  • I totally agree with you. I hate CGI. The new Indi film had so much of it I was sick to my stomach in the theater. And don't even get me started on the scene where Jabba the Hutt is walking in the Millennium Falcon's hangar. eww

  • I don't see the problem. It looks a lot better in my opinion.

  • Dont worry, Spielberg has said that he will release ET and Raiders without any tweaking in the Bluray and he has regreted all those changes.

  • FYI the new shot has been removed and the old one restored in it original state. I saw this at the 30th anniversary screening last night with Spielberg.

  • @trabera Yeah? If that's true, than that's nothing less than spectacularly awesome! hehehehe

Did you meet Spielberg? I bet he's a cool dude!

Is there any more that you can report? Was there any mention of why the new scene was removed (thankfully!) and the original restored? Ooo, ooo! Tell us more! hehehe

BTW, where was the screening? In NYC? In LA? Where? hehehehe Was Lucas there also?

  • Fuck the complaints. I like subtle CGI improvements.

Now the cliff looks alittle more natural.

  • @Grooveraider Heh, yeah, more natural than a real, actual natural cliff! Shut-up!

  • @WinstonSmith6079 - NO, YOU SHUT THE FUCK UP !

It does look better ! Quit being a bitch against CGI.

  • @Grooveraider

It doesnt matter whether it looks better. The movie should be left how it is.

  • @KingoftheGods123 - I beg to differ. It not like Spielberg set himself out to

drastically change scenes in his films like Lucas. I can accept subtle

    CGI changes like this clip.

  • @Grooveraider You don't even make any sense, and neither do all your remakes, and your like zero original material that you can't even come up with anything all by yourself! You're an idiot and a melon-head! hehehe

  • @Grooveraider And you sound more like an idiot.

  • I dislike Lucas and his changes to Star Wars but i did not notice anything here! I think you are trying to parody those who complain to make us look bad.

  • @Frizzurd Don't need a parody for that!

  • @WinstonSmith6079 don't need a parody for the shlock that Hollywood produces and the masses of idiots that keep funding it either

  • @Frizzurd Hehe exactly! hehehe

  • @Frizzurd Eeehh, OTOH, that's a great idea! Someone GOOD should actually make that! I think more people than Hollywood realizes would actually pay to see that...well if it were good and not crappy, ya know hehehe

Hey! That IS a good idea after all! You should tell Hollywood, or somethin' hehehe

  • I fail to see what the difference is, apart from the look of the cliff. Can someone please point out the touch ups to me.

  • @OpeningSalvoe Yeah, how about that I point out the touch-ups that the Optomatrist needs to do on your eyes.

  • @WinstonSmith6079 lol get a life you nerd, so he did one touch up on a cliff WOW the whole film is just ruined isn't it!

  • @OpeningSalvoe I have a life, not a mention a fuckin' brain, that's already much better than yours, so don't try ye olde hacknyed and witless "get a life", you uncreative turd-hoarder.

And who ordered you to ASSUME that that's the only "improvement" that was going to be done? Beacuse that's a really stupid assumption on your behalf, and doesn't even make any sense.

Don't you even have anything kinda good to mumble there? Well be sure to reply when you do. Until then, don't bother, lame-fag.

  • @WinstonSmith6079 hahahaha!! Another typical LAME yank with his LAME insults. You clearly have NO life if you're getting your little satin panties in a twist over a few CGI touch ups in a movie. You need to get outdoors more and get yourself a girlfriend, because i'm betting you've never had one.

  • @OpeningSalvoe Oh, now with the wagers, as if you were old enough and smart enough be able to handle money! So are you betting? Or are you just yet another n00by bitch that just talks shit that means exactly nothing?

I do take PayPal, so bet it up, ghetto-boy hehehehe

And BTW, when are you gonna be able to come up with your own movie for once just like everyone else has since forever? You're constant remakes and dilettante-meddling with movies better than yours suck ass! hehehehe

  • @WinstonSmith6079 What? Ok now you seem to have completely lost the fucking plot altogether. Bets? Meddaling with movies? Who do you think I am George Lucas or Steven Spielberg or something? At first I thought you were just a sad lonely geek. Now I think you're stark raving mad!

