  • yoga is old, feldenkrais is new. the 2 cannot be compared. feldenkrais was only possible through our development of culture, medicine, psychology etc etc. just like the iphone, it is new.

  • really well done, basic but fast, thanks

  • Yrbabuena - Thanks for your comments, it's good to have some feedback. I did not create the video, I am only sharing it, but I would have to agree - It would be nice to have a version without the music as some people do find it annoying.

The video is open-source and licensed under a creative commons agreement. I suppose if someone want to take the time, they could take the video and edit the sound out.

    cheers! - Ryan

  • Good video, but please get rid of the music! It is annoying, distracting, and interferes with the message.

I'd show this to friends, but the music is WAY too irritating and distracting to understand the description of Feld during the class session views. It isn't so interfering during the interviews, but absolutely needs to be deleted (and no other music put in) during the class session views. Also, pls. use greater economic class diversity in the interviewees, not just high-brow people.

  • many years ago this was apart of the exercises program i was taking many years ago

  • Can you please tell me the title of the ATM lesson Frederick Schjang is teaching in the video? I am a Feldenkrais practitioner and have been trying to find the tile of this lesson for a while--- thank you in advance!

  • With my spinal problems, I've tried it all. Only a medically trained chiropractic doctor can help solve serious problems.

A massage may feel good, but the spine is nota thing to mess with.

  • @cathPars

    It's not massage

  • is this pretty much the same as yoga?

  • @tune5k yoga is a combination of methods to end suffering and gain spiritual love and devotion to the truth....this method is very much a part of yoga.....but really, yoga has no limits...that it's beauty :)

  • @tune5k No, it is not the same as yoga, but it can enhance a yoga practice. The Feldenkrais Method works with the brain and the central nervous system, through movement, opening up new, more efficient options for movement.

  • I hope this is working! I have my first class tomorrow

  • It takes 36 seconds of good-for-nothing before the video actually starts. Thumb down...

  • @electricfrequent you can add the following to the link to skip the not very interesting start of the video: #t=33s

  • I took my first Feldenkreis lesson today and walked out of the exercise room with a different posture and different walking technique. Not that a miracle would happen, simply I was not given any particular INSTRUCTION how to do those simple exercises, just a general direction what are we going to do and was left to develop my own approach to perform the exercise or movement without comparing myself with others. And that's all to it, not the outcome but the path to it. Brilliant.

  • The methodical process of the Feldenkrais method gave me a keener bio-feedback experience than I experienced with yoga. Tapping into my nervous system and the inner world of sensations has allowed opportunities to find the effortlessness of movement. Emotions can spontaneously arise as walls come down. I've found Peter Levine's (Waking the Tiger) somatic experiencing to be equally immeasurable in present-body-experience exploration. I highly recommend exploring these avenues of self-discovery.

  • Many Tai Chi masters and teachers of Yoga in the course of history have come up with their own take on things after many years of dedicated practice and started their own schools. In that sense, Dr. Feldenkrais was definitely a master of his Art.

What makes this body art unique, is it's extreme gentleness and accessibility to people of all levels of ability. It is equally helpful to Olympic atheletes, office workers, and people coping with injury or disability.

  • Feldenkrais opened my eyes to a universe that exists within my own body. The discovery process seems to me like a form of moving meditation and the freedom reaped from embarking on this discovery is surprising and delightful. Don't be fooled by how uneventful it may look! It is far from uneventful.

  • Very informative

  • Can this help me with my RSI and CTS problems? What are the best books/dvds I could get to start learning?

  • looks like physical therapy to me.

  • Feldenkrais does not have poses like in yoga, but movements. It is lower impact, focusing on the mental more than the physical. They are similar in many ways, and both are beneficial. I enjoy both yoga and Feldenkrais; I prefer Feldenkrais when I want something easier.

  • I loved Feldenkrais so much I produced a dvd series so I could do it at home too! It's at Amazon or ebay and it's called Comfort Zone, Feeling Younger Workout: Improving Posture and Relaxing Shoulders,Relieving Tension in the Neck and Spine, and Releasing the Lower Back.

  • i am looking into this. how is this different from real good yoga?

  • if you really look at it this system is from yoga and tai chi he just trademarked it but this knowledge was already known for thousands of years in Asia. the concious movements with grace will enhance mental emotional states. I don't understand how someone can credit themselves for having created something that already existed. but hey that's the logic of our world today.

  • i guess it's once source for similar info.

do you know if there is anything that helps increase dexterity and coordination. i have two left arms and two right feet.

  • "I don't understand how someone can credit themselves for having created something that already existed. "

That's because you don't understand what you're talking about. But hey, that IS the logic of our world today.

  • i do feldenkrais with my piano teacher!

  • Feldenkrais was pupil of F.M. Alexander, check it out.

  • Wow! This is SO informative and so well done! Great video!

  • This is an excellent representation of the magic of this Method. If you have not experienced Feldenkrais work and you are interested in taking responsibility for your own healing, find a practitioner or a class near you, and try it for at least three sessions. You'll be amazed, I guarantee it.

  • I went to one of these classes and it was really interesting. It was like re-teaching the body how to move.

  • well done

  • Wow, this is very informative, relaxing, and makes me want to sign up!
