That's part of why they wear lifting belts, to reduce strain not only on their spine but also on their intestines, since their abdominal and back muscles are putting their abdominal cavity under immense compression. More than one power-lifter has been hospitalized with a prolapsed anus.

  • @roxas4620 - powerlifting and bodybuilding are two entirely different disciplines: with bodybuilding, you try the best form possible to build specific muscles, with powerlifting you try to get just get that weight up, which every way you can (within reason). The forms applied in this video are powelifting forms.

  • @kevinshady44 Opens the airways, clears your head, and gives a bit of an adrenaline rush for most people. Everyone is affected a little differently of course.

    Some guys love it for getting psyched up, others just think it stinks, and don't really care for it. To each their own.

  • power lifters for the most part are stronger than bodybuilders, but they still have to be extremely athletic. Also I'm not sure if you have heard of ronnie coleman, but he's the strongest body builder to have been in the sport. He can dead lift and squat over 800lbs and bench over 600, so body builders are still really strong and athletic. Plus they could out last these guys in any type of endurance competition.

  • They're fat because they eat as much as possible to fuel muscle (fast-twitch) growth/strength increase. The fat is gained in the process usually because they don't eat clean - or they just manage to have a constant caloric surplus.

    Not all powerlifters are fat btw; there's quite a few who look chiseled/ripped like pit bulls.

    watch olympic weightlifting videos from the 70's, and compare them with the china 's olympics for example, human body is too weak, sports like soccer or tennis can evolve and the players become better, but that's because they include different techniques and tactics, but just lifting a determinate weight includes few techniques (i'm not underestimating them we all now that you can get gurted if you do) and depends entirely on the human strength which 's got a limit.

  • I'm not so worried about the gear or drugs as much as I am about the depth of some of these squats and "lock outs" of some of these deadlifts. Huge guys. Huge weight. 3 inch high squats. I admire the dedication that these guys have to their sport, but I don't understand the lifting style (and yes, I am an IPF lifter).

  • Well, you gotta realize that they squat sumo. The lowest you can go with that stance is rougly parallel. ANd if you look up the rules of depth at the wpc, thats where they squat to. About 2inches higher than IPF. ANd much easier to judge. I see some high squats being passed, but that also happens in the ipf.

  • I agree. I would not even allow knee wraps. I never use them. They don't do anything accept help you get the weight up. For me its just a belt, high-top and wrist wraps.
