Truth is Tyler Perry hasnt done anything wrong. He has showed woman how to get out of an abusive relationships. I know so many woman that have.been thru everything he has portrayed in all of his movies. And on top of that his mother was once.in an abusive relationship so he is clearly speakin on what he knows for himself...a simple story of his life!
im so mixed up right now. im angry, sad, ashamed, embaressed, used, degrated, and so many more thing when i look at these movies. its crazy how things like this go over our head so easily. im mad as hell. even at barak obama. who the hell told him to go and dance on ellen. goddamn embarrassment
@mytakeonitall2011 That's because a LOT of BW are VICTIMS and VILLAINS. NEWSFLASH, but you can't be an empowered BW if you're blaming BM for ALL of your PROBLEMS. Furthermore, you can't be an empowered BW if you refuse to accept RESPONSIBILITY for the CHOICES you make. I like Tyler Perry's movies and I wish him nothing but continued SUCCESS. If you don't like his movies, don't go see them. End of story.
Tyler Perry's movie are truly sickening.. the sad part is that so many "church folks" support this guy 100% even though they know his movies go against the bible yet so many blindly go after him and will even call him a "man of God"! Yea it is sad how the black male characters in his movies and plays are protrayed. We(my hubby and I) refuse to support any his movies, or plays.
I am not a TP fan.But I see the new position he is now in when it comes to hollywood. What I wonder is if he will take his newfound level of respect and start to change his movies, his topics, and show more diversity when it comes to us as a people. If he continues to do wat he has been doing, when now he has the klout to change it. That would be disappointing to say the least.
Tootsie ( Dustin Hoffman ), Mrs. Doubtfire ( Robin Williams ), those were big movies with leading white males in dresses, so Fail on the illuminati defense. It's comedy, there is not deeper meaning or learning about the dress thing. If it's not your style don't do it, but nobody is trying to destroy the black male with this.
I suggest that you rent some of his plays, where he speaks in the end, and you will see the brotha's REAL intentions! Some of you guys are spoiled, and too damn sensitive, only thinking of yourselves being "picked on", and not thinking about the sistas who go unheard, like Tyler's mother, who was an abused woman ...HOW is he using black women, by creating stories that were inspired by his real life experiences? You guys are just too selfish, I see
Boycott Modern Day Minstrels, Buffoonery and Coonery starting 4/22/2011 (Release date of the third Madea film, just a month after Big Momma's House 3.) Demand diversity and deeper concepts. Establish balance now!!! Help us fight against hegemonic encoding, mass media mind control and stereotypical characterizations.
I don't think Tyler means wrong when he makes these movies. the dichotomy is some black ppl thinks he's right and some think he's wrong. I've seen other races in a dress! Have you seen Too Wong Foo? Ms. Doubtfire? more than Wesley had a dress on. He's just putting ppl on the map. yeah black women go for it but white ppl do the same with, their movies and products.
@shyfly24 the only difference with that is, they know when to stop overdoing it. dressing like a woman. eddie murphy did. tyler perry just making things worse.
@shyfly24 the bible says that a man should not put on a woman's garment and the same goes for the woman! the bible is righI don't care what anyone says, this is the problem with our people: they, always trying to do like others!
Also, why do you say TP is "pimping" black women because he makes movies that are targeted towards black women? You need to look up the word "pimp" and understand the meaning because "marketing a product toward a particular demographic" does not equal "pimping." If that were true then you could say that people who make action movies are pimping men. People who make cartoons are pimping children (or their parents). You should come up with a more appropriate term...
@jazizam Thanks for the feedback. My views about his subject have since changed a great deal. But people have given this video a lot of heat. I'm just not putting forth the effort of doing a response video.
This discussion in the video is poorly articulated and poorly researched. I'm not a big fan of TP but it's not true that he does not have strong black male characters in his movies, as you say. You point out the one abusive husband in Why Did I Get Married but what was so terrible about the other male leads in that movie? Nothing. Also, the Dave Chappelle, actors in dresses issue is so overdone. Unlike Bruce and Leo, most of the black male actors who wear dresses in movies are comedians.
@jazizam "Daddy's Little Girls" had a positive blk man, but Perry don't make many movies with positive BM.
Also Dustin Hoffman in Tootsie and Robin Williams in Mrs. Doubtfire are films where white men dressed as women. Patrick Swayze in Too Wong Foo was another. Denzel or Will never where made to wear dresses.
Truth has its way of revealing the inner soul! In other words truth hurts. Listen 2 urself be4 passing judgement. Get over urself! Just, don't go to the movies. Maybe brothers r not being uplifting...... bcause so many of u r trapped in a crab basket! Tyler Perry broke free! God Bless you!
The Internet is a great tool for people. As a black person, I relish in the fact that I can obtain content that may never be available in my area. This tool is similar to the church/bible of the 1600's to 1800's. I imagine that the greater American construct has always been aware of this and feel that we as blacks should have never had the opportunity to expand our minds and formulate ideas via the bible/church.
Since there is hardly any content: news or media out there from a black males per
That is true he does always put Black MAN down as the wrong ones in the movie.... because he has to, because hes usually playing like a women which to me is no excuse you can be a man and make good movies without being in a dress. I personally believe that that the new age agenda to push this picture of black man to push the homosexual agenda amongst other things......I am a black women and I feel its wrong and True
Ultimately, we can hate on Perry but he is a Business man and he is doing something very few Black men or women have access to do and getting bank, which ultimately is always the goal.
Black men and make them safe, but you are also able to laugh at them like "stage monkeys," thus reversing fear. Again I can go for ever on this analysis. Oh and for the dude that said Tyler Perry don't uplift Black Men, actually that is what majority of what he does. He always depicts a noble, strong, loving, and devoted Black man, despite them being working class.
Of course as a black man, Perry will be receiving hella beef no matter what he does. Your analysis of his films are too basic. Its easy to have a one dimensionally view on race, gender, sexuality, and economic status. I can go for hrs on this but I will say I agree with you about black men having to crossdress. One needs to pay attention that once black men crossdress then they receive fame. It is a white construct because in having Black men crossdress, not only do you emasculate
1st of all he is doing something all white producers do...sell to an audience. Most producers, writers, etc...are White, thus depict White stories, problems, and fairy tales. I mean every White women story (Romantic Comedy) is about a rich, loving, supporting, adventurist, faithful, White man who makes he life better. She don't need him but he comes along and makes things so much better...her prince charming.
It is so typical of another black male to show their envy and jealousy of Tyler Perry by trying to minimize his talent and success. Do you realize that more powerful and influential people than you have tried to keep this man down and have not succeeded. Tyler Perry is single-handedly keeping black actors and actresses working. His stories and movies are full of life lessons - and how to succeed despite the troubles we face. Blacks always keeping other Blacks down. Shame on you.
@mariewilder Before you point the finger at me, think about what you just said: "It is so typical of another black male to show their envy and jealousy of Tyler Perry." -- Its not two black men expressing their opinions (that a lot of people agree with) holding us down. Its regressive and spiteful mindsets like yours. Did your daddy leave you? Anyway, Tyler Perry doesn't care about what we think; he is gonna keep simping his way to the bank. Nonetheless, thanks for the feedback. Have a nice day
@mr41ststreet: Maybe Tyler does have some emotional issues he is dealing with. WE ALL DO! It doesn't take away from the fact that he is single-handedly keeping black actors and actresses working. Have you seen the latest ensemble of beautiful talented black actresses in his latest movie "For Colored Girls"? Perry's movies successfully deal with issues experience by people of color. It saddens me how negative and self-effacing Black people can be. I admire Perry's strength and perseverance