  • @OpeningSalvoe You're a tit! You dunno what you're thinkin'! You dumb kids are always screaming "REMAKE THIS" and "PUT CGI IN THAT" about EVERY fucking movie made more than like ten years ago! Allthewhile, there's no good original material, and very, very little original material AT ALL!

You're a full HALF of the reason why movies suck these days! But that's not enough for you, being the piggy, screamy little bitches that you are! You gotta fuck up something great when you can't do your own!

  • @OpeningSalvoe And you "think" I'm mad, but I'm sure not diseased with the ADD like you are! No fuckin' way, you stinky ADD-afflict!

Make up your own goddamn movies for once, little kiddie! Leave the works of those better than you alone, shithead!

  • @WinstonSmith6079 LOL ok first I thought you were a sad lonely geek, then I thought your were stark raving mad, now I just think you're retarded. hahaha!! You're insults are typically American in their patheticness. You sound like a little ten year old having a tantrum. Off to bed with you now little kiddie, it's way past your bedtime and far too late in the evening for you to be whining and bitching about tiny little alterations made to your favourite flicks, you've got school in the morning.

  • @OpeningSalvoe Well of course a bitch changes her mind every two seconds, don't you. I'll school you, you uneducated dumbfuck! "REMAKE THIS!" "PUT CGI IN THAT!" "DUR-HUR-HUR!" :-B Shutup, little bitch!

And where are you from? The ass-end of Ethiopia? Or, even worse, Australia? From reading the wacky, dumb shit you write, I'm pretty sure you're from some place quite inferior and not very good at all. So where is that, bumblefuck?

No, wait: It's drunkie Ireland! LMAO! I was right! Inferior! LOL

  • @WinstonSmith6079 hahahaha!! Yep now you're really starting to sound like a petulant illiterate whiney little yank bitch child having a tantrum with all your "fuck yous" and your ample use of the CAPS LOCK button, only a thick inarticulate American would be so frustrated by his own lack of vocabulary that he'd feel the need to SCREAM at me over the net, well it's not your fault I suppose you are afterall a product of the laughably piss poor education system you have in that country of yours.

  • @OpeningSalvoe Ooo! They're after me Lucky Charms! *guzzle, guzzle* *hic!* They're always after me Lucky Charms! *gulp, gulp! glug, glug!*

Seriously! Is that the best you can do!? ???

Go stick an IRA pipebomb up your ass, eh! No one in the whole world gives a flying green donkey dick about Ireland! LOL You sooo know it's true LMAO!

If I were you, I wouldn't even try anymore. Ireland! BWAAAHAHAHAHAHA! Yeah, everybody so very much cares about Ireland! Waahahahaha!

  • @WinstonSmith6079 LOL you're asking me if that's the best I can do? The best insult you can throw at me is Lucky Charms, we don't even have those here, that's as much as you know about Ireland lol you stupid, fat, overweight, bloated, illiterate, gun polishing, bible thumping, pick up driving American hick lol. I bet you can't even find your own nations capital on a map, most Americans can't lol. Stick a twinky up your ass then take go take a sugar frosted fuck of the end of my big Irish dick.

  • @OpeningSalvoe Heh, as if anyone knew anything about Ireland! Wow, so stupid LMAO! I mean who gives a flying shit about Ireland?

Hey, tell me what's new in Irish Cinema, eh? Ya know, like how Ireland has its world-renowned movie-industry that makes the movies that everyone on the planet wants to see...? No wait! That's not Ireland! That's the Good Ol' USA!

True or False: Raiders of the Lost Ark is an Irish movie.

A better one--T or F: Raiders of the Lost Ark is an American-made movie. :)

  • @WinstonSmith6079 No American would know anything about Ireland that's for sure, most of you don't even know anything about your own country lol. You want Irish movies? The Crying Game, My Left Foot, Once and Six Shooter (all of which won Oscars) not to mention The General, The Commitments, Michael Collins, In the name of the father, The Field, and The Quiet Man thanks for proving what I said about you being a dumb uneducated yank. As for American films don't make me laugh, they're shit, just...

