bahahaha I actually laughed out loud at how completely bogus this whole story is...I'd be mad but its Fox"news" its not like that ever has any facts in it anyways LOL!
This is complete and utter "bull". It's so stunningly "bull" that I can't wrap my head around it. I can't even listen to this wrohre or Fxo news, I can't even believe a regular American would tolerate this as a kind of "news" source? I'm just, wow, stunned. USA, this is what the world thinks of you -- watch this again! wow.
and yet there is a complete blind eye turned to the 40 MILLION (1/5 Americans) who cant afford health insurance in the USA. makes you wonder how many americans die cause they are fucking poor! but this 1 example from Canada proves why good ol' USA is still number one.
And one more thing, you can pay for it in Canada, there is private health care. quick google search will show you that. come on fox, this is bad even for you
It takes more than one example for our healthcare system to be flawed, more like several thousand. In terms of healthcare attention we Canadians help the very young first with problems and deal with older people like this guy later. Why because he's lived a long life by now and he's stronger than children are. We don't give attention to those with the most money. We give it to those who need and deserve the attention most.
Lets see I'm Canadian I've gone to the hospital many times wait 30 minutes doctors do there job I'm released I get no bill in the mail no legal threats I'm not dishing out ridiculous amounts of money on insurance We don't need to get a second mortgage's for a simple surgical procedure and I don't believe the idiot on the so called phone was from Canada I myself have a heart problem and get the best treatment and medicine without the stress of how i'm going to pay. THE BEST CARE.
"This proves what I've been saying for years" - the irony of trying to "prove" anything with a link from Fox News. A study at Fairleigh Dickinson University showed people who watch no news whatsoever are better informed than people who watch Fox News. Seriously. Use a reputable source next time you attempt to "prove" something.
this video is absurd and glamourized with FOX's tacky over the top style. I completely believe in Canada's health system. It is universal and puts humans on an equal plane, therefore life is not dictated by money. They ask at the end of the segment how many people died because of waitlist, but I ask how many americans suffered because they could not afford health, which is a right that all humans should have.
Canadians think healthcare is free which is not correct. Canadian healthcare is funded through the the tax system. The federal gov't gives money it gets from general revenues(partly from income taxes) then uses a system called Canada Health and Social Transfer to each province. The CHST may come to an end shortly if present conservative ruling party gets its way. Provinces also fund heathcare(more taxes)
In some provinces a yearly payment must be made by each individual or family also.
Oh my God, Fox "news" will try and tell and americans that our healthcare system is like the USSR's because of a single case while poor, old people drop dead in ER's all across the US.
The stupid part about this video if your in the US they will just let you die unless you have the money, the care is no better in the states also thats bullshit Canada dosen't spend 60 % of its budget on healthcare I mean get fucking real how many people die in the US cause they cant get treatment way more then in Canada the system sucks at the moment but at least there's a system healthcare is run by each Province not The federal Goverment like learn your shit b4 u comment u know nothing !
I don't know who you are that posted this vid but you sir, are a liar. If it wasn't for Canadian health care and Canadians themselves, my daughter wouldn't be alive today. America was going to let her die even though I was paying $287 a week for insurance. You must work for an insurance company to spread bs like this.
@hrsqsiest My father had bypass surgery and cost was zero dollars, and he was up the next morning and hes very alive, let me tell you if he was in the US they would have just let him die cause in the states they dont give a flying fuck about people just there money period i feel realy bad for Americans that cant get treatment cause they cant afford it or they loose everything when or if they get sick.
HAHAHAHH America don't be so naive, I am Canadian, and I can tell you that Canadian health care is terrific. As a matter of fact, Canadians have better health care, education and a longer life expectancy. Every single developed nation as this form of health care and if you take a look at what countries are unfortunately failing economically America leads the pack. Yet you keep believing that government run health care is bad. Makes me laugh
@ajcaron17 Your not totaly right there my friend, Im also Canadian I remember when you had to pay in Canada so chill out my friend and the healthcare itself is good but the lack of funding and me waiting for 2 hrs for stitches and this is Canada cost me 688.90 so what would they do if i had not had a credit card so Imagine that ! heatlcare is not free in Canada unless your covered by insurance or your heatlcare plan in the province where u live period
One other thing. The Canadian system is not run by the govt. It is paid for by the govt (with our tax dollars) but the actual health care system is run by doctors nurses etc...
Another prime example of the American political system running on complete lack of facts. As a Canadian (with an unhealthy obsession with American politics) it is absolutely hilarious to listen to all the debates on American politics and the complete lack of any real facts. I pity the American populace as it must be hard to vote for someone when no one campaigns on facts
