  • amos and andy were the most popular radio show in the 30s bar none, ask your grandparents

  • Awesome piece of history this was I thoroughly enjoyed this toon from the past and enjoyed every second of it has both historical value as well as entertainment value.

  • Should have cut 30 seconds of the beginning off, the end is more important.

  • LOL....Amos and Andy look a helluva lot brighter than those annoying rap goons you see all over the place nowadays.

  • You know I'm 59 stinkin' years old and I happened to stumble across this. Until now I was totally clueless that there were Amos n Andy cartoons.

  • good point nwajoe.

  • This is way funnier than that shitty Boondocks.

  • The twisted thing is a whole sub-industry existed in Hollywood based on humiliating black people.

I flipped through a book on the "Race" films. You can't imagine how many familiar faces I saw wearing blackface.

I guess they figured for poor whites putting another group down was a (pathetic) way to feel better.

  • Now THIS is racist , but funny.

  • I'm confused about why it's considered offensive that Amos and Andy were voiced by white men. The Simpsons have ethnic characters voiced by whites and I have never heard a complaint about that. I won't excuse the thick lipped caricature, but this story, like a lot of Amos and Andy stories, is standard sitcom/cartoon fair. Amos and Andy aren't depicted as bright, but neither are Homer and Barney or Fred and Barney or Ralph Cramden and Ed Norton. The drawings are bad, the story is funny.

  • Haha I love the constant Duke Ellington song.

  • Actually, Andy reminds me of Homer Simpson. Even looks a lot like him.

  • White people used to enslave each other thousands of years ago. Egyptians had Hebrew slaves, but some black Egyptians who were rich actually had white hebrew slaves. Granted the vast majority of black people who lived in the region were slaves to the Egyptains and their labor created that ancient civilization including the pyramids. The point is humans have oppressed/enslaved their own kind since the dawn of civilization, probably even before that. This will never change, so get over it.

  • People who think this is racist just want everyone to feel sorry for them and kiss there ass and never question there judgement or opinions. Then they cheer when O.J. gets away with double murder and Michael Jackson molestes young boys.

  • i could give 2 shits if people people think its racist i think its fuuny.what is wrong with whites hating blacks? dogs hate cats. muslims hate jews.niggers hate work.hate hate hate bla bla bla who gives a shit?

  • LOL when his face went white

  • Hey! Wheres the rest of it! Show it all or none.

  • Live with it! That's 1934. It's history.

We're hopefully well on our way to ignoring

race in dealing with our fellow humans. The

next step is equal pride. Getting out of that

"poor me" I'm a black guy rut. With PRIDE,

    you can never be insulted.

  • Activists teach us that believing that race exists, makes you racist. At the same time, they teach us that all Whites are racist.

  • I loves dat cartoon. I gots no problem wit it.

  • Over my life's work history I have worked with several real African's and have little respect for what African-Americans. A lot of what is today called racism had nothing to do with racism in its day. In 1963 while in the military everybody enjoyed the show Amos n Andy even by the black population. It was just good entertainment. Get over it.

  • I (waves his finger at the camera) am not a racist. :)

  • Soulja4lyfe,

It is inconsiderate (extremely selfish and self-centered) towards other readers (Whites and assimilated Blacks) to use profanity and poor spelling.

  • dont u mean craccas and uncle toms

  • you fucking idiot.

  • my mothers white so i dont have problem with white people its the fact that think we should allow slavery roll off our baccs when slavery ended 150 yrs ago but its what yall did after that during and after the recontruction read some books preferably "At the Hands of Persons Unknown" by phillip dray

    its an eye opener

  • Slavery is one of the most evil things that men can do to one another. It has been seen in ancient Egypt and forward through history. It is important to remember, that is how we learn and evolve. The problem is that most people are so far removed from the horrors of yesterday that they bear no responsibility for those horrors. That is the past. This is the present, and I hope that in the future we respect each others differences instead of hating.

  • no wonder why yall whine saying this isnt rasict you old ass honkys probably used to watch this with your "house nigga" mammy takin care of your stringy haired ass

you muthafuccas smell like wet dogs and old ham

  • Many whites have died for the rights of black people. Many whites were against slavery and racism. Your hatred for and attitude towards whites just perpetuates ignorance and racism. Racism=Ignorance; wether White to Black or Black to White... or to any other race.

  • ha i only know of one white actually dying for the abolitionist cause and that was john brown everyone else in history just talked very loud against slavery and the mistreatment of blacks slaves were only freed as a tatic against the south

  • @SarcasmForDummies I'm black and I acknowledge that not all whites are racist. I wish CBS would release the Amos and Andy show on dvd

  • AS a priest, I can only say..."shame, shame, shame." Although Jesus would not approve I will also respectfully ask that you take the pillow case of your head and shove it up your...

  • "AS a priest, I can only say..."shame, shame, shame."

And it was produced almost 75 years ago. I'm sure that even in your own church practices and conditions existed at the same time that we'd now deem shameful. JDPUTT is right with his comment: if you have pride in your people, your family, and yourself, this stuff can't insult you.

  • the ironic thing is that american blacks really dislike haitians.

  • y dont y bitch ass craccers say what u really think i cant stand yall biggest hypocrits in the world all yall do is whine especially now and some of yall feel yall are discriminated against when through out history thats all yall do whether it be blacks, muslims, asians or jus any people yall feel are indiginous and the ones that say this isnt racist UR ONE

  • Your understanding of history, like your spelling, is pathetic.

  • i like how the 'this is racist, and i'm offended' posters

tend to steal an adam sander joke from that movie... which one...

