  • You, sir, rule. I'm wanting to make my own (fully functional of course) hauberk and not "start out small". I'll be going the smaller gauge rings route with stainless steel. More rings needed to make it but will be lighter and cheaper overall. Of course one advantage of your hauberk being heavy is that fewer people will be wanting to borrow it (for very long anyway).

  • Your so right, when they lift it up, they totally change their minds on the stuff, haha.

  • hm i think your using norman coif open neck any way if i were a warior i tray to hit you in a neck close that neck !!!!!!!!!!

  • Your right, I noticed that as soon as I looked in the mirror, I'm so lazy though.

  • what is the wire u used?

  • 12 guage galvanized balier wire.

  • really cool, man

  • lets see you modle a few of your bikinis

  • Patience.

  • jesus!!!!!!!! 12 gauge wire!!!! man i use like 14 to 16 gauge and sometimes 14 gauge aluminum wire....anyway nice man

  • dang your lucky..... i always have barbarian hordes come at me so i need the quilted stuff XD!!!

  • For full fledged hordes, qulited is quite enough, you must FLEE!

  • I am aware that the correct position for the rings to be facing is horizontally so the rings overlap each other, but for the sleeves since they go down your arms, does that still apply to the sleeves? I am wondering because I am not sure if I should keep the pattern going with the chest and back or flip it so it goes horizontally down my arms.

  • For me anyway, it's all personal prefrence. One direction causes the wieght of the rings to actually stretch the pattern, causing you to need less to complete it. The other direction means you will have a tighter and slimmer fit, but takes more rings. No matter what way you choose though, take good care when making the armpits, the steel will pinch up if you keep the patter, you might have too change the pattern leading off the torso to eliminate them.

  • hey dude im doing my chainmali but i dont know in witch direction it goes ,and how long did it take to you to make one of these ??

  • This one took me 300 hours, but it was my first project, and I'm certain I could do it in half the time now. For the torso, the direction should be that if you were holding a section 1-2 rings thick (Like a chain) vertically, it should stretch out. This will cause the metal to almost stretch like spandex when the suit is complete, off course it dosen't really stretch, but it will conform to the body. If you use the other direction, it will just hang from the shoulders.

  • haha i love this vid

    your great

    very funny

    and i like you flag

  • I pledge alleigence....

  • yea the real way to say coif is (Quaaf) thats how it is suposed to sound, ppl can get real itchy about it too. i like just calling it a hat tho

  • Thank you Jesus! That has bugged me for you don't know how long!

  • Are those mangas in the background?

  • Most likely, and if they're not, they're Anime DVDS.

  • i love how you put it, "people are basically pussies" haha thats true

  • i need to find a good dowel and a drill...fellow mailers!!! :D

  • heey, first of all nice mail you did a great job making that coif (stil working on that)

    I'm making a hauberk too.

But the diameter of my rings is 11.3 mm is that a problem?(im working on the arms and already did the chest part so if i have to start all over again thats bad.lol.

  • I don't think that would be a problem it would all depend on weather or not your using a 4in1 or a 6in1, or 8in1, but if your pattern seems to work well in a small section, then it should work out fine overall, except perhaps the armpits. You could drastically change your design to make it fit perfect there, but I found that simple removing around 4 rings works just as fine.

  • off the rials in phnom penh. amit gilboa. mentions chainmail

  • HAHAHAHAHAHAH!!! cool.

  • hehe...looks like you did 8-2 :P

and yes you are saying it wron :P but who cares people get the idea ^^

  • Please tell me to say it, it nags at me all the time!

  • Yes! Gloves are a pain in the ass! But they look cool as shit and you can punch somoene without hurting yourself lol

  • waaaaaaa that is soooo cool...but tell me, how can u do gloves?and dont they slide of ur hands when u weare them?or is some kind of leather strings holding them to the arms? btw can u show me how to do them?

  • I've never really grasped gloves, but then again I haven't really tried too hard. So, I'm the wrong guy to aks about that.

  • DO you have chain mail legs?

  • No, and the only reason that I don't, is that the weight would be far too heavy to support with a mere belt. For best results for covering the legs, would be to make a ankle length hauderk, which is the same as mine, except that on both sides the maille would reach to the knees, so it would kind of look like a dress.

  • Ya, but if you wanted to could you rig up some kind of over alls thing?

  • True good point. I though about leather, but then I could figure out how to sew the rings into such a hard material. But yeah your right haha, overalls would be great.

  • Oh my God! Have you ever heard about special clothes under chainmail? LOL a chainmail on the T-shirt... Damn... you made me laugh :-) And it's not hard to make chaingloves :-) See ya.

  • Hey there, fellow mailler here. I agree with you about making a hauberk first, that was my first real project as well. Then again, it's for a graduation project, so what can you do eh? My next project is going to be a scale vest. Anyway, I was just wondering what the diameter of one of your rings is. They look a bit large compared to the shirt that I built.

  • I used a 1/4 inch dowel for the rings so they should be about that on the inside of the ring, but for the outside... maybe 3mm more.

  • Did you say you've 'fought' in your maille hauberk. Where and how? Are you in a group of some kind?

  • Yes I have, and I don't belong to any group. I simply go into my back yard and let my friend try to best me. Although since I've had both Fencing and Kendo lessons, they find it very hard.

  • Oh really....What do you fight with? Have you any interest in trying your hand at what we are doing? With fencing and/or kendo experience you're likely to pick it up quickly. We also do Liberi and Talhoffer's 15th C. longsword treatises, besides Viking period.

  • First, I often use my Gladius clone, because I like the efficient stabbing motion, and second, hell yeah I'd be interested. Although, I must claim ingnorance as too what Liberi and Talhoffer refers too. I'm assuming it's the method of fighting on foot with either one or two hands with the longsword, but without a shield? Hit me back, and hopefully I'd have figured out what that is exactly with this dang fangled interet thingy.

  • wut that thing be bullet proof ?

  • Actually kinda, I've shot my cannon at it with golf balls. But an actual bullet would go through, the rings arn't riveted or welded, they are only butted up together. They are however very strong rings, you can't bend them with your bare hands, you have too use plyers.
