  • Still one of the funniest routines ever. He and Earthquake are my favorites.

  • "I gotta hit a lucky streak. Or think of a craft project." LMAO!!

  • He doesn't need luck. He's already famous. Sorry you are late.

  • Sorry, I find this pretty boring and unfunny. Comedic taste is relative :) Luckily, lots of variety out there. Good luck to him though.

  • BTW, Jake Johannsen has been on Letterman 41 times as of today.

  • this gu....HOLY SHIT MY LIGHTER FELL OFF MY LAP AND SCARED THE SHIT OUTTA ME...thought it was a mouse! Any, wow, fuck, uhh, yeah, this guy is like fuck you guys, where was youtube 20 years ago!

  • Wow!! His jokes suck ass!!! He just says the obvious or rambles on without a punchline. A broken air conditioner tells better jokes than him.

  • @fttp211 fuck off, this isn't shit he is one of the best comics I've ever seen. If you say different you're a fucking fool

  • @JakeBonculio

You don't seem to know colloquial English very well (which strikes me as odd as your profile says that you're from the US). When fttp211 called Jake Johannen "quality shit", that was a compliment (which is also pretty obvious from the rest of his comment).

  • Jake is quality shit. He's for those who would buy the Pirellis. For those that know the difference. Dane Cook and Brian Regan are for the lowest common denominator that buy the Hankooks.

  • I miss this guy still the best in the comedic biz. Seriously, when I preform I try to emulate this guy one of my all time fav's

  • I have fond memories of guys like him and Brian Regan being on cable. I just can't enjoy the newer comedians like Sarah Silverman. Even though you recognize they're "clever," it really puts a damper on things when you suspect a comedian would be a complete asshole if you ever met them in person.

  • I really wish this special were commercially available. I'd definitely buy it. Considering how well-regarded it seems to be, and how popular "classic" standup is, you'd think the company would find it worth it to release it.

  • Thanks for uploading this awesome video..

You keep mentioning how Jake is a clean comic and I believe he is as clean and funny as Jerry Seinfeld, so could you please tell me other clean comics as I'm really ticked off of these raunchy stand ups!!

    Thank you again:)

  • not family friendly, but still cleaner than most comedians.

  • Genius. Pure genius.

  • Wow...Save for the design...toasters haven't changed in over 20 years...lol!

  • awesome

    hahahahaha

  • Loved this when we first saw it in 1991 and still love it now. Best one liners ever! My husband and I quote him all the time.

  • I love how nerdy-awkward he is! Probably the funniest thing I've ever seen/heard X D

  • this is my all-time favorite stand-up performance ever. i quote from this weekly. i had this on vhs that i taped the night it aired but loaned the tape years ago & have been without it ever since. i've searched & searched for this & now i can smile -- as well as foist it upon my friends that i've ranted to about it. THANK YOU!!!

  • this will take about an hour, and five seconds

  • this is the funniest shit ever made. and i always knew people were really aliens laughing at me when i do stuff.

  • He does say f*ck, so it is not as clean as I thought.

But he is very funny! He know how to just be funny!

  • Great show! The only problem is the usual; audience clapping way too much, interrupting the act over and over again. Why don't people learn to be quiet(er) and just give the comedian a long standing ovation in the end.

  • Man, this was really some good stuff! : )

I discovered this guy from his guest appearance in the dr katz show, the animation serie. If you do not know the show, check it out and meet some more loons.

Also people, I am working on a major video project to set the record straight and present the truth about Islam, yes, I am a Muslim. Yes, keep breathing.... lol.

  • My power is beyond your understanding!

  • He cusses, just not alot. I always thought he was funny.

  • Seinfeld is a big fan of this man

  • this guy has been consistently funny for a long time now.

The new(er) HBO special is great

  • best 1:00:5 of my life mabey

  • This guy seems like he complains nonstop and is absolutely never content. Perfect comedian. Love it.

  • This guy is not "squeaky clean. He can get a little "blue" as the situation calls for it. What is refreshing is that he does not RELY on 4 letter words and sex talk to gain audience approval. Too many comics can't complete a short sentence without "f" words or "c" words being most of it. I shut them off. I'm not a puritan by any stretch but I can't see the humor in a consistent flow of filth.

  • Wide-loaf, high resolution toast!

  • Am I the only one that sees Ellen Degeneres in Jake's comedic style? I would imagine he came before her. (Hmm, maybe not the best sentence to use.) I couldn't help but see it, somehow.

  • @2ndhandsoul You're right, same pauses for comedic timing.

  • @2ndhandsoul

Yeah, she totaly plagerized his bit about the inflight nuts.

I like her, but she lifted that from him.

  • @2ndhandsoul

    i agree with you.

ellen degenerate is disgusting is so many ways. holy sh-t i hate her.

  • Hal Emmerich? :P

    {MGS1 ;D}

  • Clean? He says fuck you at 4:28

  • YAAAAAAAAAHHHHHHNNN! Boring

  • My sister and I used to watch this all the time, love it!

  • it took me a second to get used to his delivery, but this is a great set.

