Foreclosures are already up 25% for 2009 compared to 2008 and its going to get worse. Not having an income tax is nice but the astronomical property taxes absolutely hammer people who lose their jobs and are expected to come up with $4000 in taxes a year for a modest house.

If anything, we're more concerned about our outdated highway system for a city that's growing very fast.

Cutting things like services for handicapped children. How does Rick Perry sleep at night doing shit like this? Austin foreclosures are up over 25% from 2009. Maybe theres a lesson in this, we're all in this together, and dont laugh at your neighbors burning house when your own house is on fire.

@Silvertrine Texas and Austin more specifically are one of the most recessive resistant areas in the country. Austin was voted by forbes as the number 1 city to start a small business in the USA. While I agree with you that Perry is a terrible governor ( lack of ethics) as well as that we are in this together, you need to get your facts straight and look at a financial map the wall street journal put out in sept 2010. California is 17.9bil in debt while Texas is at 4.6bil. I can send u the link.

@WestCoastMethod Austin as the capital is heavily reliant on State government jobs for its stability. With a 20% cut in State funding coming its going to struggle unfortunately. Foreclosures are already up 25% for 2009 compared to 2008 and its going to get worse. Not having an income tax is nice but the astronomical property taxes absolutely hammer people who lose their jobs and are expected to come up with $4000 in taxes a year for a modest house.

Not only is the 18billion dollar deficit in Texas speculative at best, you're incorrect about the Texas state budget. By constitutional mandate, Texas operates under budgets set for two-year periods. LOOK IT UP. Yea Taxes are a bit high here but The city puts it to good use and our parks and downtown are a testament to it. California has neighborhoods with stagnating pools due to so much forclosure

@Silvertrine Austin has been consistently voted in the best top 5 large American cities to live in. Besides the capital, we have more live music per capita than any other city except NYC. We have UT as well as a large tech industry. We were also voted best for employment and best city for singles in the USA. Our neighborhoods aren't nearly half empty like Michgan or Cali. If anything, we're more concerned about our outdated highway system for a city that's growing very fast.

The budget deficit is as high as California however and the foreclosures in suburbs like Cedar Park and Hutto are hitting 1 in 50 levels in a months time. I predict Austin is going to have 5 years of struggles. Dropping home prices, unemployment, budget issues, etc. You say everything is going to be rosy. We differ I guess we'll both sit back and see what happens.

I know,, though with time - prices could start getting lower with this meteorite. Also be aware of some scam artists on ebay selling fake rocks (or "meteor-wrongs") passing them off as "West Texas/Ash Creek" meteorites... I recommend you check the seller is a member of the IMCA - to assure the specimen you're getting is authentic.

Wow, I saw one just like this yesterday. It was close becouse it was a rainy day, and it came true the sky and disappeared in the horizon. It was so fast that I only saw it for like 2 seconds or less. Took me like 3min before I realized what I had seen, it was 6 other witnesses from different parts of my area that saw it too! Prob more, becouse I didn't contact anyone about it. But they did. So I had to search for fireball on the web to see if I could find a video or some writing about it.
