Hey nice I am glad someone saw themselves in my video. That photo with the extreme zoom pre-race with me under start I found on Flickr of myself (courtesy of QCRunner). It was a great day to race on Sunday.
I think she was more stressed about getting stuck in race traffic and missing me for most of the race this year. I know she is proud of my achievements though. Thanks for watching, Angie!
Thank you! I hope everyone can achieve that feeling of what happens when you train hard for something for months and when the time comes everything just works out great.
1 mile is definitely more than I could do when I first started. It just grow from there though and not ever believing I couldn't do it or I hit my limit. Thanks!
It would have been my bro's birthday, and Johnny Cash was definitely his favorite singer. My favorite song of his to run to is God's going to cut you down, so those songs were in honor of him.
Thanks, and I look forward to my next one in just two and half weeks... (I am personally still amazed that I run these things too.)
Congrats Kent! I was at the race because my father ran the full marathon. I was hanging out by a band playing in the district of Rock Island. It seemed like a great turnout and I hear the broke the previous attendance records.
The half guys never made it to Rock Island as we went over the RR bridge to arsenal Island. I hope your dad did well because the weather was simply fantastic.
Yeah he actually did do pretty well. It was his first marathon and he is 52 so I am very proud of him. He made one major mistake though. He wore new shoes for the race and by the end his toes were black and blue. They were the same brand and style he always uses just not broken in.
I know some people who take Ambien or other sleeping pills just for the night before. I haven't gotten that bad yet, but I have been sorely tempted at times. I keep reliving that Seinfeld episode in my head even though I have set the room alarm and have a wake up call.
It didn't help matters that I was on a movie set from 2am - 6am the prior night as a medic for stuntmen, so my sleep cycle was already messed up.
It's aggressive, but I would go back to what you ate in that 2 weeks. If you ate reasonable amount of food, didn't starve yourself, ate your 2-3 cups of vegetables per day, and still lost 25 pounds you are golden.
Like I told my HS daughter just start with a 2 min : 1 min run walk system and progress from there. She progressed to running a 7 miles race with me last year. At that point, it's just a small leap of training to running halfs, which are really the best distance race to do.

That's the good thing about runners -- there's always another race coming up shortly (2.5 weeks in my case)... I appreciate the effort and the CDs.

Thanks! It was a glorious day to be out there, and I dedicated the run to my brother -- it would have been his birthday.