"where are you going next, a clan meeting?"

    very original and innovating comments.

  • I don't find this racist-these are caricatures. They are not necessarily meant to be accurate portrayals. TV and movies have a long history of using caricatures. Now if this offends you, then it's real simple. Don't watch it.

  • this is a satirical cartoon so it was made at the expense of black people and these caricatures are outlandish and it makes ignorant people like yourself generalize blacc people

  • Racism = anything Blacks don't like.

  • 100% correct. Try having the month of March as white history month... never happen, it would be "racist".

  • THIS ISNT AN ACCURATE DEPICTION OF BLACK PEOPLE. where is the crack? where is the guns? where are the sneekers? where am the hos? why are their pants pulled up? where is the anger? dis am racist!!

  • I'm still 'laughing' at this SHIT!

  • So racist but I have an affinity for this. I used to own the video of this so it holds some memories for me. Racist but I liked it. In no way coning it but it's not as racist as they could have made it. Kingpin comes off pretty good. It's very Honeymooner-ish but with out the wives. Thanx for uploading this.

  • They should air this on B.E.T.

  • I loved it!

    Those boys are a hoot!

But Amos & Andy don't represent any negros I know.

  • Racism is/has become a meaningless term.

  • you're speaking of the planet you live on right? because if your refering to planet earth Racism is still very much alive. My advice to you is to find out what racism is then you would'nt make statements based on a lie

  • So who animated this toon anyways?

  • HAHAHAHAHA, that shit from back in the day was funny as hell

  • This is the epitome of racism. This shit was the norm back in the day....but it is also the reason blacks are stereo typed nowadays. Think about it. In a country of 300 million people, Blacks make up 12% but still get shat on like no ther since we got here.

  • Now listen heah boy. De sowf is why dis be existin. Just ask Shirly Q. Liquor on youtube.

  • this is amazing, in the same way that the war propoganda films are amazing. People back then didn't think twice about this shit. It's both frightening and nauseating, but important. Jesus Christ this is shudder inducing.

  • this is brilliant!

  • that Amoes sure am funny!

  • i never seen anything so racist like this... it's not by what they are saying, just look at how hey made the blacks look. can any white man back then say that they ever saw someone look like that. the skin is way to dark, and the lips are just huge... if a black person made a cartoon where whites had no butts and always said dude or any other thing that you guys would be offended.

  • Shut the fuck up! Ok! Just shut the fuck up! I'm tired of people like you watching classics like this, and calling them racist! If you don't like it, then don't watch it!

  • You don't think this is racist? You got some fuckin serious issues if you don't! People watch it just to see how racist cartoons were back then!

Yeah, you probably think Bartman kept the sorry ass Cubs from winning the World Series too!

    Fuckin Loser!

Now, get back to your KKK meeting!!

  • You... You're kidding, right?? Please tell me that you're not really that ignorant to believe anything you wrote up there.

  • Don't get me wrong, but the live TV series was nice. But I'm not felling these sambo-like characters used for the cartoon verions

  • I saw a cartoon where this Aunt Jemima type hopped up on a chair to escape a mouse and a razor and a pair of dice fell out of her apron pocket

  • That was a Tom And Jerry Cartoon

  • it was ? that was funny as hell .

  • People wanted to SEE radio characters Amos & Andy in theaters...but the 1930 film Check and Doublecheck which featured the white voice actors in BLACKFACE was an embarrassment. Are these cartoons any more offensive than Elmer Fudd or Homer Simpson?

  • i seen this shit years ago, and just cause i laughed at it don't mean it wasn't on no racist shit, how about put'n up that lazy town clip that was a on there yell

  • The music in the background is Duke Ellington.

  • This is Funny.

Year 1936 and how much money just to make one movie. That time was dangerous for black people to make movies, not?

  • this one was boring.

  • this is so sad. =(

  • I think this is the only country that blows stereotypes and caricatures out of proportion. Everywhere else it seems to be taken as a loving gesture rather than an offensive jab.

  • Thats because this country has an often forgetton history of racism, genecide, profiling, and other sick acts against people of every color except for white.....In a perfect world, it wouldnt be an issue, but check out history and see why it is. Read the peoples history of the united states, by howerd zen.

  • Yet those poor people of color you feel so sorry for keep scheming to come live here.

  • Why not cut out another 24 seconds, like when "Box the shadow" is repeated 3 times, that way you can get the ending in.

  • oh relax

  • No shit! Jeez!!

  • You equate a vintage animated cartoon based on racial stereotypes with the horrific murder of millions of Jewish people?

I do understand your point, though. What is ironic though is that these cartoons were emmencely popular with African Americans at the time.

Another intersting tidbit is that "Speedy Gonzales" was canned from the Cartoon Network because of the stereotypical depictions of Mexicans. However, it remains very popular all over Latin America!

  • because people eat what they are fed doesn't make it good for them but for historical reasons these are interesting

  • I wasn't aware 'Speedy Gonzales' was censored because of 'racial stereotypes' - good gosh! how absurd! I remember those cartoons from my childhood which, of course, were nothing but innocent fun. Incidentally, thanks for uploading these - as well as your comments. They speak to my perspective, also.

  • @rmckay2 this is racist. it called blackface. they made blacks talk stupid with big white powder lips

  • ok thank you, now please post some more.

  • hi chelcie3. I got it from a box set I bought off Amazon.com. I paid $39 for every Amos and Andy cartoon, tv sitcom and extras ever made (on 15 DVDs). Since these shows are so old, they are no longer copywritten, so I'll be uploading a lot more soon!

  • Please tell me where you got this.
