  • Man. I wish I could go back to this moment. The 80's were awesome. Btw, I wonder who was videoing this. (:

  • I LOVE THE BERNIE DANCE

  • wow thers one dislike

  • LOVE THIS! Even if the only draw back is the lip syncing. I remember watching this when I was 13. LOVE HER! Thx for uploading

  • 1 person lost Control (of thier bladder).

  • does anyone else notice that her performance pops when she dances with all males?

  • That gave me chills!! I remember watching that when I was 15 years old...lmao. Back then those were some groundbreaking moves and she can still dance her ass off!!

  • YES HONEY !!!!!

  • right here she was miss jackson.

  • i remember watching this video many times when she performed it. great dance moves. paula probably choreographed it.

  • @daveheel Paula didn't choreograph it, Barry Lather did

  • This is when Janet took the world by storm. They breaking up the chairs in the audience. Vintage !

  • i have this on tape, it comes in much more clearer....THE WHOLE SONG IS LIP SYNCED!!!!! PERFORMANCE IS SLIGHTLY AFFECTED BY THIS STATEMENT

  • @1984Chandler so what. Its the 80s! Everybody lip synched then!

  • Classic.

  • go on janet da one and only yung hoes sit down ciara who ride what ho take lessons

  • why are people always naming beyonce among LEGENDS??? beyonce in nowhere near the league of janet jackson and the like. just stop it. smh

  • I have to comment too about Janet's unique style. I grew up in the Victory, Control, Bad and Dangerous era and went to every Janet concert and to all of Michael's starting with Victory-the ones that count (smile), including the Bad Tour.

Janet and Michael really are two different people. This choreography was sick and had Michael gagging. However, Michael really wanted fight Janet (lovingly) when she came out with Rhythm Nation. He wished he had done it. So Janet won fans on her own doing.

  • she is the most influential performer of the century with a string of NUMBER ONES and the most talented dancer of all time( blah blah blah Beyonce and Mariah) because she is Janet Miss Jackson. noone will ever top her and she's done everything anyways and showed off alittle too so what.

  • Janet: If you're not retired yet, Please get back with Jimmy Jan and Terry Lewis...because that's when you really jammed. That munchkin you were with, elevated Mariah (Emancipation of Mimi) but did nothing for your music! Glad you dumped him!

  • @EatinCactus

    I so agree

  • I miss the old days when people used to cheer, scream and shout during award performances. Honestly, now it's like dead silence and an applause at the end. I think the performers now just don't ellicit the same excitement anymore...

  • THE BEST

  • if it was not for michael none of the jackson would be singing so they can say that

  • @k80519. If it wasn't for Janet's talent, she wouldn't be one of the best performers in the world. You told see LaToya Jackson selling out arenas.

  • @k80519 without jo jackson no mj no j5 no janet so your mj stuff is wrong so do researsh before speaking her father stayed her away from acting so leave her alone you should listen knowledge i think

  • excellent, she's the best! i love her, i'm a peruvian Janet fan!

  • They don't make 'em like this anymore, it's just such a damn shame. Wish I could borrow Doc Emment Brown's time machine, load up that flux capacitor with some plutonium and take my ass back to the 1970's & 1980's and stay there FOREVER!

    Long Live 70's Disco & 80's Retro

  • Love those 80's.

  • its so amazing how that woman can still command a stage today.thats a talent that only god can give

  • Epic.

  • greattttttttttttttttttt clipppppppppppp .

  • Rockin it Miss Jackson :D

  • Listen to that crowd!

  • @GJSanti2009 Her crwod is always Like that.....

  • @GJSanti2009 They don't do it like that anymore...

  • Naw...your bitch Fergie peed on stage. Miss Janet will still run circles around all these young up and coming artists. She is "UNFUCKWITABLE", period.

  • Comment removed

  • No, she doen't dance like Michael during the bad tour, she dances like JANET during the Control era...oh look, it was Janet during the Control era! I'm f-ing SICK of MJ fans posting to every Janet video. "Oooh, she's just ike Michael". She's not Michael. She's Janet. Miss Jackson if you're nasty.

  • @bdiab. I ABSOLUTELY love you for saying that!!!! The comparisons to MJ have been getting out of Control. No pun intended.