  • @OpeningSalvoe The Crying Game!? I should have known YOU would be responsible for that, you pansy! Shove an IRA pipebomb up your ass and pretend it's the "surprise" penis in The Crying Game.

Stop trying to prove that someone in the world gives a shit about Ireland or that Ireland is worth something! No one cares, pansy.

And you can't even make up your own movie like everyone else. And you have herpes. But at least you have Lucky Charms, you drunken Mick.

  • @WinstonSmith6079 ...car chases gun fights and explosions, THAT'S American films for you, they're crap! Now go away and sob into your kleenex box over the fact that one little change has been made to your favourite movie you NERD.

  • @OpeningSalvoe Yeah, yeah, okay! Someone lives a little bubble--a bubble called Ireland!

Yeah, all American films are so awful. That's why you're here, right? Shutup! You're worthless and have nothing to offer but ADD and dicklessness. You sure don't have any original movies to offer, and you're too stupid to even re-hash anything properly. Even your advice is nothing but pussified, and cowardly catshit.

  • @OpeningSalvoe Just keep with the Lucky Charms and the Irish Spring, whatwith the big economic powerhouse of the world that it's made you BWAAAHAHAHAHA! It's about the best that you'll EVER be able to do in your little flyspeck country. The Nazis AND the Commies would have so mopped up the entire planet with you and every one knows it. If only they cared enough to.

Stay out of the game of the world where the big people play, you drunken cocksucking Mick. You don't belong, see.

  • @WinstonSmith6079 You thick fucking yank Lucky Charms ans Irish Spring are AMERICAN products lol you just keep showing yourself up for the typically dumb American idiot that you are. Yeah what a great superpower America is, $14 TRILLION in debt and the most despised nation on earth, just look at the fucking mess you've made of it, are we all supposed to feel safer now that America has gone and "kicked ass" in the middle east? Yeah what a great job you did on that CLAP CLAP CLAP!!

  • @OpeningSalvoe Oh-no! Not you again! BWAAAAHAHAHAHAHA! LMAO!

  • @WinstonSmith6079

As an Irish-American born in Dublin and raised in North Carolina, not only are you offensive but you're totally embarrassing. Why give Americans a worse name with the rest of the planet with your ignorant garbage? As you can see, people elsewhere see us as uneducated, arrogant, obese, loud, obnoxious idiots, yet here you are reinforcing it like you're embracing that image. Dude I LOVE America but there are those of us who DON'T deserve the reputation people like you give us.

  • @dcwitzke That was a joke, man. I don't know anything about Ireland, not much anyway. The point is that the movie wasn't botched, apparantly, according to another Comment up the thread. So, that's a good thing, eh? hehehehe Well I think so hehehe

  • I have a feeling Lucas must have talked him into this

I don't believe its Spielberg's motivation to destroy the past

  • @MatzoRocks Agreed. Spielberg as already, himself, admitted (in other, more explanatory words) that he never wanted to make ANY fourth Indiana Jones film, and the one that was actually made, with its "interdimensional beings", even less.

  • @WinstonSmith6079

    Yeah george is manipulative

  • He's already ruined Star Wars

  • So does the DVD version have this CGI? I want to get the box set of all four films, but I can't stand CGI. Sadly, it probably does have it. We all know what Lucas did to Star Wars. Someone please give me good news, lol.

  • @FeloniousDrunk No, thankfully this scene hasn't been altered for the DVD version. This altered version was only used for the SyFy channel broadcast.

  • @TheAltair4 Thanks, that's very relieving to know. Why the heck would they do such a stupid and pointless edit? I thought for sure that George Lucas was behind it, haha.

  • @FeloniousDrunk Yeah, i'm pretty sure it was George's idea to alter this scene even though there was really nothing at all wrong with it in the first place. For some reason he's even worse than Spielberg is at not being able to just leave his older films alone and ends up pretty much wrecking them beyond all repair by making exactly these types of unnecessary little "improvements".

  • @TheAltair4 I couldn't agree more.

  • Amen.

  • The movie isn't ruined. Its just...being sold to us again under a bullshit pretense.

    THANKS GEORGE!

  • Jesus fucking christ. So much spaz rage over four seconds.

