There are some serious flaws in this technique. When you first initiate this technique the shooter has 3 options that he can perform easily. 1. shoot you. 2. step back and pull away at 0:36 and shoot you. 3. combination, also at 0:36 pull away, butt stroke you, and then of course shoot you. Best advice I can give any one. Dont fight an armed suspect with your bare hands unless you know with out a doubt that you are going to die. In that case give em hell.
If I gained control of the gun without a hole through my back I would step away. Maybe it should be considered he might not politely lay still for you and he's probably much less likely to sweep your leg if you are 5 feet away. Giving him what he wants might be a good idea.

This is a very effective move when done full speed and the gunman is taken by surprise, however, it is useless against someone with a gun and the knowledge that guns are distaqnce weapons. Why would any gunman put a gun to your head or back or any part of your body? I say again, guns are DISTANCE weapons.

@tech54delta I don't know man that looks a lot like what Krav Maga guys do and if someone is going to kill you and has possibly killed others, it's always better to try. You also have to understand that it's not a race between a turn and a trigger pull, it's a race between a turn and someone realizing you're trying to fight back, choosing whether to step away or shoot, and then finally pulling the trigger. I think this strategy is a lot better than nothing.

The best defense against a gun is usually a gun. The move and redirect portion is good but after that it's rubbish. I would have gone the other direction, redirecting with my left hand (I'm right handed) while simultaniously stepping to the side and drawing my Sig 9mm. I think the rest is pretty obvious...

This was promising until he explained the take away... kneeing him at that point puts you at great risk of kneeing the firearm, not good if the firearm is crappy and will hurt your knee at various degrees depending on the stock of the butt of the gun.
Research long gun/rifle disarm from Krav Maga martial art, it begins similarly, but ends matters in a much more effective, SAFER way.

Great technique, but not easy to do. "Hooking" the gun with your arm doesn't seem that plausible to me. Basically, do the very first step of this, because that's good, and then just unleash on his face and try to get the gun away from him. You can't plan too far into something like this.

Yes, I have practiced this with airsoft and painball guns and its not that hard to turn fast enough. And thats when the gun holder knows what your about to do.

At 033 all the guy now has to do is alter the angle of the gun, by pulling it back a bit and raising it, and your head is off.
At 0:47 hitting the stock of the gun with your knee is only going to ensure lowering your own mobility, as you dislodge your patella on the butt of the gun.

The best defense against a gun is usually a gun. The move and redirect portion is good but after that it's rubbish. I would have gone the other direction, redirecting with my left hand (I'm right handed) while simultaniously stepping to the side and drawing my Sig 9mm. I think the rest is pretty obvious...

Its unlikely that someone with a long barreled weapon is going to go out in public and mug someone. People use concealable weapons so watch out for the pistols and knives. This method seems alright up until 0:36 a method that focus on controlling the weapon first seems safer.

All this takes is a little logic: if the police show up to a man with a gun call and find this numb nuts holding someone at gunpoint with a shotgun, he is REALLY likely to end up being the one shot himself. As has been said, the best defense is ALWAYS to hand over what the assailant wants. This was promising until he explained the take away... kneeing him at that point puts you at great risk of kneeing the firearm, not good if the firearm is crappy and will hurt your knee at various degrees depending on the stock of the butt of the gun.
Research long gun/rifle disarm from Krav Maga martial art, it begins similarly, but ends matters in a much more effective, SAFER way.

you never know, best way to deal with a gun is to be behind its firing line, once u get past that barrel, keep it away from you, i think this will work but u gotta hope they are that close and unsuspecting.
i'd turn to the outside of the person holding the gun, so he doesn't it me with the shotgun butt. and i'd make sure i have a hold of that gun and keepin it faced away from me.

Great technique, but not easy to do. "Hooking" the gun with your arm doesn't seem that plausible to me. Basically, do the very first step of this, because that's good, and then just unleash on his face and try to get the gun away from him. You can't plan too far into something like this.