  • @bdiab ..I agree that Janet dances like herself..but you must not forget her greatest influence which is her big brother Michael. She often got moves from Michael..and that is perfectly ok..she is his loving baby sister...Janet is AWESOME in her own right...

  • @bdiab Thank you!!!! Somebody realizes it and finally said it!!!

  • @bdiab im tired of hearing that too. if you really look at janet and mike's moves over the years, they are really very different. i like MJ, but his dance style didnt vary too much over the years, with updates here and there but basically the same basis and style for all dance moves. whereas janet experimented more and updated with the times more. she dances differently for every album era and incorporates new things each time

  • @bdiab TELL EM!!

  • @bdiab Yup. JANET. To be exact...She did not want to live under the shadow of her brother!!!!

  • @bdiab Nobody's intentionally trying to compare her to Michael. They were very close around 87' when it came to ideas. Michael himself said it. Janet asked for the militant style dancing from MJ when Captain EO came out, so she could do Rhythm Nation. MJ asked her for certain dance styles too. I can see the resemblance to MJ because she asked him for a lot of dance moves and studied his style just like he studied hers. Its not a bad thing and we all know Janet is her own artist so chill. lol

  • @SparklingLovexoxo You're completely missing the point. We all know they're brother and sister and have similarities, blah blah blah. My point was that it's impossible to go to the comment section of one single Janet video without some MJ fan trying to give some or all of the credit to Michael. MJ fans tend to be quite obsessive about this topic. For example, here you are rambling on with the mythical Captain EO/Rhythm Nation story that we've heard a million times! I rest my case.

  • @bdiab LOL How is it mythical? There's video of him saying it and its not a bad thing. I'm not being obsessive over anything! Janet is her own artist by far but in her earlier days she did have a lot of similarites dance wise to Michael! That's a fact. They worked with the same choreographers for a while. I LOVE Janet and I'm just as big a fan of hers as I am Michael's, but I'm stating a point that they did share ideas. Seems like you're the one being obsessive by how defensive you just got. LOL

  • @bdiab Not being obsessive at all. I was noting the impossiblity of finding a Janet video on YouTube that doesn't have an MJ fan comparing or insisting on giving Michael credit. You don't see Janet fans doing the same thing on every Michael video. As far as Captain EO, he claimed it on a home video and Janet's never confirmed it. MJ's claimed a lot of things proven to be false. Why would you reference Captain EO on a video for Control? Another chance to give him credit, of course!

  • @bdiab Thank you! I am also sick of this same thing. It's like it must be physically painful for them to give Janet actual credit for her work. It HAS to be ascribed to MJ's in some way, either through looks, dancing, or musical style.

  • @magicpaint That's here you're wrong. The Beach Boys took a LOT from Chuck Berry's "Sweet Little16" and made a completely new song with all their own style. But aknowledging that it came from Chuck Berry's song doesn't take anything away from "Surfing USA" or the Beach Boys. Rock n Roll took something from the blues. Heavy Metal took something from Rock. And the chain goes on!!!! Giving credit to previous artists would be something Janet as an artist should respect.

  • @Miracle490 Michael himself said that they come up with similar ideas at around the same time, that they think alike (and you see it rub off BOTH of them). That is Michael giving Janet her dues as a creative artist. I'm sorry but the comments I'm attacking are NOT what you're insinuating there. I am attacking mean spirited comments that are designed to hold Michael as the sole inventor and strip Janet of every bit of creativity and identity.Something quite different from what you are saying.

  • @magicpaint I can get behind that. I hate mean spirited comments too. Sounds like you have the right idea. Just make sure you're not jumping to conclusions too fast, so you don't make yourself look mean spirited.

  • @SparklingLovexoxo I agree with you. I think some are being over sensitive. I could've easily said Janet dances just like Michael; meaning that she's every bit as good as he was. I always thought it was messed up how their parents slave drove the boys and denied the girls. The hard fact they need to face is Michael was just more commercial than any of them. And if they worked together, it makes sense he'd get mentioned sometimes. If Janet doesn't get enough credit where should the fault lie?

  • @Miracle490d more commercial...yes...but most talented...definitely!

  • @bdiab She does put a bit of Michael's style in her dancing, but she makes a nice combination of Michael mixed with female artists like Paula Abdul. BUT SHE MAKES IT HER OWN! All artists take bits from other successful artists to create. Not all MJ fans are bad. I like MJ. Most probably meant it as a compliment that came out wrong.