  • What I don't understand is why Lucas felt the need to do this in the first place. What made him think, "Ya know, we really need to replace that perfectly good-looking cliff shot with some CGI..."

  • It was shot with models then overlaid on a matte painting. The fuck is wrong with you?

  • Have the Laser Discs been touched? I have originals on Laser. I need to look at them.

  • Oh crap. Now shit like this really pisses me off! Why can't this CGI-admirer Lucas not leave his fat fingers off the original versions? I have been a fan of the IJ Trilogy since I was 8 years old and I think digital corrections afterwards take all the old charm those films had...

  • I saw the film a few minutes ago. When this scene came, I was so angry. I had not seen the film in a few years, and I still recognized the shitty replacement they had done. Way to go, assholes. And that is an understatement.

  • @TheMancomb You really need to get yourself a life, and a girlfriend.

  • Gasp! A minor, unnotictable change! The movie is now RUNIED FOREVER!

DAMN YOU GEORGE LUCAS! DAMN YOU TO HELL!

  • @purplebananafish Not noticeable!? What are ya, blind!?

Why replace a REAL cliff-face with a fake, phony one that also LOOKS fake and phony!? What sense does that even make!? ???

And what's so goddamn great about fake and phony anyway!? Ya wanna tell me about that, because more and more (totally unoriginal) movies are all into that these days. What's with that, man!?

  • Well, i agree that these films should just be left alone from editing like this. But you can barely even tell any changes were made here, I don't think it's that big of a deal...

  • Other than the lower contrast, in what way is the CGI version inferior to the original?

  • @Willy105 - The CGI shouldn't be there in the first place.

  • @lookbacktime Why not?

  • What a bunch of whiny bitches, thumbs up if you agree

  • What? This movie was changed too? WTF?!

  • This bewilders me. I've only ever seen this version on TV, two or three times in 2008. It's definitely not in the DVD version.

  • @MikeAM78

what dvd version do you have?????

i have the the quadruble version and it is in there...i checked

  • @thesatanic6 Oh, wow! It is? Crap, I had no idea. I have the first box set called "The Adventures of Indiana Jones," with the first three films and a bonus fourth disc with a documentary and featurettes. No review I've ever read of the four-film bundle pack has mentioned the change, so I thought the films in that set were just straight ports from the previous versions. My bad then.

  • I didn't even know there was a difference and to be honest it is not as bad as you are all making it out to be.

  • This WAS my favorite movie of all time, but now I've seen this my opinion has changed. Lucas and Spielberg are jackasses for changing their classic films in this way. I didn't mind the snake reflection being removed or other MINOR visual corrections because that didn't change the movie or erase some vfx technician's hard work.

  • @lookbacktime its not as much Spielberg as it is Lucas and Lucasfilm though

  • why destroy a classic!

  • All I saw was that the below was blurrier. Either this is a fake comparison, or the CGI was really crappy - if you're trying to convince me that this is the best CGI can do (a shitty, blurry shot), then good luck.

  • The greater question is: Besides nerdy fan boys who live in their moms basement and have never been laid, who gives a shit about this?

  • @crowtservo What does getting "laid" have anything to do with this video? Fact is they have taken one of the coolest movies ever made and they're changing it. Don't watch if you don't care.

  • @crowtservo Ha! This from YOU!

Yeah, I think a LOT more people are gonna care about Raiders of the Lost Ark than about you. And I'm very sure many of them are getting laid a lot more than you are, and not by other gay naked jocks in a group-shower either, see.

Raiders of the Lost Ark > crowtservo So shutup and get the fuck offa computers where you don't belong, crow-eater! We don't serve your kind here, ugga-bugga!

  • The top one is better because the camera tilts to show the car falling (like it's actually happening).

The bottom CGI one has the camera dropping at the same speed as the truck, which doesn't make any sense. Plus, it just looks fake. Less detailed

  • Comment removed

  • HAHA THE TOP ONE IS SO MUCH BETTER. PERIOD!

  • Damn, I was wondering why it looked so weird. Why fuck with something that already works, George?