@Swickity The American political system is full of dangerous, irrisponsible and nonsensical rhetoric, especially the conservative side. Truth is a foreign concept that only exists in a world of unicorns, rainbows and fairies. Lies and disinformation are the standard tools politicians on the conservative side use in order to thrive " a la 'faux news' ".(as we adroit thinkers call it). No government is perfect but I expected better from the US,it is seriously malnourished in COMMON SENSE at times.
The downside of Canadian healthcare is that it is the second most expensive in the world. It's also wildly inefficient, where care is standardized when it should be tailored to each condition. Canada's healthcare system will break over the next twenty years.
@bwhitcomb2011 Actually, Canada ranks around 6th highest in healthcare spending per person. It is also very efficient and care is both standardized and tailored to condition when presenting.
It also has been going for over 4 decades, and although will always need tweeks and improvements, to say it will 'break' is just a wild guess at best.
"America's health care system is second only to Japan, Canada, Sweden, Great Britain, well...all of Europe. But you can thank your lucky stars we don't live in Paraguay!"
in the good ol' USA, medical expenses is a major contributor of bankruptcy. We should seek out the truth, rather than beliving FOX "news" to make our country better.
fact: the US pays the most for health care per capita, but still ranks lower than the industrialized nations and some 3rd world nations. the US should look to France and Canada to model a better health care system.
@markaadamson France is one of the best in the world for sure!! The Scandinavian countries are really, really good for medical as well!! In fact they are adamant that ALL their citizens are taken care of all the time!!! If I didn't live in Canada I would hope that I'd live in Finland or Sweden!! Excellent countries!!! They take care of their own!!
What a silly video. I have never waited long in the hospital, I pay taxes (they're not bad). I had to be airlifted in a helicopter once for a medical emergency as a child. Had I been in the states my parents couldn't have afforded such a thing and I could have died. But, I forgot its Fox news. Any conservative Americans reading this, in Canada we watch Fox, not for the news they provide, but because the blatant stupidity pouring out of the mouths of every reporter is great entertainment for us.
FOX news lies!! Plain and simple! US needs a system like Canada's, but first conservatives in the US need empathy and ethics for others in order to want a federal system of healthcare for all! Greed has infested your country, lobbying has disintegrated your government and propaganda like this will completely destroy it!
Complete BULL!! Been in and out of hospital for serious heart conditions the last year and saved my life with NO waiting and no expense and excellent treatment. This is complete and utter nonsense and complete propaganda!!
Our healthcare isnt free. you just wont loose your house. the only difference is that in canada because it is not a business we promote more healthy living. our hospitals dont want return visits. besides i like american healthcare system better on the fact that your responsible for your own health. people that dont exercise, smoke, drink hard, to stupid to watch what there doing should pay for there own health care.
Yes, we have a waiting list in Canada, but what the waiting list does is treat people evenly and with out prejidice. Just be cause a person is a millionaire, is their surgery more important then mine? Fox news ignored that many people living in the US come to Canada to have surgery and that many wish they were able to be on a waiting list in the US but cannot afford it.
I'd opt to pay more in taxes to further ensure that EVERYONE is able to get quality health care up here in Canada!! I don't want anybody suffering! Not the poor, not the down and out NOBODY!!
This is such nonsense, I'm a 34 year old canadian and i've had several surgeries over the past few years. I have never "waited" an unreasonable amount of time. When I was diagnosed with a brain tumour at the beginning of May 2009, my surgery was scheduled four weeks later. It was postponed once by three days because the surgeon had to perform an emergency procedure on a car accident victim. Totally understandable as our system works on an urgency basis.
@liamlogansydney Your a fuckhead Ive been waiting 2 months to get my heart tested and to get results. It would probably take about 5 hours to do and examine these tests on the spot. I saw a poor lady nearly die waiting for 5 fucking hours in the hospital to get care meanwhile these cunt nurses are joking and laughing in the background. Seriously a trip to the hospital here in Mississauga made me lose faith in humanity.
This is hilarious. My father had his first heart attack at 53 years old, he is now almost 81. He has had a few angiolplasties, 2 bypasses, a knee replacement, hip surgery and a few other procedures. He has to wait ocassionally, but never more than 4-6 weeks. And he paid, let's see, a total of nothing. I had numerous visits with the doctor over the last decade, and luckily only need a specialist once. Took almost a week! I have had MRIs, stress tests, EKGs, etc and never waited more than a week.
Wow, Fox "Republican, Insurance Co" News network. I always thought Journalists would be objective and give their audiences the whole picture. All I see here is the Republican News network. I LIVE IN CANADA, and I love our health care system. Yeah its flawed, but everyone in my country is covered NO MATTER WHAT PREEXISTING CONDITION they have. Fox is no different than the Nazis. Push the party propganda no matter what the truth is.
