Many of us in America who had access to premium cable were able to see the original Life on Mars on BBC America. But those of us who only have a tv antenna had to wait 2 years before an American version of the show could be presented on a major network. I wasn't able to find Life on Mars on DVD
I am happy the English had their version, and I am glad they liked it. I, however, live in America and have no desire to see their version so I am equally glad we have our own and it is my favorite show currently playing.
They did try to remake Spaced; it got scrapped at the eleventh hour, thank god. However, it did bring us a U.S. release of the show on DVD, so that was a plus...
American version of the Office worked. But the American version of Coupling was complete garbage. After one episode Life on Mars looks pretty good. I'll keep watching.
I just watched the american version. although it was quite enjoyable in parts, i dont think they should of slavishly follow more or less the same dialogue or plot
This show is such a waist of money. There is already a version of it and the show was done pretty well- there is no need for an American version of this show. Why couldn't ABC show the original one and come up something good on it's own? But then again the producers of the original show, probably got crap loads of money..SO what do I know.
It's not a waste of money at all. This American version is actually pretty good. Harvey Keitel makes a great New York counterpart to the original Gene Hunt. Nuff said.
Life on mars in the UK was a brilliantly written and produced series, but I can completely understand why they wanted to remake it for the American market. American audiences cannot relate to the things we find nostalgic about 1973 here in the UK, they need to have things they relate to. Hopefully they wont make a mess of this brilliant programme.
I loved this promo too! I could swear that announcer was Ernie Anderson, "The Voice of ABC," come back to life! Let's hope the show is half as good. Thanks for posting it.
The announcer says a New York Cop but, this promo shows scenes from the failed L.A. version of the pilot episode.

I just hope the plot isn't the same. I've read the ending on the British one... And I don't like it. It just pisses me off.

I liked the promo smart idea, but I don't know if I can watch. No Philip Glenister no John Simm it just isn't Life on Mars.
