to videos and remember, all of the recipes are available on our website!

  • Can u reuse the jars

  • What Happens If You Don't sterilize your jar. I just wanted to buy some new jars. Can you get sick if you don't sterilize?

  • @Javier32101

Yes. Always, always sterilize your jars to prevent possible contaminators like botulism.

  • FYI, you should never boil seals, or subject them to boiling water - see Ball and other mfr. recommendations. A separate pot or pan with simmering water (180-190 deg. F) should be used for seals.

  • Some of the comments here are alarming for a pickling site.

  • To Much Work...!!!=.="

  • can I do pickle chips with recipe too??

  • @wrtavares it should work just fine if you are making dill pickle chips.

  • @TheFoodChannel I planted pickling and long english cucumbers this year but for some reason didn't have much success with the pickling variety. Can I just slice the long english into rounds and use this same method with those? Such a GREAT video!! You definitely make it look easy and pain-free. :)

  • Great video, thanks for sharing!

  • how hot is the water bath?

  • Hi, why do you put it in the water bath?

  • @VxHONEYxV8 because it's MUCH easier, and does the same thing as pressure cooking. :)

  • @ninjafree9neasy thanks for helping me out, so are you doing that to "cook" it a bit or to seal the lid. sorry i have never try to put something in a jar before.

  • @VxHONEYxV8 you are doing it to seal the jar by heating it up.. does this make sense?? so it's a little of both :D

  • I was watching this while eating dill pickles.. they were good..

  • @941Flores Maybe you shouldn't be such a dick. If you don't want to make your own pickles then don't, but you shouldn't call someone a whore just because you're lazy. Btw, keep shopping at walmart and then see what happens to this country. It won't be pretty.

  • @ChopperJohn4 i agree with you. not a fan of wal-mart or lazy people. haha. mark my words, i think best buy will be the first non-food store that will be over taken by wal-mart. just you wait.

  • @941Flores hahaha get shit on! lolz

  • Thanks for the info! My husband and daughter just made 6 jars of pickles, different varieties, and we are very excited with this little project! Yum! Could become a habit if it's this easy.

  • Really nice step by step.... think i'll make a sweet pickle...

  • Made my first 3 jars yesterday. The pickles I used were on the bigger side so did a combination of whole and spears to fill. Was wanting to try so decided to open one jar today and was going to let the other two age. The spears I tried turned out mushy. Tried a whole one and it seemed kind of soft but not mushy like the spears. Are the spears probably ruined or will they firm up some as they age? Only thing I can think I might've done wrong is cook a little longer than suggested by like 3 mins

  • @foxcarver9 hard water is bad for pickles. Use distilled water (not tap water) and your pickles will come out much more crisp. You can also try throwing in some alum or a grape leaf which should help as well.

  • @ASFx2600 ok thanks for the advice. Will give it a try

  • @foxcarver9 They are so delicious and it's pretty rewarding. Yes it'll take more of an effort, but they are totally worth it. And, canned foods make great gifts in the cooler months. Foodie gifts are always a plus!

  • what should pickles really taste like? 'cause after i tried the pickles in between Macdonald's double cheeseburger, I really dislike them.

  • @HEYMONDAYYY Oh you should give them a shot. Try them from the grocery store. The ones that are refrigerated are absolutely delicious. Then, if you're feeling crafty, try making them!

  • @TheFoodChannel Hi, do u have to use pickling salt or can u use regular salt?

  • @ComfyCavy7325 It needs to be pickling salt. Regular salt has anti-caking additives and iodine which will turn the pickles brown and the brine cloudy. Pickling salt lacks those and therefore allows your pickles to be delicious.

  • @TheFoodChannel Hi, do u have to use pickling salt or can u use regular salt?

Also, even if jar seals can u still put in the fridge?

  • @HEYMONDAYYY I think I may understand your question better than the uploader did, because I don't like the taste of dill either. Your answer is, if you make them yourself, you can leave that out.

  • Hint.Cut the music while talking.Otherwise good info.

  • Hint.Cut the music while talking.

  • to long to cook, to long to eat, and, to many ingredients I'd rather Buy one for just a Dollar!

  • @PeepsRock309 It's "too", you idiot!

  • @MarkJ801 Who The Fuck cares? I'm in kindergarten LEAVE ME ALONE!!!!!!!!

Alright Your an idiot for not knowing Im in kindergarten! >:-(

  • or buy them

  • Um you can't eat them until 4-6 weeks? Um i think I'm fine with my walmart pickles I'm not waiting that long

  • I would totally hit that.

  • shes cute

  • Great vid!

  • This is "cold packed" method?

  • atleast she's in the kitchen

  • What is pickleing salt?

  • I live in Hawaii and haven't seen pickling salt. Could I use Kosher Salt instead?

  • @1:58 what are those creatures in the window?

  • Can you put/store them in the fridge after sealing the lids on them? There just for me so i am not making 12 jars or anything like that.Maybe 4 to see how they come out being my first time. Can you also reduce the salt?I hate salt or is it needed for the process.forgot, when heating the jar does the water cover the jar or is the level just below the rack.

  • @koolbossjock

yes you can put them in fridge and you can try using just 1/3 of a cup of salt, but yes you do have to use salt.

  • Can you put/store them in the fridge after sealing the lids on them? There just for me so i am not making 12 jars or anything like that.Maybe 4 to see how they come out being my first time. Can you also reduce the salt?I hate salt or is it needed for the process.

  • I like real spicy stuff, can i put habanero in there to,if so how much.

  • Where could i find those fancy jars? Could i just use an old 2 liter glass pickle jar and sterilze it the same way?