  • I love how Blind people like Lucas and, sadly even Spielberg are now, just why is it necessary to change shit? Don't they LISTEN to reviews? Don't they SEE what the average person with his opinion says about CGI? It just CONSTANTLY fucks things up if you retouch stuff that doesn't require it. I bet George just sees things like "And the King Kong remake had fantastic CGI" and thinks "Wow, these guys really like CGI don't they?" But it isn't needed because it's CURRENT, not an old masterpiece.

  • Wow. You guys are fucking retards if you think the original looked good. Just like the blue screen shots in Temple Of Doom, this effect looks like shit. I know it's hip to hate CGI on principle, much like the ignorant child who does the opposite of his parents, but I'm damn glad they redid this shot. I remember seeing the re-showing of Raiders in '89 a month before Last Crusade. This shot looked shit then and it looks shit now. I hope this stays in for the Blu-ray release.

  • @hudsonhawk91 You're obviously a little kid incapable of seeing the very obvious point about CGI. There's a reason it's pretty universally disliked in the film fan community, and this redo exemplifies that nicely.

The new shot looks WORSE. LESS DETAIL. LESS COLOR. And the movement is awkward. Hopefully I was succinct enough for someone like you to grasp this.

  • That's so lame. Most people won't care, I suppose, but they had a REAL car thrown off that cliff (or a very convincing and detailed minature)...why replace it with something fake? But I'm biased, I hate CGI and I hate when they add in into classics. Color correction, little nicks here and there, I totally understand. But don't mess with a masterpiece. COUGH GEORGE LUCAS..

  • WTF I saw the original but i didnt know George changed it for TV. The Original is 100 times better what the fuck did he do????!

  • i think spielberg and lucas should be beaten to death by ewoks

  • What was the point of even adding CGI into this scene? It served no purpose. You want to add CGI over the picture of a natural cliff? Why? It's not a big deal, it's just kind of baffling. Leave things alone that don't need fixing. Also, since this movie's supposed to be in Egypt, the cliff shouldn't even be there. :}.

  • @floriszaire145

Some of the matte paintings don't really look so great on a massive monitor in HD or upscaled to HD.

    Eh, but whatever.

I think all the DVDs leave it alone, but a HDTV broadcast changed it?

  • It's better.

  • Looks fine. Can't even tell the difference. Just because it's CGI doesn't mean it's bad.

  • i seriously dont see the difference. i can tell the bottom one is animated, but thats pretty much it. if thats it than people are getting slightly over worked over this.

  • I can understand both sides to this argument, but honestly, my argument would be where did that huge never ending cliff even come from??

  • @baxter102 In widescreen you can see the edge of it off to the left as the car first swings around to get alongside the truck.

  • I don't see what the big deal is, it doesn't change this classic scene in any way.

  • OMG there is a shadow on the rock in like a 2sek scene, damn you George Lucas, DAMN YOU!

  • I like the original more.

  • I think they changed it for continuity purposes like dtwhitney said. If you look at the previous shot, you see only sand dunes and shrubbery. The old Matte painting version had a mountain where there was no mountain in the previous shot. For me I prefer seeing mistakes in classic films. Why? Because subconsciously its what you expect to see every time you watch a classic movie. It makes the experience that much more enjoyable.

  • Also, personally I prefer Matte paintings because its a lost art and you know someone worked their ass off to make a 20 second shot look beautiful. Real is fine, but once in a while its nice to see a work of art incorporated into a live action film. : P

  • Yeah this was a normal change, this happens often when a director notice a mistake in his work. Instead of complaining about a correction of one single mistake, "cashflag" should complain about Indiana Jones 4.

  • But it's nearly 30 years old, instead of making changes to perfect movies Spielber should concentrate on his more recent ones. ...Classic films should be left alone.

  • @ Paul07791:

Agreed. I have never ever in my life seen a movie get fucked up more than for instance starwars, the "digitally remastered" edition. These pathetic, cheap cgi-firework-explosions they implanted nearly made me leave the movietheater. Seriously.

Today, they dont even leave customers a choice: You cant buy the old carpenter-made masterpiece anymore. You must buy the shit-upon ruined version those tasteless, braindead computernerds glued together. What idiots!

  • semi-realistic looking shot vs. Norman Rockwell painting... tough choice isn't it?

