do you have any further information on the Mobil servo that was demolished?
I am in the process in intervening in the design stage of a gas station which is located 31m from an estuary with proposed tanks which would be located below or at sea level depending on the height of the tides. I want the tanks on the surface.
If anyone has information on damaged fuel tanks intalled in estuarine environs damaged by earthquakes could you please contact me?
@waipori I know in the September earthquake that the area was hit badly with the Mobil servo on the corner demolished due to damage, I haven't been down that area since earthquake but I'd say something similar to this video.
There used to be heaps of pockets of swamps with frogs and black crap there. First they got all the bush out then pumped the water out from the pockets of swamp dotted around the place. Then they put soil in, let it set, put more in and so forth. After the rollers compacted the area they left it for a couple of years to set. It was all marked out then later they came back and dug up areas for the pipes and to lay the roads etc. Gradually houses popped up and there it was. Hows it looking now?
@JedNZ Most houses in this area are standing but like our place the frame of the house has warped slightly not allowing some external and internal doors to open properly or at all. Cracking around doors and windows and concrete slabs cracking or shifting away from main foundation pad etc. The streets and footpaths in Parklands and North New Brighton are all very much like what this video shows. All I can say is that it could have been worse.
i remember as a kid watching this suburb being built with all its foundations and roads laid down. Me and my brother used to watch the diggers etc and hide in the huge mounts soil they were bringing in. But before then most parts were swamp land packed with soft soil mate, if anything that whole area will have to be demolished and rebuilt. Parkview Primary School and good old supervalue plus but now fresh choice! lol