  • @bdiab Hey I'm a MJ fan, but I feel what you're sayin and you are 100% right!

  • @bdiab right on

  • janet u are y girl !! love this CONTROL !!

  • @robyben1980

Not it's not. It is Barry Lather.

  • All they need is a cartoon figure (wolf)...lol

  • Yup those moves scream PAULA ABDUL choreography lol....

  • cool

  • no, paula did the first 4 videos, then barry lather did the pleasure principle and the awards performances.

  • YEAH... i think paula choreographed for Janet during the whole Control era

  • @ajhornes

No she didn't. Barry Lather stepped in and choreographed this and the Grammy Awards routine as well as the "Pleasure Principle" video.

  • Great Post!!

  • What's the name of the white guy (shorter hair)? He was in a couple of her videos and appeared on "Star Search' with three girls as a dance group?

  • I'm so glad Jimmy Jam & Terry Lewis produced her back then because they helped her have an edge on all these female artists & I think it's quite sexy for a female to be dancing with just men! Go JANET!

  • Thank you for posting this.

  • Watching this made realize how many copy- cats, like britney spears and so forth are out there. There's only one Janet!! She's all we got left to look forward to since Michael has left us:(

  • thats what im talkin bout janet aint going nowhere!

  • Stunning then stunning now x

  • Janet is the best and most exciting female performer of all time!!!!

  • lolll i was 3 yrs old when she did this !! I'm 25 now and a pretty big fan. Weird eh? 22 years later ! Great choreography considering it's the late 80's. Wonder if Paula Abdul did it ?

  • I believe Barry Lather choreographed this piece.

  • Really? I believe Paula Abdul was choreographing for Janet around this time. And this choreography looks like Paula's work. But I could be wrong.

  • I'm pretty sure it's Barry because he choreographed Pleasure Principle around this time and this looks like his style.

  • janet is so cool.

  • yes love it thanks for posting.

  • She sure was in control!! If people thought Janet couldn't dance, she showed them that night. One of her best live performances!!

  • Comment removed

  • Oh shxt! This was bad as hell. I was in the Army when she did this, so I couldn't see the performance back then. I didn't realize she was hittin' this hard, though!

  • WOW!!!! I was still in the oven then!!!!

    LOLOL!!!

    I love Janet Jackson!!!! :)

  • This was back in the Paula coreography days. Love you Jan!

  • she is very great !

  • This choreography is pretty good for 1987

  • A great classic Janet performance. That along with her Grammy performance of 87 is two of my favorites!

  • I was only 3 years old when this was shot. I remember that triangular parachute in the background. Classic Janet.

  • I am so glad she did not insult the audience's intelligence by wearing some big obtrusive head mic...like some other female celebs when we know you are lip syncing just come on and out and get down...to me that is a lot more impressive and authentic! I wish Janet and Mariah would let the rap world handle hip hop and return back to what made them originally Iconic and reclaim their fan base we are truly waiting and we need what only they can give I mean at least I do!

  • @rodneyj2 Well sorry to burst your bubble Rodney , but Janet is the first one to use " big obtrusive head mic. " This same year 1987 for her standing ovation receiving performance of "what have you done for me lately" at the Grammy's . See for yourself . The difference being , I don't believe she lip synced.

  • love it

  • The guy in front at 2:16 is now living as woman. I remember him posing for playgirl before the sex change.

  • back when music and dance was fun!!!!!

  • queen of music!

  • i have this recorded on vhs.. i have over 200 vhs tapes full of good music.. yep these were the days when i would actually look at the grammys, ama, etc now i dont even bother with all that junk thats out there, a few groups still got it going on though

  • The Queen had arrived long before there was a Beyonce or a Britney. She will forever be the Queen of Pop music and her crown will never be taken away from her. It's so funny to me when I her people calling, oh yeah what's her name, Beyonce the Queen. That is so da*n funny 2 me, LMAO!

  • She looked amazing and still does!!

  • i love this performance i love janet and i

m tryin my best 2 get every move down

  • Yep, yep, yep! Still holds up! When something is good, it's good! Period! Nothing and no one today even compares to the electrifying performance that this was! She knocked it out da box!!!