Y'know, as an American, this might shock me if there wasn't thousands of examples of malpractice in my country for every one in Canada. American Healthcare isn't broken, it's a fucking joke. A cash-and-carry business set up by and for the wealthy. Our taxes pay for roads, bridges, firemen, police, parks, prisons, schools, our armed forces and a bailout for the gamblers on Wall Street, but we can't afford Universal Healthcare. In America, you're better off going to prison if you're sick.
This is Fox News. Need I say more? Canadians live longer than Americans and have a lower infant mortality rate. Also 40% of Americans have no access to health care and the ones that do have to sell their homes to pay the bills. The man on the phone was a well to do business man who does not think he should be treated like everyone else so he took his pompous ass to a place that only respects the mighty dollar and paid to get to the front of the line. He is a mini Mitt.
A reality all to familiar.. So the stupid bitches at Fox news finds One person who had to leave the Country cause he wouldn't wait his fucking turn like the rest of the country. I can pull hundreds of instances off American Websites of people dying due to neglect..
Instead of fighting the Idea of taking care of your American Citizens you'd rather fuck everyone over while doctors and HOMO's (HMO's) get rich.
I'd also rather pay 60% to Healthcare than $600 Billion on War. $100 bil on Jails.
I just read another good point by a Canadian on another site.. Whether your Rich or Poor, everyone is seen equally in the eyes of our Healthcare System..
SHOULD WE BE LIKE YOU?
IS IT ALRIGHT THEN .. THE RICH GET TREATED, THE POOR GET NOTHING...
AMERICAN HEALTH CARE = GREED
You throw your people into the streets and watch them Die..
TO DON ON HERE .. SHAME ON YOU CALLING OUT OUR SYSTEM ON TV..
IF YOU HAD NO MONEY YOU WOULDN'T BE IN THE STATES YOU MOTHER FUCKER!
God Damn Americans are soooo Stupid on Issues they would rather turn their head on. We loose tons of Doctor's to the American system because they're greedy Son's of Bitches. The Specialist numbers are not True. Though it is True that certain specialist are in High demand.
@EHisCanadian - I don't get angry, I find it hilarious the American people want to keep their crappy system in place. I wonder how much "donations" media companies receive from the insurance industry. They pay millions to congress every year.
this video is unbelievable, what sort of closed minded idiot watches this crape, it isn't news it's a lie, unfair biased and plain stupid journalism! the BBC, now that's real news - My God America, just move to your "Communist" neighbour up north.
@logtenbm the poor is covered under medi care. even the illegals get free care. with no id. in usa. a illegal can walk into any hospital in USA with no money and be treated . with no id or contact info how can they be charged any fees.
Thanks to Our Government for Canadian Healthcare. If I was in the U.S. with my medical condition, I would be bankrupt. And I have never heard of anyone dying or going to the states to get care.
Being the responsible journalist that have earned them their reputation, I'm certain they checked their facts. Like speaking to the Canadian doctor who turned this man away, or asking why the gentleman on the phone didn't seek help from a private Canadian doctor. I"m just assuming.
Funny.. My father was taken into the hospital right away when he entered the hospital with his heart condition. Within 2 weeks he was in surgery.
The wait lists she is talking about are more for elective surgeries. Conditions you can live with but may not be overly comfortable with. This show is bullshit.
This is common in Canada. Wait-lists just to see a specialist here in Alberta are 6 six months to 3 years after recommendation from your GP.
It's not propaganda. Our healthcare in Canada is terrible. The only reasons Canadians are so defensive about it is because they see single-payer healthcare as part of our identity and what distinguishes then from Americans. They don't love our healthcare system because it works well. It doesn't.
@michael It's easy to claim that we wait 3 years, yet when nearly 6000 Canadians were polled in a study a few years back, the average wait time for all specialists was 4.2 weeks...including Alberta. Urgent cases are seen earlier if your GP indicates that to the specialist. There are some more highly specialized docs that can have wait times for NON-urgent cases measured in months, but 3 years?? Please.
Improvements are needed but the majority of Canadians believe our system works well.
@MadHabber93 I've never seen the survey you're talking about. My information on the waits come from University of Calgary med student now at Oxford as a Rhodes Scholar.
The only people to routinely measure wait-lists, and who initially drew attention to them, are the Fraser Institute and they claim an increase in waits this last year.
@MadHabber93 I don't deny that for urgent cases, care is rushed. But what is urgent is debatable. As the Supreme Court found in their decision legalising private healthcare in Quebec, Canadians do die on waiting lists.
@michaelcust That Quebec case had to do with a guy waiting for a hip replacement, not a life saving procedure. THe Quebec supreme court can claim people die on wait lists, yet there is no study or reports showing this.
Care is rushed?? Again, opinion. Canadians actually have longer stays in hospital than Americans.
You're missing the point. In their decision legalising private care, the Supreme Court of Canada found that single-payer does result in Canadians dying on waiting lists as a general truth. They weren't referring to the specific case in that comment -- they were using it as a general reason to agree with the complainant that private healthcare should be legal.
