When the baby recovered, the girl reported the baptism to the Vatican. Pius IX was obliged to take the baby and raise him Catholic. The next life is eternal, this one mortal. Pius IX did the right thing. The Jewish parents arrogantly flaunted the law, and paid the just price.

Pius IX, was a disgrace, his treatment of jews, the Moroata case - the kidnapping of children, his chronic stupidity during Vatican I and the near unbelievable corruption of his brother.

@FrankieGardner You don't know his story. He was a wonderful pope, that loved everyone. Please do your research. Pius IX was a true saint!

@emanuele111 FrankieGardner is correct. There are many Popes who deserve beatification, but Pope Pius IX is NOT one of them. He is responsible for the removal of a child from his parents. Pius IX is a flawed Pope, who does not deserve to be venerated.