  • awesome... you can see which dance steps other groups/performers stole from janet's various routines... (how about that back and forth with the legs that the new kids on the block used for "the right stuff?" hot!)

  • I used to know the routine almost step by step.

    This was an ICONIC performance!

  • It was this performance that turned me into the Janet stan that I am now. Bravo, Janet. You are da shit!!!!

  • This was her phase of "Don't call me Michael's sister!" "I'm Janet!" And we heard loud and clear.

  • Thank you!

  • FINALLY! Thank you 4 the long-awaited posting, best JJ. performance!

The black male dancer got a sex-change, then committed suicide.. True.

  • Wait a minute...what? I knew that I knew him from somewhere. Isn't he the guy the walks past Lisa Bonet in the opening credits of A Different World?

  • That was him! His 'video' modeling credits were endless! He also starred in the following videos: Pebbles' "Mercedes Boy", Atlantic Starr's "One Lover (At A Time)" and Janet's "What Have You Done For Me Lately?" video.. Among countless others! I saw him on an old 'Sally Jessie Raphael' episode after he had a sex-change operation, speaking of his promising career (as a male) which he could no longer permit. I heard he committed suicide shortly after. A great topic for the "Unsung" music series!

  • yep thats him

  • yep

  • Anyone know his name?!..

  • Okay.., his name was Rudy Huston aka "Lana"!

  • i was with him in that sally jessy show lol!i was ashley

  • Ashley, seriously?.. I hope that you're not joking about this, I'd love to see footage of(or hear actual facts about) that 'Sally Jessie' episode that featured Rudy/ Lana?!.. Get back..

  • Comment removed

  • False, Rudy (Lana) is alive and living in L.A.

  • So I've been told.. My deepest apologies to Ms. Lana, I have the deepest admiration for her/ her past work.

    Best wishes/ blessings to her..

  • Um.., is she (now) known as Tanya or Lana?

  • Lana, that was a mistake I deleated.

I'm only basing this on a youtube community help blog that purports to be from "Lana".

I can't verify it being from Rudy but it sounds like "her". I was a friend of hers and am still trying to get in contact. Would you like me to send you the link?

  • Sure, thanks..

I think I came across it a while back.., couldn't tell if it was really her because it didn't have a pic?

  • Nope but he's still alive

Janet KILLED it. I was born in Aug '87 but I still bump my mother's control album and New Jack Seing. I recently came accross called in the heat of the moment by After 7. They have really inspired my music and wish that era could come back.

  • that, she did! one of (if not) my favorite jj. performances, & i've seen alot. lol.

    love the entire 70's-90's era!

  • @ franklinfuentes you were lucky. You had jimmy Jam & Terry Lewis, MJ, Janet, TLC, SWV, Jodeci, Brandy, Monica, Usher (when he was still fine) Paula Hammer, Patti Labelle, Aretha, Skinny Luther, Big Luther... all I had was the spice girls and souljah boy

  • I understand what you're saying. You shouldn't feel that way, though. I loved my generation's music, but I have sooooooooo much love and respect for those who came so many decades before them. I think it's wonderful that you do as well. Never let yourself be limited to what you currently hear and see. Always, always look back to the trailblazers. That's usually where most of the talent is.

  • @beatnik8tv You're crazy!!! LOL! But it's true.

  • @beatnik8tv i love after 7

  • This is my all-time favorite Janet performance (of many)- mainly because it was the first performance that showed the world that Janet was no longer just Michael's little sister.

  • she needs to get back with jimmy jam and terry lewis and quit messing around with these young new producers who aint doing nothing for her carrer

  • thank you thank you thank you!! I haven't seen this in 20 years!!! I used to have this recorded on a vhs that got lost!! I've been searching youtube for years! so thanks for posting this! Janet was the shiznit!!! I was 16 when this aired!!!

  • I have been a Janet fan my entire life but I saw her in concert for the first time last night omg....as good as she is on tv her live performance is even greater she is so talented and has so much stage presence she was just AWESOME!! & beautiful & at 42 yrs old she doesn't miss a beat.

  • I dont think Janet even realizes how great this performance was...its very underated, she let everyone in that auditorioum have it that night...I remember the next day everyone couldn't stop talking about it.

    DAMMIT JANET!

  • dang....JANET BROKE IT DOWN!!!

