nice video its good it can help I think therapy is a good start and its also good to have good friends. My gf is a trans and she is awsome. I am a scot myself.
i don't think it was intended that way, i think it was laci speaking from the perspective of someone with an eating and/or body image disorder who sees herself as overweight even when being small
Great video. I have a mental illness, am often intoxicated and sleep deprived & my Dad has Alzheimers so I might be suffering from early onset. So that's me screwed!!!! Tasteless jokes aside, I know who I am after years of struggle and NO ONE is stopping me from becoming the woman I am. And my therapist agrees with me!!!
I think the problem that many in the community have with the SOC is the lack of training of therapists. We are the ultimate consumer and if we find a therapist that will not work with us, guide us but ultimately let us make the final decision we need to find another therapist. When I had my surgery at least half of the girls there thought that having surgery would solve all their problems. That is a fallacy and that is what therapy gives you. If you don't like your therapist .. get a new one.
It looks as if my comment got deleted which is just as well. I should reserve comment until I watch the video.
I have one complaint. Laci seems to have a habit of cutting Meghan off in mid-sentence unless you girls are working from a script and the interruptions are planned.
I sent you a private email :) Laci and I have a dynamic on camera that seems to work well for us. Off camera I interrupt her and often beat her about the neck and head, that's if I even let her come out of her room :)
Of course I'm kidding, but we have a chemistry going :)
PART 1 : Hello Laci and Meghan. After watching many of your videos, I just wanted to let you know that you are providing a valuable service for many people considering transition. Sharing your experiences will help many people. For the record, i am a medical doctor on the east coast. unfortunately, I never had the courage to come out declare my true gender. I suppressed my femininity, got married, had children and silently suffer inside.
PART 2: I am so proud (and envious) of what you've achieved. However, Please don't discourage the three month evaluation. I agree that the therapist should not act as a gatekeeper. He/she should provide support and assist the "transition candidate " in making an "informed decision. " After all, 3 months is not that long. I have been thinking about it for 49 years.
I'm a very independent person, and I have always been good at solving my own issues. I do understand that some people may need therapy, but I don't. I've made peace with myself about being trans, I have no issues accepting it.
I say, make therapy optional. If needed, it's there, but don't stop those of us who have our s*** together from doing what we need to do. I had my hormones within a month after walking into my local LGBT clinic, and that's the way it should be everywhere, IMO.
I agree to a degree with what you are saying laci but just looking at some of the trans women I have seen on youtube I think a little psycological screening is useful. Though you two seem to have your heads together I have seen women that were in need of some help.
Hi megan and laci,I havent seen you both for a while.informed consent is ok but Im not sure about HO.I think counseling could be ok but not to be dogged down by mental health conformity that is blinding transition,I desperately need to trust people and that takes time.lol tamsin
I think informed consent is the way to go but a therapist should help you not block your path. Old school thinking is that the mental healthcare professional makes the decision. I absolutely hate that. It's my life and my decision and they can help me or get out of the way.
Having said that, my therapist makes me look into the mirror and take stock of my situation. Like many a transsexual I have my set of problems. Where necessary and possible I will remedy those problems before taking hormones

ITA that therapy is a good idea for everyone, but that it's ridiculous to demand it as a prerequisite.
I'm a little concerned about the fat-ism around 4:50.

BTW excellent work both of you... I don't fully agree but your comments are very well reasoned and the debate is important.