And the care is rushed comment meant that access is sped up, not that care offered is hasty.
@michaelcust I didn't miss the point. ANd was the QUebec Supreme court if memory serves me correctly. ANd saying its a general truth means nothing without statistical evidence, which they did not provide.
@MadHabber93 It was the Supreme Court of Canada in Quebec v. Chaoulli. And the finding is significant because the Supreme Court Justices were presented with the best research available.
@michaelcust Wait times for broken hips are done in less than 48 hours. Totally different thing. Just check wait list times on any province, its all right there.
Hip replacement for a bad hip is considered elective.
I am a Canadian, when I had an ingrown nail, a simple plan, they did it within the week. I needed scan, a week. So this American posing as one of us, BULL
it's only the rich people in Canada that don't want to wait in line
the answer is for the Canadian healthcare system be PROPERLY funded instead of buying f35 jets, so that ALL Canadians get healthcare and not just rich ones
Get your facts straight you morons. My brother just had a liver transplant in timely fashion, received excellent health care, and is alive today because of it.My taxes are not nearly as high as fox news lies about ( actually less than what Americans pay ).Socialism? Please. Why aren't you protesting the U.S. postal service, isn't that government run? Oh my God, the commies have landed, grab your guns!
In Canada in 2001 I was told it would take 2 years to get my son in for an endoscopy - a procedure that takes 10 minutes. I took him to the Mayo Clinic one week later and got the endoscopy. We were treated like royalty! Here in Canada, there are signs in hospitals and doctors' offices saying, "Abuse will not be tolerated." At the Mayo Clinic, the signs said, "Please tell us how we can serve you better." We didn't wait for more than 2 minutes for anything. We paid, but we got our money's worth.
@Brdstfff 2 years? What a crock. Most Gastroenterologists have wait times, at worst, a few months for NON-urgent scopes. All of them leave openings for urgent cases with little to no-wait times. I work with them across the country and none have wait times like you claim.
And you got your money's worth, but about the Millions of Americans that can't afford that scope?
Please tell us how we can serve you better....once we get a boat load of your money.
I don't give a flying fuck if you believe me or not. I live in Alberta the province that supports all of Canada so has nothing for itself. Health care here is abysmal.
I don't care about people who can't afford health care. I CAN so I'm out of the lineup and others move ahead.
Saving my son's life was worth every dime of the mere $5,000 it cost to go to a Mayo Clinic. I'd do it again in a heartbeat. I have a savings account for that purpose.
@Brdstfff A savings account??? yeah, what happens when that $5000 procedure cost $500,000. Kiss your saving account, house, lifesytle to the curb. Just like Millions of Americans do every year. Selfish fuck.
And spare me your bullshit Alberta support the rest of the country bullshit. The East supported for decades. I guess its your turn. Of course, without Oil, Alberta has jack shit.
Do not - DO NOT - allow your government to bring in public health care. It's Socialism. It brings everyone down to the lowest common level. You wait in line until you die because the government will only pay for a certain number of tests or procedures per year. If you're one of the ones that puts the rationing over the limit, tough for you. Go away and die is the response you'll get.
If the healthcare system in Canada is so great, why do so many Canadians go to the Us for treatment of serious diseases? Our system is bloated, its better than in the US but its nothing to brag about
@willythewildwino Its a myth that many Canadians go south for care. A myth that will always fester due to anecdotal stories and cherry picked cases. Read the study Phantoms in the Snow which showed that very few of us go to the U.S.
Whatever... We are socialist and we live longer, and are smarter, and our country isn't going down the shitter, and every other country in the western world, (that includes Europe by the way Americans), has socialized healthcare. What's wrong with you America? Think you can rob your citizens of their houses and cars and post-secondary education so they can pay for their dying child's operation? How is that fair? You sick, sadistic fucks.
Lmfao I've been to the hospital for surgery more than 10 times and never have I ever had to wait.. I got to choose the dates of my surgeries.. Why would Fox make this just to bash Canada?
Ask yourself this, if you were a passenger going through a green light and a truck ran a red and t-boned you and you were critically injured, would you rather be treated by a doctor from south africa with such little experience he couldn`t even count the number or spinal lumber vertebra`s ? and when the radiologist report came back questioning a fracture the doctor buried the report and stated no reason for concern/ pain; ? even though you were suffering severe unrelenting pain? yeah Canada's
Universal Health Care is Canada's biggest lie, Tommy Douglas the HERO of medicare, would never have let happen what is happening today; Many Canadians are dying waiting for medical care; THIS IS A FACT; Anyone who tries to tell you different is living in a plastic bubble and cannot understand that our health care is being rationed; People who have paid taxes all their lives are being denied medical care, take a look at medical tourism and see how many Canadians have had to travel for surgery..