  • At that time, I thought this dance moves was better than MJ's.. live

  • wow I remembered seeing this LIVE!

yeah thanks for loading, this is great.

  • this is my favorite of all time janet performance i can remember the 1st time i seen it i was going crazy me and my best friend

  • Damn! I forgot how good she used to be back in the day. I love you Janet!

  • janet was the last of the great pop divas. these tramps nowadays, beyonce, rhianna and whoever the else naked ass is on the stage, are nothing more than over paid pole dancers!

  • Ive been trying to find this one for ages!

  • man, speaking of chills, i just got one, as if it were 1987, all over again...this was a main "event" in urban homes, all across the tri-state area and the most talked about performance in hs, back then; what a performance, especially the breakdown...kudos to janet... if janet were a man, she'd be michael! and, if mike were a woman, he'd be janet! i wish today's "entertainers" entertained and performed like this!!!!!!!!

  • This reminds me of when michael jackson did billie jean live for the first time on motown 25

  • I remember this shit. My nephew recorded it and we damn near broke the tape looking at this. We loved us some Janet. We still do. My neph really loves her and just went to her concert in L.A

  • you go janet. this performance made her a super star. and then she performed at the grammy the follwing year or the next month and that performace made her a bigger star. this was janets time.

    she ruled 86/87

  • now that was a great fucking performance! anyone have a better quality of this? thanks for posting.

  • Breath-taking!!!

  • u have to admit, janet had this ish on lock!

  • Yeah, Barry Lather is the choreographer for the is performance, the Grammy's she did in 1987 and The Pleasure Principle. Barry is and still is a bad dude. I was hoping that Janet would pair up with him for something off of DISCIPLINE or even Anthony Thomas(Rhythm Nation) I miss the dances from that era.

  • I love Barry's Work, don't forget he choreographed Shanice Wilson's "Can You Dance" and that video was really HOT!!!!!

Barry also danced as a regular on a show called "Dancing to The Hits" If I can locate any of the shows i will post!!! also i have his live performance of "Love In The 3rd Degree" he Jammed on that!!!!

  • "Dancing To the Hits" had Lorenzo Lamas as the host, anyone recall that. i have a performance of Donna Allen performing Serious from that show if I can find it. its hard to locate old stuff on VHS tapes, that is a hard process to find stuff, but I will try.

  • omg that was my show!!!!! barry, jeff, aurora, eartha.cheryl, andrea and bill. i didnt like prisilla to much!

  • if you are speaking of this HOT CONTROL performance didn't you forget to mention that leading man in The Janet videos "RUDY"? I liked Rudy...I don't care what he changed, he was on point and was very good in his leading roles beside Janet!!!!

  • I SO AGREE BARRY IS THE SHIT! and i really miss those days too!

  • @wannabfamousnow BARRY LATHER IS THE DEAL!

  • THanks for the post, I've been looking for this forever. I remember when she performed this at the awards.

  • Let me make it clear that it was the dude (the choreographer) with the longer curly hair,. so technically as Janet faces us...he was to her left.

  • Thanks for uploading this..Just shows that even up to now Abdul's choreography is still effective and timeless..

  • Ooops sorry that was not Paula's choreography. It was the Causian dude to the right of Janet. Paula's moves were cute, but these moves are hot.

  • So true...plus award shows these days are nowhere as exciting as in the 80s and 90s. Usher, Beyonce, Chris Brown Ciara all try but no one brings it like this!

  • I agree

  • I remember this performance like it was yesterday. She was already a star, that night she became a superstar. I love you Janet!!!

  • I agree hitps101 beyonce and janet are each multi-talented in their own right but beyonce taking this and running with it.....I dunno about that, that's like comparing apples and oranges.

  • I remember watching this in my room when I was 11 years old as my mother cheered her on in the living room. I had chills going all through me. Janet is and always has been amazing!

  • Damn the girl is bad!!!! Werk out Miss Janet!!!! That's wassup!!!!

  • This was Janet's defining moment. It was just as hot as Michael's performance of Billie Jean! THE public was not ready!

  • I have been looking for this performance for years and years. Thank you for posting.

  • thats a bad bitch there, get it Janet! Love this song!

  • THIS WOMAN IS A LEGEND

  • I remember this performance and wanting it to come on DVD.....

I love Janet, she is my favourite Jackson...I do love the entire Jackson family...