  • lol. that was great XDXD

  • I think Jake would be a great character actor, albeit the same kind of character. He's so expressive and obviously puts the effort into understanding the emotion behind his words.

  • I think most of us originally saw it in 1991 when it was relevant and just enjoy reminiscing. Plus, it's rare to find a clean comic with chops.

  • @nybrian5 yeah...Jake's very funny... incredibly so...to people with enough intelligence to understand it. Those "high RPM, low IQ" types will not comprehend the humor at all. Steer them towards "Def Comedy Jam" or "Jackass".

  • I can't tell you. It's a secret.

  • This might be the funniest stand up I have ever seen and I am obsessed with stand up! How have I missed him until now? Once I saw him on Letterman or something but it wasn't long enough to make an impression

  • It is the funniest. Add in the fact that he's a clean comic. This set of Jake's was perfectly written and delivered. It is part of TV Guide's Top 20 Funniest Things Ever to Appear on TV. Glad you enjoyed it.

  • @lfgalbraith

I'm 42, have always been a HUGE Carlin fan. He will be sadly sadly missed. I figured it would be a while before I laughed that hard at a comedian again, but I felt the same way you you did when I saw his recent show called "I Love You". HILARIOUS! I couldn't believe I'd never really heard of this guy. Carlin tried to use his face, as best he could. But this guy's got it naturally. He's got some looks that are just sick funny! I'll watch this one tonight!

  • @lfgalbraith I agree! I really really wish that he'd do more, there's very little available to watch.

  • Saw him live about 4 years ago and it was amazing. It kinda funny how out of date some of these skits are considering this was filmed in the 1990's. No cells phones, airport procedures, locking your keys in the car (I have an Audi and have to lock my car from the outside so I cannot lock them in my car), Beta/Vhs, etc.

  • Grass skirts and chicken bones!!!

  • What year was this?

  • 1991

  • lmao this is the first time i see him. hes a fucking genius!

  • THEY MIGHT BE GIANTS at the end. awesome

  • I love the flea part. My dog has fleas and they act just like he said. LOL.

  • I was the taping of this! My face hurt for days I was laughing so hard. It was filmed at the Boulder Theatre in Boulder, Colo., and awesome Art Deco theatre. The Starry Night backdrop was amazing.

  • If you've never seen him live...do so. I have never laughed so hard in my life.

  • I love david cross but I can't believe he stole jake's locking his keys in the car bit! Shocking;y similar.

  • Thanks!!!!

One of my favorites...along with Richard Jeni

  • Great show, but the intro bit is horrible.

  • He looks a lot like Wierd Al

  • oh gawd.... i remember watching this when it first was aired on HBO... and I still have the VCR tape i recorded it on lol.

he's very very funny, rock on

  • lol its been so long since Ive seen the word "VCR" it looked wrong like I didnt know what it was! haha!

This is such a great routine, and awesome for the full hour!!! 5 stars. Jake has such intelligent humor, class act, been around a long time.

  • @Natural8Mystic

HA! we had this on tape (VHS not that high resolution BETA stuff!) too. But the VCR ate the tape. So glad this is on youtube!

  • he reminds me of robocop, he's the only comedian that i've ever seen that doesnt rely on cussing or sex for comedic humor. he is just naturally a funny person. and seems lik ehe would be awesome to talk to

  • You should check out Brian Regan.....clean comics are hard to find.

  • Thanks for posting Jake! My brothers and I so loved watching this very show years ago. It brings back funny memories.

  • The dude is great... thanks for posting this lengthy video.

  • I remember him from years ago. SOOOO funny. Thanks for posting this!

  • I am SO glad to find this. Back in 1993 I saw an HBO special (different than this one) he had done and LOVED it! I taped it and watched it over and over again until it accidentally got recorded over. Since then I have looked for any video footage of him and FINALLY found this! SO HAPPY!!!

    Thanks for sharing.

  • this makes me happy

  • this guy is the funniest comedian ever!

  • Thank you for putting this video up. I love Jake's material.

  • I saw Jake last Friday at Acme Comedy Club. He is definitely one great comedian!

  • youtube longest video! :D

  • Very casual, but still hilarious and for some odd reason the look of his reminds me of Al Yankovic.

  • Jake is amazing. Saw him live in Indianapolis several years ago. What delivery! My fave comedian.

  • Man what a performer. I first heard him on Sat. Radio on the way home from work. This guy is brilliant.

  • I have been looking for this video for years!! Thanks to one who posted it.

  • He is one of the base in the business.

    Super nice guy, too.

  • I remember when this first aired on HBO. I watched it at least 3 times, if not more, and laughed my ass off each and every time. Jake Johannsen is so underrated it's a crime. Thank you so much for posting it!

  • Holy shit! I taped this eons ago when it originally aired on HBO. Unfortunetly, I lost the tape a while ago.

Thank you so much for posting this comedy gem.

  • still one of the all-time best stand up routines ever. thx for uploading this.

  • lmao he is so funny!!!!! i juss saw a show of his today on comedy central he made me laugh sooooo hard.

  • Awesome! nybrian5 that 1990 concert is on HBOC on April 19th at 6:30pm and again on the 21st at 3pm. Record it!