Stupid FOX. Yes there are some issues as far as waiting lists but why does the averge Canadian live longer than the average American if Canada's heath care system is so bad? The answer, American health care is build on emergency healthcare while Canada's is preventative healthcare. If the US and Canada learned and practised from each other both countries would have the best of both worlds.
Most people, when asked about the individual tenants of the affordable healthcare act (AKA Obamacare) people agree that they're good things. Like, preventing insurance companies from ditching paying members when they get sick or healthcare industry reform, spending control, repeal of insurance companies' exemption from anti-trust laws etc. Unfortunately most people have been misled and lied to about Obamacare. Search Wiki for this act, you'll see. It's sensible reform.
The Canadian CRTC would never allow such lies. Im Canadian. The way the Canadian health care system works is health issues are prioritized. Heart arithmia's can be managed, maintained, and cared for with drugs, and non-surgical treatment, therefore his "life threatening" condition was prioritized lower then high risk patients. biased propaganda reporting like this would never fly in Canada, but we're communists.. eh?
@trugemini6382 Where do you get your info from? About 40% of our PROVINCIAL taxes go towards healthcare + some transfer payments from the Feds. SOmeone in Ontario making $65 grand/year pays about $4400 in Provincial Income Taxes, so its 40% of that plus maybe another $1000 from the Feds. Canada still spends FAR less per GDP on healthcare yet we cover EVERYONE. Spare us your ignorance and 3rd world crap. We live longer, have better health outcomes and better access to care than Americans.
I grew up before the canadian system was put in...My Dad died (72) still paying for me having pnumonia in the 50's....this report is just crap! My wife got sick, she had strep turned to blood infection she went in oct2010, within a week she was moved to Vancouver's st paul and had open heart surgery with her aorta replaced...our biggest complaint was her AMERICAN employer's health and wage loss plan wouldn't let her rest more than 3 months...THEY were to cheap! You can keep yer crap down there.
In Canada it took 28 doctors almost 2 yrs to diagnose a broken back, even though i provided all info about spinal injury to tailbone, 5 ortho surgeons / 3 neurosurgeons wouldn't investigate;
5+ yrs later i was diagnosed with exactly what i suspected; coccydynia; However, because my injury was a work injury workers comp is in charge of providing treatment for me and they denied the very test which could diagnose the injury;
Jan 2011, wcb denied me requested medical care for spinal injury;
@Winnetka4 I had the same experience at an American Hospital. I had a temp of a 104 and they turned me away, I spent the entire week in my hotel room with such a high temp I don't even remember my stay. I was lucky my mother was with me I would have died otherwise.
@catchlightdame ,,,same thing happened in Victoria BC, were my friend had to go to emergency 7 times until they finally diagnosed him with spinal meningitis, you're lucky you didn't have that because you would be dead;
I love how they always use these examples of people crossing the border to have expensive procedures done in the States as proof that Canadian healthcare sucks. Guess what? Rich people can always jump the queue! Show me a comparison between a working poor family with 3 kids in Canada versus the States and maybe then we'll talk.
And in actual fact, Canadians don't pay that much more in taxes than Americans -- look it up.
Stupid US media propaganda. Trying to scare americans from having a health care system that actually works like Canada. You can tell that lady is an actor she is so fake the way she talks and is trying to instil anger in the viewer. I live in BC Canada and I work in health care as a paramedic and we have top notch health care, we are so lucky to have what we have. We bring people in to the hospital off the street all the time and they get just whatever care they need for free.
I love how they ignore certain facts; like the province he comes from makes a big difference. Some provinces are bad, like this man has faced, others have their shit together. Fox news won't explain that; It cuts into their NWO propaganda message they need to spew. I am fed up with this debate. I don't give a fuck if you don't want our health care. I'm happy with it. And I lived in the USA to make my comparison too btw. You're all gluttons for punishment down there, or you'd change things.
@Jethromcsheepherder I'm an American and I know about FAUX news propaganda. My question is, perhaps you might know: where did the American hospital send the bill to for his treatment? BTW, under the American "system" the insurance company would have waited months to pay off his claim, which means that the hospital would have sued him to get paid and undermined his credit record or worse threatened his financial standing, which is why so many Americans don't have insurance.
I'm with you! I've been insured and lived in the U.S. to make a comparison and I moved back to Canada SOLELY for my health insurance. Canadians shouldn't give a fuck about America's healthcare anymore. If Americans want to keep choking down the fox news propaganda while living broke, sick, and broke because they're sick, I say let 'em...
I get what there saying, but how do they know, they dont live in canada! Canada`s health care is so much cheaper! Ya theres waiting lists, but most people would rather not spend thousands on one treatment or what ever, my moms on a waiting list till febuary cause theres something wrong, shes scared, but she`ll be okay