  • All I see is a spruced up scene that looks cleaner. I don't see any CGI. Do you haters have anything better to do?

  • Comment removed

  • Wow, are you really that much of a petty fanboy? These scenes are exactly alike you dipshit!!! Just one is cleaned up!

  • Hmmm... I think I prefer the look of the Pixar cliff to the Norman Rockwell painting. But that's just me.

I'm joking of course. You people need to lighten up.

  • There's a real lack of understanding what CGI actually is. And the digitally enhanced scene looks way better btw.

  • no, there isn't...you're fucking retarded.

  • Ignore akroyd, he's a moron. YouTube seems to have many of those, eh? I think it's ignorant to curse a specific technique, namely CGI.

  • dude, just get off Youtube

  • But why didn't they change the scène in Doom where the priest falls in the Croc lake?

  • Comment removed

  • In fact, the terrain seems to match the rest of the scene better than the old version. It's not that big of a difference. It's a subtle change.

  • What are you complaining about? The new one looks so much more reatlistic than that crude matte painting.

  • While I see the difference and completely understand the argument, this is peanuts. It really does not matter at all. Oh, and by the way, it is just a movie. :)

  • wait, is the blu ray dvd release going to have CGI "enhancements"??

  • the old one actually looks better

  • I can't even tell the difference aside from color.

  • I say leave the original alone... let it stand as a cornerstone in time - the 'not-so-good' effects withstanding. I feel the same way about the original Star Wars - adding all the other crap makes it look to campy.

  • Campy stuff can be decent, but I agree with you..."renevating" a movie just to make it look good is more than likely going to be the killing stroke to something better left untouched!

  • Exactly. Like adding air conditioning to a Model A...

  • I think the best way to say it is "If the milk tastes good, you don't piss in it." Seriously, classic films being re-done for what? So they can charge a bunch of us extra cash to see a new fx shot?

  • The truck falling also blends in like it should look in real life in the new one.

  • The new one does look a lot better. The old one on the top is a static view of the truck falling, and it stands out from the background too much.

The new one on the bottom falls with the truck, you can see the truck on the road sink away as you fall away from it and feel the depth of the cliff.

  • why not?

  • The fact is the vast majority of the film going public DO NOT CARE about this kind of crap. It's a total waste of money.

  • What does it cost Georgie-Boy a small fortune to redo this shot. This man has some serious insecurities. Spielberg too.

  • CGI should always be kept to a minimum, overuse is not revoluntionary in the slightest. It's just lazy filmaking.

  • Because we need a shadow for the truck

  • First of all, the bottom clip is out of focus from start to finish; not just with the CGI insert, and certainly not because of it. The only real difference is that one is a simple panning shot (vertical) while the other is more of a tracking shot meant to evoke the virtual sensation of falling off the cliff. Its kinda neat looking on its own.

  • No, I dont think it was particularly necessary, but neither was making the movie in the first place. Its not like it somehow gets in the way of the storytelling. The real question is: why are you complaining about it, just because you can?

Aaah, yes.. the world of elitist, sanctimonious fanboys; you will never find a more retched hive of scum and villainy.

  • the douche-bag, blind, "sanctimonious fanboys" are the ones that swallow whatever Citiizen Lucas forces down their throats just because it's him. Idiots like you were perfectly satirized in two separate South Park episodes. Hope it hurt.

  • I agree that CGI 'enhancements' are a waste of time but you could have chosen a better example to illustrate your point. Having said that, it annoys me seeing this and not noticing it before, meaning that there are probably more examples of this pointless enhancing than we first realise - how much money does Lucas and Spielberg spend doing these pointless little 'tweaks'? Idiots.

  • If I was a director, I'd have a zero-tolerance policy towards CG, no questions asked, no matter how much it cost me.

    Bring back puppets, damnit!

  • Have you seen the Vogons in The Hitchhikers Guide to the Galaxy? They look amazing, more so when they talk.

  • yes they do! im glad someone actually decided to stoy away from all this cgi bullshit for once. PS i loved the hitchhikers guide to the galaxy

  • looks the same to me...nothing like greedo shooting first

  • Sorry,but I can't see a difference,can someone explain?

  • Your upset about this?! I probably wouldn't have even noticed a shot like that, you anti CGI morons need to get a life.

