@Commonsense11111 - The rocks produce oxygen as they burn, so they're self-sustaining........ as the story goes. Looks like things on Mars function differently than on earth...... ;-)
Gee... their capsules are made out of tissue thin tin. Now what do you think the chances are that you will run across your crash landed buddy on Mars which has more land area than the Earth? Pretty slim.
Yes, that line was obviously dubbed over. Some rewriting must have been done in post-production.
"Robinson Crusoe on Mars" was unfortunately saddled with a title that made it sound like a Disney film. In fact, Disney did release the rather lame comedy "Lt. Robin Crusoe, U.S.N.," starring Dick Van Dyke, in 1966. It had nothing to do with Mars.
I read online that the atmosphere on Mars is 95% carbon dioxide, 3% nitrogen, 1.6% argon, and contains traces of oxygen, water, and methane and is quite dusty. It is generally cold to -200 F at the poles in winter. But on rare summer days it can be as high as 80F! But it rarely goes above 32 degrees.
When this movie was made in 1964, it was completely plausible that Mars might have enough oxygen to breathe with an occasional boost from an O2 tank, and surface temperatures comfortable enough to walk around in shirtsleeves. There was just a lot about the planet we didn't know then -- such as the fact that the Martian "canals" are neither artifical nor natural. In fact, they don't exist at all.
@bxxder2008 have you considered counseling?
it is about as possible to store enough oxygen in a rock to burn it, as it is for you to get a date with someone other than your sister.

Why did they have to leave the main ship if the main ship is able to orbit still?

Mac probably does have these problems licked, because he probably brought his utility belt.

Not to mention surface gravity of Mars is approximately 1/3 that of Earth.

I would not try to breath out of an oxygen bottel which delivers about 2000psi before the regulator.

NASA (nazi) has been going back and forth to Mars since the 50s. so this isn't too far off the mark.

Sadly, the surface pressure on the real Mars is the same as at 100,000 feet on Earth.

how is there so little oxygen to breath, but enough oxygen for the fire to burn?
Commonsense11111 2 years ago 13
maybe burning require less Oxygen. or maybe that yellow material has some O2 on it.

I ride in a power wheelchair that uses a charger. The chair can take me around all day on an overnight charge.
Very much like the vehicles used on the moon. Ask me if space travel and sci-fi forethought like this movie are important?
You better believe it.

but the real problem is the lack of pressure!!!
he can't open and close the helmet everytime, dear God!!!!!

since oxygen feeds fire, he should figure out a way to get hpld of the oxygen, like those rocks apparently have.