I have a problem with the arguement is that the complaint about wait times ( Not taking about being put on a list for surgery . I mean like for a seeing a doctor or in the emergency room) because at least in Canada we know that we will get to see a doctor not like in the States where you have to pay before treatement begins.
I am a Canadian and dealing with the system. I personally believe that it is not the waiting list but that there aren`t enought doctors. Most doctors are overworked because of how many patients they have to see.
Insurance companies are a pain but a vast majority of Americans are simply insured through their employer. All of this talk of thousands of dollars out of pocket expenses is nonsense. It's the undesirables that don't work who make up the bulk of the uninsured but they cart out the same old cliche's of crippled children and old people being left out in the cold. Personal responsibility, interstate competition between ins. companies, TORT reform & crackdown on medicare fraud should be tried first.
my use of the canadian health care system? broke arm cost me nothing wife had a tumour mri within a week of suspected finding in the hospital two days later. cost me nothing. father had brain tumor was treated right away lived for 4 years after initial finding cost us nothing. I just made an apointment for a regular check up the pointment is in 2 weeks. all covered. this news program is so biased its not news, just propaganda. but thats FOX
its not a perfect sysstem but I have health care that covers anything I may have go wrong. I don't have to worry about being told my coverage was cancelled or what I have isn't covered.
now lets look at the you have to wait comments. all I have to say is can you imagine finding ut you can't afford to have the surgery because you can't afford the insuarance?
The Canadian system isn't perfect, but I'd still rather be here than in the US. Yes, sometimes you have to wait, but that doesn't mean you don't get the care that you deserve. I rather wait to get treated than not get treated at all because I didn't have the funds and my government was to selfish and greedy to help me
I have to be honest, the Canadian system isn't perfect. From my experience, and please remember this is anecdotal, I have had check ups, immunizations, checks after a car accident, an ECG, stitches and a couple trips to the emergency room for concusions. I am yet to have spent a dime on healthcare. But that being said I understand the problems. I know about the long waiting lists and there are lazy doctors. There neeeds to be some changes to the system but it isn't a broken system.
Americans pay more than $7900 per person for healthcare each year -- far more than any other OECD country -- but still die earlier than their peers in the industrialized world.
Canada $4800 per person. And Canada ranks higher than the U.S in health care.
@Winnetka4 - If you are referring to the Danny Williams
The procedure was/is available in Canada. But Premier Williams is extremely wealthy. Owns property in Florida and can easily afford the out of pocket cost for surgery in the U.S.
His decision was based exclusively on recovery in a warm climate rather than on a lack of hospitals in Canada which perform exactly the same procedure.
@TheInternetWanderer really? I remember this: "It was never an option offered to him to have this procedure done in this province." and "I did not sign away my right to get the best possible health care for myself when I entered politics" Get a fucking clue. Canadian healthcare is fine on average, but no one in the world approaches American doctors.
@Winnetka4 Belinda Stronach went to California for breast reconstruction surgery, ALL cancer treatment and surgery was done at Princess Margaret hospital in Toronto. For Williams, true, he wanted the less evasive mitral valve heart surgery done, which was not available in his small province of only 500,000 people. Just like it wouldn't be available in less populated U.S. centers. It was and is available in major cities across Canada. He went to Miami in mid winter where he owns a condo.
hahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahaha you believe what you want all i know is that i have got instant health care and have got it for free do we pay through the nose not really were not dirt poor like you guys also if your a native you dont have to pay taxes lol where does fox hie these whores
lmao fox news if full of shit and they editorialize everything!!!!
The reality is, what happend to this man, will happen to a very small percentage of the total population. This of course is the lesser of two evils....notice how they mention NO statistics of quality, short-waiting times for non-threatening conditions, etc...they only mention the outliers.....
love all this propoganda BS that American news shows about Canadian healthcare, poking a a country that provides a longer lifespan for its citizens by at least 3 years longer than the average American, 85%+ of Canadian are satisfied with our healthcare, don`t believe the lies of waiting 4-6months to see a specialist etc,if you`ve got a serious disease or whatever you`re seen ad treated right away.Find it arrogant for the American public to criticize another country before looking at yourselves
As a Canadian who has used our healthcare system frequently in the past, the whole "waitlist" idea is false. I have never had to sit in waiting rooms for long periods of time. I have always received prompt and top level care from Canadian doctors. Thanks Fox News for again presenting your distorted and biased fear-mongering "news". I am glad that my bank account does not determine the level of care that I receive from my doctors.
fucking dumb bitch

