it is so depressing seeing these awesome videos of the everyday life of the milwaukee and looking at what it looks like today: hyak substasion is gone, bridge at beverly is desolent, ect ect. i miss the milwaukee and i say that with a heavy heart.
I grew up with the Milwaukee Road in Wisconsin and always dreamed of getting out west to see her out there. I never did. It was a great railroad that would be here today if it weren't for pathetic management.
About 10 years ago my brother and I, who then lived in Mattawa, went to Beverly, ignored the No Tresspassing signs and walked across the Beverly Bidge. Where the Boxcabs once followed the double iron.

I bet if you live there it will be depressing. This railway was truly great.Transcontinental Rail Electrification has yet to become a reality in the USA again sadly due to political constraints sadly rather than economics.
Very nice video! It was also very interesting to see a video of the very last run of the Olympian Hiawatha. Somehow sad. I really wonder why that beautiful train diappeared so early. Was there already so much automobile traffic in the late 50s/early 60s?
Thank you for shairing

I guess the air traffic rather than cars were the death knell to rail. High Speed Rail is the Nemesis of Air travel. May HSR take over:-)))
