@JerridPayne At the time I was learning that song I think I spent entire days only taking bathroom and meal breaks. Normally I play a couple hours a day.
I can get them to sound really good through my Vetta II but I go through batteries so quickly it's ridiculous. I'm just too lazy to replace batteries so I'll probably swap them out with some bareknuckles or lundgrens.
I bought the guitar off of ebay and these were the pickups that were in it. Other than volume and tone there's a coil tap that doesn't work with the pickups.
What? I've been playing for nearly 2 years now and at the time I recorded this video it was a year and a half. If I were this good at 5 months in I'd drop out of school.
Well, if you haven't bought one already and if you have patience to fix the problem (I don't), I have a sort of malfunctioning Vetta I'll sell you real cheap, lol. It powers up and plays just fine etc., but after 30 minutes to an hour in it freezes up when you go to change patches for some reason. I haven't bothered to contact Line 6 as I have better gear already and don't ever think about the amp and it's just collecting dust. You can tell me to piss off as well, I'll understand ;-D
However that wasn't the main question I had for you, I just saw that comment down there;-) Did you buy that Carvin used? If so, that's an INSANE price! I also wanted to say your a natural. I've been playing for about 12 years or so and I sucked bad for at least the first 4 of those, lol. Oh yeah, now that I think about it- if you rolled your eyes at my Vetta offer, I do have the long floorboard that's in excellent condition and works perfect. It's just one more thing taking up space here.
I did buy it used. My dad was looking at guitars one day and he came across it. I wasn't going to pass up the opportunity. I finally managed to get a fully functioning Vetta II HD with a short board. How much would you sell the long board for? I wouldn't mind having one instead of the short board. Also, thanks for the kind words. I think my future videos will be a bit better now that I'm more comfortable playing in front of people/cameras.
Hey man, I just got back on here and saw your comment. I got the board out of storage to look it over and it has a few minor scuff areas on it, all of which are small- nothing serious or nasty. I just want you to know about it before I said anything further. I'll send you some pics if you like. It still functions perfectly, all buttons work fine and the expression pedals feel really good and brand new. $225 sound fair?
Actually, my friend is interested in the Vetta. He wants to know how much you want for it. The malfunction isn't a problem for him because he doesn't intend to play shows with it.
Funny thing... I was telling someone today about me offering you my amp and they said they might be interested in it. They offered me $450 for it which is more than I planned on starting it out at on ebay. If my friend decides not take it, tell your friend I won't go any higher than $325- $350. I figure that's considerably reasonable especially if he can sort out the software problem- then it's a steal. It'll still be cheaper than getting some used spider II and he'll be able to afford a cab ;-P
My friend is interested if your friend doesn't take it. I think I'll stick to the short board, I've still got to buy a cab and I can't be worrying about a few extra buttons.
Excellent playing:] Especially for someone who's been playing for the amount of time you have. Lol probably better then I am now;] I couldn't tell because of the angle but was that the Planetary Duality T-shirt?
I don't doubt that for a second. I have the same feelings torwards my TBDM shirt. Have you thought of covering any Faceless since you seem to be so fond of them?
Often times I just don't have the patience to sit down and learn one of their songs. I'd most likely cover An Autopsy. No effects needed there and it's a pretty easy song to play.
I actually know how to play An Autopsy but I have trouble stringing together a few of the runs. Also when the pinch harmonics come in I personally find it difficult. Probably one of the easiest out of all The Faceless solos though:] IMO their easiest song overall is Leica if you can do the fast run at the end:> Do you know much about guitars?
I really liked the first one actually:] I found it to be very consistent. The only problem I had with Planetary Duality was the whole alien thing:P Otherwise the albums the shit. Xenochrist and Legion of the Serpent are two of my faves by The Faceless. I guess my question was a bit vague though huh??
Uhmm like guitar parts and gear. I'm thinking about purchasing a new guitar....
The alien thing bothers you? I don't even pay attention to lyrics much less the concept of an album. It's just the music I care about.
I may be able to make a recommendation based on your budget. I've played quite a few guitars and brands I haven't touched I've heard plenty about from friends.