And one more thing, you can pay for it in Canada, there is private health care. quick google search will show you that. come on fox, this is bad even for you

It takes more than one example for our healthcare system to be flawed, more like several thousand. In terms of healthcare attention we Canadians help the very young first with problems and deal with older people like this guy later. Why because he's lived a long life by now and he's stronger than children are. We don't give attention to those with the most money. We give it to those who need and deserve the attention most.

this video is absurd and glamourized with FOX's tacky over the top style.

Swickity 2 weeks ago

Canada's healthcare system will break over the next twenty years.
bwhitcomb2011 3 weeks ago
@bwhitcomb2011 Actually, Canada ranks around 6th highest in healthcare spending per person. It is also very efficient and care is both standardized and tailored to condition when presenting.
It also has been going for over 4 decades, and although will always need tweeks and improvements, to say it will 'break' is just a wild guess at best.

Funny.. My father was taken into the hospital right away when he entered the hospital with his heart condition. Within 2 weeks he was in surgery.
The wait lists she is talking about are more for elective surgeries. Conditions you can live with but may not be overly comfortable with. This show is bullshit.
andystruth 1 month ago
This is common in Canada. Wait-lists just to see a specialist here in Alberta are 6 six months to 3 years after recommendation from your GP.
It's not propaganda. Our healthcare in Canada is terrible. The only reasons Canadians are so defensive about it is because they see single-payer healthcare as part of our identity and what distinguishes then from Americans. They don't love our healthcare system because it works well. It doesn't.
michaelcust 1 month ago
@michael It's easy to claim that we wait 3 years, yet when nearly 6000 Canadians were polled in a study a few years back, the average wait time for all specialists was 4.2 weeks...including Alberta. Urgent cases are seen earlier if your GP indicates that to the specialist. There are some more highly specialized docs that can have wait times for NON-urgent cases measured in months, but 3 years?? Please.
Improvements are needed but the majority of Canadians believe our system works well.
MadHabber93 1 month ago
@MadHabber93 I've never seen the survey you're talking about. My information on the waits come from University of Calgary med student now at Oxford as a Rhodes Scholar.
The only people to routinely measure wait-lists, and who initially drew attention to them, are the Fraser Institute and they claim an increase in waits this last year.
michaelcust 1 month ago
@michaelcust The survey was done by Stats Canada in 2005.
Fraser is a biased joke. They get their info from a small % of specialists, and even their report is 16 weeks, not 3 years.
And sourcing a 'person' is not a source.
MadHabber93 1 month ago
@MadHabber93 I don't deny that for urgent cases, care is rushed. But what is urgent is debatable. As the Supreme Court found in their decision legalising private healthcare in Quebec, Canadians do die on waiting lists.
michaelcust 1 month ago
@michaelcust That Quebec case had to do with a guy waiting for a hip replacement, not a life saving procedure. THe Quebec supreme court can claim people die on wait lists, yet there is no study or reports showing this.
Care is rushed?? Again, opinion. Canadians actually have longer stays in hospital than Americans.
MadHabber93 1 month ago
You're missing the point. In their decision legalising private care, the Supreme Court of Canada found that single-payer does result in Canadians dying on waiting lists as a general truth. They weren't referring to the specific case in that comment -- they were using it as a general reason to agree with the complainant that private healthcare should be legal.
And the care is rushed comment meant that access is sped up, not that care offered is hasty.
michaelcust 1 month ago
@michaelcust I didn't miss the point. ANd was the QUebec Supreme court if memory serves me correctly. ANd saying its a general truth means nothing without statistical evidence, which they did not provide.
thank you for clarifying the rushed part.
MadHabber93 1 month ago
@MadHabber93 It was the Supreme Court of Canada in Quebec v. Chaoulli. And the finding is significant because the Supreme Court Justices were presented with the best research available.
michaelcust 1 month ago
@michaelcust Regardless of what court, there is no study showing significant number of Canadians die on wait lists. Unless you can provide otherwise.
Do some suffer in some pain, yes, but we aren't dying waiting for hip replacement or other elective procedures.
MadHabber93 1 month ago
@MadHabber93 A hip replacement is not elective. A broken hip reduces life expectancy and waiting compromises your health.
michaelcust 1 month ago
@michaelcust Wait times for broken hips are done in less than 48 hours. Totally different thing. Just check wait list times on any province, its all right there.
Hip replacement for a bad hip is considered elective.

Like, preventing insurance companies from ditching paying members when they get sick or healthcare industry reform, spending control, repeal of insurance companies' exemption from anti-trust laws etc. Unfortunately most people have been misled and lied to about Obamacare.

In Canada it took 28 doctors almost 2 yrs to diagnose a broken back, even though i provided all info about spinal injury to tailbone, 5 ortho surgeons / 3 neurosurgeons wouldn't investigate;
5+ yrs later i was diagnosed with exactly what i suspected; coccydynia; However, because my injury was a work injury workers comp is in charge of providing treatment for me and they denied the very test which could diagnose the injury;
Jan 2011, wcb denied me requested medical care for spinal injury;

If the condition was serious enough he would be given priority at a canadian hospital. This is bullshit.
mattster250 2 months ago
@mattster250 really? I was hit by a car two weeks ago in Montreal and taken to the ER. I waited three hours to see a doctor.
SOP at UCLA is to immediately check for internal bleeding and such. It's not bullshit at all.
Winnetka4 2 months ago
@Winnetka4 I had the same experience at an American Hospital. I had a temp of a 104 and they turned me away, I spent the entire week in my hotel room with such a high temp I don't even remember my stay. I was lucky my mother was with me I would have died otherwise.

@catchlightdame ,,,same thing happened in Victoria BC, were my friend had to go to emergency 7 times until they finally diagnosed him with spinal meningitis, you're lucky you didn't have that because you would be dead;

there are private clinics in canada if you have the cash. so i dont know what they paid this guy to say that theyre not.