  • @kornfan0001 Ace hardware has the lrg quarts jars for 10 bux.I think there is 12 in a pack.

  • I'd let her handle my pickle any day.

  • does this taste sweet or salty after pickling? i like those that are slightly sweet...any tips?

  • @dawnakaangel These are dill pickles, so they will be salty. To make the bread and butter pickles, or sweet pickles, you'll have to use a different recipe. The bread and butter pickles need different spices.

  • Wow@! I had no idea it was that easy Thanks.

  • @Fantasiasightnsound Oh yes. We also have a great video on how to can tomatoes. You should hop on over to our website and you'll find quite the recipe database. Just in time for Christmas also! Happy cooking!

  • I'd hit it.

  • What's the point to make pickles at home using the same cheap ingredients they use commercially i.e. pickling salt, white vinegar!!! unless you grow your own veggies, that is.

  • @beyond7 Did you see her put any FDC Yellow # 5/HFCS..High fructose corn syrup or/MSG/or anything else that does not need to be there? That will answer your question.

  • Just a quick question - when you stated you put the jars in a water bath with boiling water, was that a pressure cooker canner or just a granite pot?

  • @kiwi73703 It's a pressure cooker.

  • @SHCConker +1

  • @SHCConker Seriously kid? you are one pervy kid, can you tell shes old, she probally is a mom already taking care of her children... why would you post such a comment, shes not even hot that much.... Think before you post nex time.

  • @grant747 lol your calling me a pervert when your the one posting videos of some old game making your character look like its having sex with another? How about you think before your post next time.

  • @SHCConker Your comment doesn't even correspond to why you said "tits or gtfo"? This is a food channel... not a porn channel... why don't you think before you post...

  • @grant747 dont worry about why i posted that..

  • you know she wants to handle a hot pickle

  • I was going to make some pickles following your recipe. Do you have to wait 3 or 4 weeks to serve? or can i wait 10 days?

  • @horsebknthewind You can, but the flavor will be more intense the longer you let them sit.

  • Can you save any of the brine you initially make in the big pot if you have any left over?

  • @urgdaddy We suggest only reusing it once more after the initial batch. You will lose some of the flavor the more you reuse the brine.

  • We'd love to have the recipe! Feel free to post it right here!

  • weeks to eat pickles? There's recipes out there, some that i have theat you can have perfectly great pickles the very next day.. i've made them for years, everyone i know loves them, my favorite are my homemade bread and butter pickles.

  • Great vid! 2 Questions though, 1) Do I need the seal/cap contraption for this or can I save used jars with 1 piece lids from the store for this? and 2) How long can these pickles be kept like that? 1 year maybe? Thanks again for the detailed video!!

  • I'm about to try this, but I'm confused. You sterilize your pots but then you have your fingers all over the cucumber while packing them in? Or have you desinfected your hands also before?

And, is there any chance this would go bad? Like botulism?

  • How many quarts will the recipe make?

  • Great info...Thanks!!!

  • Why do you need to put the jars in the water bath?

  • You said convex when you meant to say concave and versa-visa.

  • instead of using fresh dill and garlic is it ok to use dried dill and dry garlic powder?

  • can you use sea salt or a diferent type of salt if you cant find pickling salt?

  • @Maria259 Unfortunately not. You need to use pickling salt. Pickling salt is free of additives that sea salt contains. These additives would turn the pickles dark and the liquid cloudy.

  • @TheFoodChannel .. kosher salt the same thing as pickling salt?

  • @kbgrowkid420 No...Kosher salt and coarse pickling salt can be substituted for each other in some applications. However, kosher salt is not an optimal substitute for coarse pickling salt in pickling because it may contain anti-caking agents and it measures differently than coarse pickling salt, which may throw off recipes.

  • Should you tighten the lids after taking them out of the water?

  • Very well done. thanks!! Looking forward to trying

  • Great video. I'll be making my first pickles this weekend using your recipe. Thanks.

  • this is a great vid on how to make your own dill pickles.

would adding a jalapeno or other chiles be okay? and can i use regular salt instead of pickling salt?

  • @hksupersi Oh adding heat would make your pickles delicious! You need to stick with the pickling salt. It has certain minerals taken out like iodine and no free-flowing additives since they can cloud the salt water

  • she is hot

  • You can view the full recipe online at The Food Channel!

  • Five questionsfor you please.

1.- It's ok to use the small pickles instead the large to make your recipe?

2.- Are the results shows a crunchy pickle?

3.- How long we have to keep the jar close to be ready to eat?

4.- For how long it will be good after the jar is cool -expiration date-

5.- Where can i buy the tools you used to handle the hot jar?

    Please respond thanx

  • you are amazing, they are look delicious

i'll ask mommy to do this for me :)

    thank u+subscribe

  • im going to try and make my own dill pickle and cheese as well

  • Can they be any cucumbers or do they have to be pickling cucumbers?

  • @campingbymoonlight You can use regular cucumbers, but the pickling ones are smaller and would fit into a jar easier...if you cut the regular ones into spears, then that would work.

  • GREAT How-To! I'm all ready to make some pickles. Gosh...I just love them... Thanks!

  • @biz4two They are so delicious. Make sure you check out our video on how to can tomatoes and make homemade salsa! Yummm.

  • two things, never boil your snap lid, just heat it very hot water, otherwise you risk seal failure due to the sealing compound breakdown. Also, tighten the rings finger tight only before putting them in the canner, otherwise the jar may not vent properly (ie expel all its gas), the snap lid may buckle, and the seal could fail. Other than that, this is a good, simple method for making pickles.