Lol not the alien thing but the actual "Planetary Duality" song where the dude's talking about aliens:P Otherwise I'm usually the same way where I just pay attention to the instrumental portion of the music. Uhmmm I can spend up to about 1800 dollars probably... I want a guitar with 24 frets, a double locking trem, and a floating trem set up:] I was looking at guitars and I saw the Washburn WM 526 which is what Michael Keene plays. I was also looking at the Ibanez S 5470 prestige. Suggestions??
You can never go wrong with Ibanez. I've an RG series from 1987 (the first year they were run) and the neck is so fast that I refrain from playing it often so I don't put holes through by standers. Washburns are made with much nicer woods and would be much more pleasing aesthetically. They also come stock with EMGs which are pretty beastly pickups. I'd go Washburn if you can try one and get a feel for the neck to see if you like it. You should also look into Carvin guitars.
You get a ton of guitar for the money with Carvin. I paid $715 for the Carvin I'm using in this video and it has nice woods (gotta love the ebony fingerboard and flame top), awesome finish, very nice active pickups (seymour duncna blackouts), 7 strings, floating trem with sperzel tuners, and it's neck through. Look into those for sure, you may save a bunch of money that you can spend on other toys.
Well I might stick with Ibanez because it's SO MUCH EASIER to find dealers around where I live ya know?? I'm pretty much in love with the WM 526 but I've heard bad stories about Washburn:/ besides that It's really hard to find a dealer around where I live. I'm not to familiar with Carvin so I'll be sure to check it out:]] Thanks for all your help:D Are you planning to put out any more covers anytime soon??
I really like this Carvin. Picked it up for $715 on ebay. Tons of guitar for the money. Look for a DC727 or a DC747, very nice guitars. Not everybody has that kind of money to blow though. I don't have to pay any bills or anything just yet so I'm spending all that I can on gear.
If you're on a budget I'd recommend something like the Schecter Omen. Schecter makes some awesome stuff for metal.
I was playing a Hellraiser in a Guitar Center through a 150watt Line 6 Spider 3 with a 4x12 cab. I found a Meshuggah preset which was stunningly accurate and went to town with it. I tuned it down to F and started playing some songs from Nothing.
What do you play through in your videos? I'm stuck with this guitarport for a few years before I can invest in a good head and some cabs.
Depends on what I'm playing, but for metal, I hook my guitar to my effects pedal, my pedal to my amp (Line 6 Spider III 15W), and my amp directly to the audio in on my laptop.
I actually keep the overdrive off on the amp and do amp and cab simulation, compression and noise gate directly on the effects pedal. I can do any extra post-processing in GarageBand, but that usually isn't much. The entire setup cost me less than $250, not counting the actual instrument.
Cheap setups ftw. My guitarport is $100 and I just plug my computer speakers into it and that is my amp. No pedals or anything. I get my sound from the software included. I did borrow my dad's Wah pedal for this video though.
My goal is to get a Line 6 Vetta II HD. Both Meshuggah and The Faceless use it and it sounds great. My guitar teacher raves quite a lot about his as well. I'll have to get a job when I turn 16 and get to saving.
Hehe. I know exactly what you´re talking about. I loved my Carvin so much I ordered another one of the same model, with different specs of course. I´ve also ordered a neck to replace the one I have in my strat which I have never really liked. ^^,
You can do that? That's awesome. I should order a neck for my squier. Then modify so I can fit some EMGs or something inside. I'll make it the most expensive $100 guitar ever. :D
heyy, nick told me to watch this... you are pretty good from what i can hear, but i can't really tell if ur playing or not :P he says you are :] rock on <3
I have the tendency to blend in with the recording I'm playing over regardless of how quiet it is in relation to my guitar. Oh well, thanks for the kind words.
It would make for a pretty boring video then. It's much better with the song underneath. I think I did a good job if you can't hear me, that means I didn't screw up too horribly. :D
@JerridPayne Just tabs. I couldn't find one for this song so I just did it by ear.

that guitar has a big pair of balls with those blackouts...how does that 7 string neck feel?
COBDeereGUY 2 years ago
It feels just fine. I find that it feels a lot better than the schecter 7 strings which are more like baseball bats than they are guitars.