I love how they always use these examples of people crossing the border to have expensive procedures done in the States as proof that Canadian healthcare sucks. Guess what? Rich people can always jump the queue! Show me a comparison between a working poor family with 3 kids in Canada versus the States and maybe then we'll talk.
And in actual fact, Canadians don't pay that much more in taxes than Americans -- look it up.
zammmerjammer 2 months ago
Stupid US media propaganda. Trying to scare americans from having a health care system that actually works like Canada. You can tell that lady is an actor she is so fake the way she talks and is trying to instil anger in the viewer. I live in BC Canada and I work in health care as a paramedic and we have top notch health care, we are so lucky to have what we have. We bring people in to the hospital off the street all the time and they get just whatever care they need for free.
foskco87 2 months ago
I love how they ignore certain facts; like the province he comes from makes a big difference. Some provinces are bad, like this man has faced, others have their shit together. Fox news won't explain that; It cuts into their NWO propaganda message they need to spew. I am fed up with this debate. I don't give a fuck if you don't want our health care. I'm happy with it. And I lived in the USA to make my comparison too btw. You're all gluttons for punishment down there, or you'd change things.
Jethromcsheepherder 2 months ago
@Jethromcsheepherder I'm an American and I know about FAUX news propaganda. My question is, perhaps you might know: where did the American hospital send the bill to for his treatment? BTW, under the American "system" the insurance company would have waited months to pay off his claim, which means that the hospital would have sued him to get paid and undermined his credit record or worse threatened his financial standing, which is why so many Americans don't have insurance.
DAngelo136 2 months ago
@Jethromcsheepherder

I mean like for a seeing a doctor or in the emergency room) because at least in Canada we know that we will get to see a doctor not like in the States where you have to pay before treatement begins.
qvicky 2 months ago
I am a Canadian and dealing with the system. I personally believe that it is not the waiting list but that there aren`t enought doctors. Most doctors are overworked because of how many patients they have to see.
qvicky 2 months ago
Insurance companies are a pain but a vast majority of Americans are simply insured through their employer. All of this talk of thousands of dollars out of pocket expenses is nonsense. It's the undesirables that don't work who make up the bulk of the uninsured but they cart out the same old cliche's of crippled children and old people being left out in the cold. Personal responsibility, interstate competition between ins. companies, TORT reform & crackdown on medicare fraud should be tried first.

Did she say that 17 weeks is the mean, and then go on to say thats if you're lucky? clearly has no concept of what the word "mean" refers to.

my use of the canadian health care system? broke arm cost me nothing wife had a tumour mri within a week of suspected finding in the hospital two days later. cost me nothing. father had brain tumor was treated right away lived for 4 years after initial finding cost us nothing. I just made an apointment for a regular check up the pointment is in 2 weeks. all covered. this news program is so biased its not news, just propaganda. but thats FOX
cazyhorseworld 2 months ago
its not a perfect sysstem but I have health care that covers anything I may have go wrong. I don't have to worry about being told my coverage was cancelled or what I have isn't covered.
now lets look at the you have to wait comments. all I have to say is can you imagine finding ut you can't afford to have the surgery because you can't afford the insuarance?
cazyhorseworld 2 months ago
Maybe if the bloodsucking private healthcare system in the states didn't steal away all of our doctors he wouldn't have needed to wait at all.
mexistache760 2 months ago
The Canadian system isn't perfect, but I'd still rather be here than in the US. Yes, sometimes you have to wait, but that doesn't mean you don't get the care that you deserve. I rather wait to get treated than not get treated at all because I didn't have the funds and my government was to selfish and greedy to help me
liamandnoel101 2 months ago
lol 60% to cover the cost of healthcare? Where was this statistic?
VNSki 2 months ago
I have to be honest, the Canadian system isn't perfect. From my experience, and please remember this is anecdotal, I have had check ups, immunizations, checks after a car accident, an ECG, stitches and a couple trips to the emergency room for concusions. I am yet to have spent a dime on healthcare. But that being said I understand the problems. I know about the long waiting lists and there are lazy doctors. There neeeds to be some changes to the system but it isn't a broken system.

bboots100 3 months ago 16
Americans pay more than $7900 per person for healthcare each year -- far more than any other OECD country -- but still die earlier than their peers in the industrialized world.
Canada $4800 per person. And Canada ranks higher than the U.S in health care.
TheInternetWanderer 3 months ago 16
@TheInternetWanderer that's because we have fat people, unfortunately
Winnetka4 2 months ago
@TheInternetWanderer and really, ranks higher? your politicians come here -_-.
Winnetka4 2 months ago
@Winnetka4 - If you are referring to the Danny Williams
The procedure was/is available in Canada. But Premier Williams is extremely wealthy. Owns property in Florida and can easily afford the out of pocket cost for surgery in the U.S.
His decision was based exclusively on recovery in a warm climate rather than on a lack of hospitals in Canada which perform exactly the same procedure.
TheInternetWanderer 2 months ago
@TheInternetWanderer really? I remember this: "It was never an option offered to him to have this procedure done in this province." and "I did not sign away my right to get the best possible health care for myself when I entered politics" Get a fucking clue. Canadian healthcare is fine on average, but no one in the world approaches American doctors.
Winnetka4 2 months ago
@Winnetka4 Belinda Stronach went to California for breast reconstruction surgery, ALL cancer treatment and surgery was done at Princess Margaret hospital in Toronto. For Williams, true, he wanted the less evasive mitral valve heart surgery done, which was not available in his small province of only 500,000 people. Just like it wouldn't be available in less populated U.S. centers. It was and is available in major cities across Canada. He went to Miami in mid winter where he owns a condo.
MadHabber93 2 months ago
@Winnetka4 In addition, the whole 'no one approaches American doctors' is egotistical b.s. at its finest.