  • Comment removed

  • you need to get a life other than calling people morons and how superior your brain is.... get off of Youtube!!!

  • Thats your answer to everything "Get off youtube" Well I've got news for you mr. no original content of my own I'm not going anywhere SO THERE! HA! HA! HA! HA! HA! HA! HA! HA! HA!

  • eh?????? thats it? you're going to torment me by not getting of of Youtube?? just when I thought you couldn't get any stupider.....

  • Maybe it's just the youtube video quality, but am I supposed to be seeing a difference?

  • In the new one... the camera follows like its falling as well... I like the original much more. The original looks like the camera is on the edge of the canyon, and it just tilts down. ... not like a cameraman did a peter pan off a cliff to film something. CG is so lame sometimes

  • What the fuck? The whole shot looks much worse. I'm generally accepting of most of the changes to the Star Wars films, but this goes beyond unnecessary. Just... why? I'm just glad this didn't make it onto any of the DVD releases... yet. On another note, I hate when people say "It's just a movie." It's a discredit the entire art of film making.

  • it's just a movie..........:)

  • There are several reasons why this sucks. But the biggest reason is our kids, if we choose to have any, aren't going to grow up with the same movie we did. We should just not have kids. There are several reasons why kids suck. But the biggest reason is that kids' movies suck (and so does their music).

  • The new CGI shadow looks to be in the wrong place.

The old one lacks a shadow but personally that draws me to the falling truck, whereas the new one draws me to the truck and shadow and just makes me think "hmm, CGI".

Maybe it is in the right place, but it's too "bright" (contrasted?) and noticeable anyway.

I prefer to not notice what special effects lack, than to notice errors in what they include which removes me from the film to reflect on the bullshit of hollywood :)

    CGI failure, imo.

  • whoa whoa whoa its a MOVIE people! What are you so angry about? just cuz some dude edited it a bit? get a life!

  • Amen!

  • Why is anybody making a fuss at all. This was never even done.

  • What a shame! They had a second actor killed in a car crash, and for what? A marginally better background scenery or higher resolution? I would think human life is worth more than that.

  • the CGI version is not identical and it looks very weak.

  • wait, what? when was this "change" done? i didnt notice it on the DVD. i think the OP is stupid.

  • Was it originally model/matte painting?

Still the original on my DVD

  • The original looks better anyway why would they change it

  • I've seen this movie probably once a year or more since 1981 - if you hadn't shown me, I wouldn't even have noticed the shot was replaced. That says two things:

    1) the new CGI work was unnecessary

    2) it's not worth obsessing over

  • Oh my good nooo! they raped him! O my goood!

  • CGI rules I love CGI i HAD SEX WITH IT!!! OHHHHH YEEEEAAAAAA

  • Why? Because it looks more realistic in 1080p High definition you morons.

  • Who the Hell even notices shit like that? Oh wait? GEEKS!!! Yes. Probably when they tried to remaster for DVD/ Blu-ray/HD the model of that cliff stood out as a model so they replaced it. Would you have preferred to watch it on a 48 inch TV and it look like an HO train set?

  • ...wha?

  • your dumb

  • So george lucas has been using green screens since episode 4. What do you think it is? How do you think that technology works? Maybe you should learn something about how a special effect is made before you call people dumb. CG doesn't automatically mean three dimensional rendered image through some software. You guys are just trolls or idiots. Probably both.

  • your dumb again

  • Actually, the 'Green-screening' process can be done without the use of computers at all, CGI is computer-generated imagery with the specifics being 3D imagery, so you are wrong on both fronts.

The original shot was done with miniatures and clever compositing using non-computer techniques.

And for extra credit: Did you know that you can do things without using computers? No Way! Who would have thought.

  • In all the model shots in the Original Star Wars and Indy films the camera was COMPUTER CONTROLLED Dumb-ass!

  • Computer controlled, not CGI.

  • Still they use computers. Either way, someone builds either a physical or 3D CG model and animated by a human using a computer. I've seen model work look like shit too. There's good model work and bad model work. And so there is good CGI and bad CGI. Nothing is ever perfect and someone is always going to bitch.
